Wow. This is an impressive list. Well, at least now I can say that they aren't token players. That's good to know. Eskimos- It was no lie. I'm looking up the article right now. When I find it, I'll post it.

I would normally agree with this if it wasn't for the articles posted concerning Toews recent "battle" with Tri City. They stated that, should Jon decide to go to UND, chances are his brother wouldn't be sought out as highly as he was and his chances of representing his country in International events like the World Juniors would be put in jeopardy. It's not hard to use that as reinforcement to these "personal opinions and speculation" that everyone, including those throwing stones utilize so often as of late. Anyways, it's nice that Team Canada has an NCAA player on their team. A few good questions to follow up on those nine years are these: 1. Nine years out of how many years (that the WJC has been held)? 2. What was the playing time of that NCAA player during those nine years? I'm not trying to be critical here, I'm honestly curious as to whether or not the player was added to the team because he was a contributor or was he added on to the team because it was felt that he qualified to be on the team as well as qualified to be used as a token to show that Team Canada "Takes the best qualified from anywhere" I admit last year's team was a great team for Team Canada. Who really knows.

You're thinking about why Zajac didn't make last year's team. No, in fact he is too old or will be by the tourney.
-
Here is another article mentioning Greene. There are a few quotes on there, most of the way down. It also seems, though you'd have to read in between the lines a tad, that the Oilers are not very optimistic in regards to Paukovich's chances at making the WJC team.

If he really wanted to play for a one and done, 2006 was when I'd've committed too. If that means Dahl is gone when Jon enters JBSU's hallways, it can only mean good things.

Actually, that would take all of the coverage away from the draft. It will be like "Martin St. Louis goes in for $10,000. By the way the Predators of somewhere just drated this guy." Co host "They are in Nashville, Jim." Co host "Oh yeah, Nashville. Home of the Nashville Stars program. You know, the one that is like American Idol for country music? What a fine program." :vomit: An interesting idea no doubt. I'm sure teams like all of the expansion teams, Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Florida, and the Rangers wouldn't mind it at all.

Hey! Bourque left college for $10.50 and a can of Cheese Whiz as his signing bonus, so I wouldn't doubt it

Good news for SCSU, I guess. It does answer their need for defense. Too bad Ammerman will never get anywhere as long as dumbDahl is in charge.

Only speculation. It is rumored to be a digit with 5 or even 6 other digits following the first.

I think this is already happening. Looke at how Esposito released statements that he is going to go to college. He was either blatently lying or using DI as a bargaining chip/ fallback plan (meaning, if the bargaining chip didn't work, he'd go to college somewhere). It worked and he got big $$$. I don't think Esposito's case will be an isolated one. I think more players will be doing it. And I wouldn't put it past anyone currently committed either. Tri City Americans of the WHL is STILL, last I heard, trying to woo Toews away. Mueller has been committed to UofMinn since he was 2 years old (ok, 5 ) and Everett is still sending flowers every day nearly. With Pineault and Borque being recent defections, I don't even see showing up his first year to be the end of the story either (Toews included). This could be nothing, sure, but we'll have to wait and see.

Not like it really matters.

OH MY GOD! I know this guy! He's a nice guy. Big-arsed Swede from the Twin Cities. Used to live in Swanson Hall one floor above me. We'd go to hockey games and chant lame cheers like "Let's get fired up!" "We are fired up" as a sort of inside joke to start the game. When I was in the lower bowl, he sat about 3 or 4 rows above me in section 108. I can't believe it! I'm calling him up and getting some stuff.

I'm confused. You come on and start accusing other posters here of trying to start trouble and yet you go around and sling mud just the same? I harbor no love to the Gophers, but I respect them. And calling out sagard or Greyeagle isn't going to endear you too much. For gopher fans, they are very well respected posters to this board. I am a realist too, you see. I don't hold the affiliation of their loyalty to preclude what they say. In other words, if sagard says that the grass is green, I'm not going to call him a liar because he's a Gopher fan. The grass really is green... in areas. sagard- To answer your query: No, the Gophers only recruit hacks with limited English vocabulary

Size would have to be important if you were to let Wheeler on the team as well. Then again, everyone only half checks in the WJCs... Wheeler might do fine.
-
You're right. Most of those players in the WCHA have already been drafted or are too old for the draft. I'm not reading much into this article.

I agree with sagard regarding when and if Lucia moves on. At best, being a UMN assistant coach is nothing better than a waiting room for a desperate program to come calling. No way does Hill have a shot at a Gopher head coaching job when and if Lucia leaves. His record doesn't warrant it. His history as a coach doesn't warrant it (remember all the academic junk that happened during his tenure? The textbook sagas and the lockerroom quarrels). NDH- It's no secret you don't like Lucia but one has to question how much he sucks when you look at his win loss record. I wouldn't want him to coach at UND, but there's nothing saying that he can't move on to the NHL. His track record is quite impressive.

According to USCHO (a GOpher homer said this) The money was about the same and the contract looked a lot better length wise. There was talk that John wanted a 2 or 4 year extension to his contract and UAA refused so he walked. It may not be a step down financially or job security wise, but it's not going to advance his career, IMO. I don't know if he'd be the #1 candidate for any head coaching position at the DI level now.
-
Though not as surprising as some might think, I can only wonder what this is going to do to UAA's program. UAA was on an upswing and got some quality recruits during the off season. Now... it's in limbo. Who knows what kind of coach they are going to get now. It's hard getting quality players up at UAA. I can't imagine what it would be like trying to get a top coach up there.

NHL still has a year or two left on their contract with NBC, but that's literally for less than 25 % of the games that ESPN even covered, which isn't much to begin with. So, yes, there is a TV contract still in place, but it's not like it actually is a good one.
