Dustin Byfuglien would be a good choice. I obviously like TJ, and I think his game would be great in the Olympic setting too.

William and Mary IIRC was the school that had the two feathers. They argued that the feathers weren't even NA in nature, but the NCAA argued that, though that may be, Eagle feathers have NA significance. I'm waiting for the BC Eagles (all other Eagles college teams), the NDSU Bison (and all other teams named Bison), etc. to have to change their names because of their significance to the NAs. The Fighting Ojibwe would be an awesome nickname, one we could keep the colors and the logo (the logo was drawn by an Ojibwe artist). However, it would be a bad PR move to move from one NA nickname to another as it would require getting approval from those tribes as well. The nickname change would not get us off the list. I say still go with Fighting Cavalry or, second best, Predators.

I don't know who I'd replace him with but... I'm not too impressed with Drury. He's really fallen off the map since joining the Rangers. I know he's known to be a leader on the ice and all, but I just don't see him as being anything more than an alternate at best given his current struggles.

Parise gets a pair of goals tonight to snap a 12 game goal-less streak. One is the game winner. Zajac gets an assist in the game as well. Unrelated note: NJD's Andrew Peters gets 1 shift, plays 13 seconds of the game and garners 5 minute major (fighting) and a 10 minute game misconduct. So.... he spends a lot more time in the box than on the ice.

Not sure how you can blend atmospheric science, the Nanooks of the Northlands, and hockey together from my post but... Whoopiedoo on those three. Yeah, they're good but I don't care. They're not on the team. In any case, they're walking all over the weaker teams in the tourney thus far. They look to be a strong team. Not having the schedule in front of me, I'd love to see Canada play Russia before we play Canada just to see what Canada would be like against a tougher opponent before we take them on. I like their players well enough but Hockey Canada politically is no better than USA Hockey (though they claim they are) and their fans are some of the most arrogant sports fans on the face of the known universe.

Hard to find. Perusing through Marc's Collection of High School Mascots and, though it isn't complete at all, all WI high schools referenced are NOT Badgers. I did find some really awful nicknames though. Examples: Blooming Prairie (MN) Awesome Blossums - I hope to hell they're sponsored by Lone Star Steakhouse or whoever... Colorado (Carbondale, CO to be exact) Rocky Mountain Oysters - WOW.... just... WOW. Do they sell mixed nuts called "Deer Nuts" (instead of Beer nuts)... Popsicles called... no, I can't take it there... This explains Custer... their song is an Irish Drinking Song. Oh dear Lord. And I like the Fighting Cavalry. We can be the Cav for short. Everyone will play our ditty at sporting events (Dadada Da duh DAH! CHAAAARGE!) Did we get a charging penalty? We can say that they got "Cav'd" And I understand the color change thing. It would be quite a change, but it would also be a clean separation. We wouldn't have to make a full color change. I know the Cavalry's colors are blue and gold, but why not just modify it to be the same Blue but a white instead? I know I've spoken against Cavalry but only because I abhor giving those whiney activists something more to whine about. Remember: After they win this battle (which they have all but won already), they're going to want to find a new battle to fight. After all, activists without a cause are just meandering crazies. Let them dream one up and let's not just hand them one. I don't know. Even with my doubts, I'd still support Fighting Cavalry.

I didn't think PMB was good enough to play in the NHL. I didn't think Wes Walz was good enough. Veillieux? Heck, there are a ton of players who don't seem to have the skill to be NHLers and there are some I've watched who seemed to have NHL skill and never seem to make it to the NHL (Bochenski). Schroeder will be alright as a pro. I don't think he'll light it up (at least right away) but he's going to be fine. I do disagree with sagard in the fact that Schroeder WILL spend time in the AHL.

Uh.... Custer? The Cavalry, at one point, had free reign to hunt Native Americans. Like I said, since the NA Activists and PC Zealots live in the past, they wouldn't see this as honoring our military. They'd see it as retribution for the loss of the nickname.

Let's not be so short sighted regarding only UND players. Look at Jordan Schroeder. He's flying on the ice (at least what I saw). The WCHA is a second rate organization and it's really getting hard to defend it vs. Major Junior when you know that the quality of hockey really is becoming (or already is) higher than the WCHA thanks to the substandard administration the WCHA has.
