  1. Apparently it now goes on to be voted upon by.... A bunch of basketball coaches. Looks like it will pass, if you ask me.
  2. You know... I'll call myself out on this one. My name is Redwing77, and I'm a Chicago Blackhawks bandwagon fan. I've never really cared that much about the Hawks before Toews went there, despite both my parents being from Chicago and my father witnessing the last Stanley Cup championship Chicago won live (well he claims. I don't recall what the playoff format was back then nor do I know if they Hawks won the Cup at home or away that year). No, I didn't even follow the Hawks when Belfour played there. I admit that, at that time, I wasn't yet into the NHL. I still love my Wings and part of me is conflicted because no self-respecting Wings fan should ever think highly of the Hawks, but I guess I never paid much heed to that. However, ask me to root for the Wild or the Avalanche.... Not gonna happen. Anyways, I admit that I'm a bandwagon fan. There. Whew!
  3. I've been listening in on this whole thing and there's a lot of mixed feelings in Omaha about the move. ESPN radio brings up the fact that several coaches in basketball don't like the 16 team conferences. I don't know any better to be honest. One thing they did bring up and I'm in agreement is this: Despite Mizzou's recent success in football, I think the Big 10 should court KU instead. KU adds more to the conference than Missouri. They're football team has made major strides and is about the level of Missouri's really but what is huge is the addition of the KU basketball team to the Big 10 conference. But I love the whole thing that just now is it news that the NCAA is nothing about athletics or academics. It's just about money. How is that suddenly news when it's been that way for a very long time? The BCS wasn't proof enough? How many more bowl games would have had to be added before people started saying "Hey... is this about football really?"
  4. Thanks. Didn't remember that tidbit.
  5. Would Beebe's ultimatim have had any effect on NEbraska's decision? If Texas had simply asked Nebraska to consider sticking around and doing what it could to help Nebraska make staying in the Big 12 an ideal thing instead of saying "tell us by Friday" and what not, would the outcome have been the same? I wonder.
  6. They're not clowns. They have an agenda. Heh. They'll put it in historical context because after all, their more vocal minority make such a big deal about the past and why they as a people can't succeed because of how bad the white man is yet hold out their hands first for white man money. The agenda is this: "Years back, our forefathers were sold a bunch of empty promises by the evil white man. They jerked us around like we were some two bit rag doll. It is unfortunate that they have not apologized nor given us enough back to move on but that's not the point. The point is that now, even though the scale is almost insignificant to most of the country, we get to jerk around the white man. The shoe is on the other foot, so they say. And what's better is that even if we don't succumb to the wishes of our people and vote, the outcome is still to our liking. There is only the will of the people that can oppose us now and we have the power to ensure that the will is silenced, at least until it is too late." A more evil type of personification for sure, but that about sums it up. And before the anti nicknamers come on and blast me for being racist a few points: 1. I am racist. I'm white and I dare criticize someone who is a different ethnicity that I am. So, by the modern definition, I'm racist. Who cares if I'm right. The term "racist" holds no significance to me any longer. I criticize Obama? I'm doing so because I'm racist. I criticize Native Americans for living too much in the past. I'm racist. Big deal. Talk about desensitized. 2. There is no denying that the US Government wronged the Native American people in the 1800s to mid 1900s (and before). I doubt any educated person would disagree with that. However, mistreating the white man even if it is a minor way makes them no different that those white men that wronged their ancestors. We try to teach our kids to be above the hate. Act in such a way to persevere and overcome adversity. But how do you do that while trying to find ways to get back at the White man? Could you imagine how the Jews would be viewed if we kept on trying to get back at the evil Germans? Would the Neo Nazis be a fringe hate group if we sat there whining and moaning about how the Germans are all pig headed ethnocentric hate mongerers? The problem is that the Native Americans can't elect Tribal Council Members who can see the future without embedding it with the past. The past is like an anchor holding them back and killing their pride while subjugating their dignity. They become the stereotype and that typecasts the silent masses. They call for us to move on but why don't they lead the way?
  7. Does that mean Toews will get rid of that hideous excuse of a playoff beard?
  8. Hmmm... Would he be the first Sioux men's hockey player from Ohio?
  9. Palease. It's Sid THE KID.
  10. I just like the idea of a UAV being called a "Reaper."
  11. I'm pessimistic. I'm betting it will get tabled.
  12. I don't claim to be connected or anything but I have heard about the hockey in Lincoln debate but... Anyone who's been to Omaha or Lincoln knows that this place is Husker Football and Creighton Basketball country. I guess i just don't see it working in Lincoln.
  13. Oh, those count? Ok how's this one: The Chicago Cubs are winners.
  14. Could they arrange Maguire and Milbury to do the commentating? Maybe get Cherry in on the Intermission Reports? Then we can have the Crosby-est time of the year! I'm already penciling in a 2 hour shower during that time. I love hockey and all that, but I hate outdoor games and well, ok, those two teams were good choices as much as I dislike both teams.... Hey, maybe Matt Cooke will hulk smash Mike Green (ending his season) and Alex Ovechkin will Oviecrush some random Pen player (putting him out for a month or two)?
  15. Nope. Crunk meant at first to get "Crazy drunk." Now, it's taken a new definition of a person who gets high and drunk... in other words "Chronic Drunk" Not exactly positive.
  16. This HAS to be Sidney Crosby or Mapletoft!
  17. I'm going to make one clarification: I wasn't trying to take a dig on you GeauxSioux. I just don't find the song amusing or even good.
  18. I love the Crunk song! (end sarcasm) Maybe because it would absolutely positively have ZERO CHANCE of EVER getting air time at the REA? I mean... all you have to do is define the term "crunk" and voila.... the NO vote. But yeah, that's arguably one of the worst songs I've ever heard in my life. Like EPIC SUCK. I definitely could go on with this one. Look up the definition of crunk. There are two. Neither are all that complimentary.
  19. He'll be back against Chicago. In fact, I'd bet on it. I mean, since Carcillo is such a diver and Byfuglien has a reputation like he does... Put two and two together buddy. It's LUGANIS TIME BABY!
  20. What... you don't like chaps and an unfortunate air bubble placement?
  21. It's funny. It's months post game and some of us are STILL fishing for a scapegoat. Fine. So I'll sum it up: Pathetic. Simply Pathetic.
  22. All anyone has to visualize is Danny Carcillo raising the Cup to instantly know that the Hawks MUST win this series. Already Cooke has his name on the Cup and that's a tragedy in itself.
  23. They can't because they're inherently different organizations. The Cubs have a "we'll get them next year" mentality such that just making the playoffs is a good season for them. The front office seems to accept the short comings and actually builds on them or, if they get too much heat, overreact and go a different direction too quickly. That's why you see how we've already burned out one young pitcher (Samarjina) and are well on our way to burning out more. They don't have the right corporate culture or outlook on the game, nor do they have the right scouting personnel. They'll never win the World Series while these things remain unfixed. The White Sox have a "We've gotta win but we're not going to do it the right way" mentality. They're blessed with one of the weakest divisions in the AL top to bottom and they can't compete. They too have fairly poor scouting. The main difference is that they get angry when they finish a season out of contention. The Cubs just shrug and go on with their lives. After all, it's happened for what... 103 years now? The Cubs are losers. The White Sox are just an average team going through a World Series slump. Neither are laudable. Neither are really standouts athletically. Just one is a sad case (White Sox) and the other is a punch line (Cubs) Sorry, I'll stop commenting on baseball.
  24. I think the bigger picture is that this is the first time success has walked onto the field at Wrigley since 1945. And I realize the Cubs didn't win it all in 1945, but at this point, I think them just MAKING the World Series is a monumental achievement.
  25. That's biologically not possible. Hey, since we're winding down on this, I thought I'd share with you what a couple of bloggers, Bloge Salming and Down Goes Brown (DGB is a Maple Leaf blogger) came up with regarding our friendly NHL Big Buffoon Gary Bettman: Like a Bettman
