An NHL.com blog states that Dave Tippett won the Adams Trophy.

Eager can be replaced from within. Sopel won't be missed. Aliu spent the year in the ECHL last year. On a weak Atlanta team, even if he doesn't make the NHL, if Aliu doesn't at least make the AHL, then Atlanta got a garbage prospect. Byfuglien is the big loss. I don't see anyone to step in for Chicago that is currently signed. They could re-sign Burish if they wanted, but he doesn't have Byfuglien's size to back up the mouth. I just hope they don't go with someone who's just ineffective like Boogaard or Scott. Oh and Reasoner? If they can trade him to another team with another contract player and get picks and a prospect, that'd be awesome.

The NHL Scouts weren't too impressed with his strength last year despite being predicted to go in the mid to late rounds. He's since had a rather subpar year in the USHL. Unless something behind the scenes is going on (which I hope is true), I don't see Mattson getting drafted. That being said, he'll have a strong 4 years at UND, get signed by an NHL team as a free agent, and go on from there.

Danny Mattson is also eligible but, unfortunately, I don't see him being drafted.

The Litigating Litvaks? The Marauding Moses? The Hebrew Hammers? Here's our mascot:

Why? Because they have stood by us, or at least they allowed their residents to show their voice. Their support needs to be acknowledged. That's one reason. the other is this: Maybe they can suggest a name that we can use that would allow us to keep the logo or perhaps do something like UA Fairbanks did. They changed their name officially to the University of Alaska Fairbanks Alaska Nanooks (or something like that). Then they could be called "Alaska" instead of Alaska Fairbanks. Maybe there's something we could add in front of Sioux and after Fighting that would allow us still to be the Fighting Sioux with an added word in between? Just a thought. Thirdly, if they help choose the nickname along this vein, they're not likely to oppose it (well, there will be opposition. Nothing is ever 100% supported). It's worth a shot. ------------------- Also, though this will be obviously historically antagonistic, UND could approach the Ojibwe tribes of North Dakota and Northern/North Central Minnesota to ask permission to change the name to the Fighting Ojibwe. I say historically antagonistic because, before the "evil" white man came along, the Ojibwe were the greatest adversary to the Sioux. They actually pushed the Sioux almost out of North Dakota at one point. Also, the logo was drawn by an Ojibwe (whose wife was Sioux but you know).. This idea is the least likely to be even suggested officially, though.

I can't much argue with this. I just hope the bleeding heart liberals that call themselves educators don't get too high of a say. Now's the time students and alumni! Start flooding the administration with acceptable nickname suggestions! With "acceptable" being relative, surely. UPDATE: I thought a little more about this and I think we should consider doing the following: Make Spirit Lake an integral part of the nickname change process. Maybe they can come up with an idea that can help us keep something of the tradition?

Copyright? I say Fighting Cavalry.

Hey! Since fourwindsboy came on here to gloat... You know what.... Let him gloat. I'd gloat about something bad that happens to him and his "people" but well... it happens so regularly that it's kindof the norm. Oh well. New nickname. Rid ourselves of the likes of fourwindsboy and this thread.

As the grandson of a holocaust survivor (if you all didn't know that already ) I can say that I agree with yababy. I also agree with Sica.

Norman's Steakhouse is still open in Fargo (last time I checked anyways) so... If they can manage to keep their doors open, then Whiteys has a shot.
-
That's awesome.

The "other" Matt White. The UND recruit Matt White committed to Vermont IIRC.

Ladies and Gentlemen: I give you ScottM... 1/3rd the viewership of Bloomberg and 3/8ths of the viewership of CNBC.

That's what Ed is: Sell out. Heh... I wonder.... if Fox News came along and offered him more money than he makes now to be Glenn Beck's "Ed McMahon like sidekick" I wonder how long would he take to flip sides politically? Would he put it in a religious context? "I saw the light, etc." Maybe he'd get creative? It's one thing to be a Rush Limbaugh type. Spouting poltical rhetoric that many (here) seem to despise. And it is another to be the same thing....as long as the money is right. A political shock jockey for hire. I sway like a tree in a hurricane! As for Imus... Wait... Fox has a Business network?

Forbort as high as 7th overall? That'd be neat, but something tells me that is a bit high. It will be interesting to see where everyone goes. Is O'Donnell in his draft year or is he eligible next year?
-
Isn't he on MSNBC or CNBC? Either way, no one watches those channels anyhow so I guess the ratings are relative. That's why I was so surprised that Don Imus' remark on that basketball team drew that kind of outrage. You have to be watching or listening to that blowhard to actually know what he said.... (On a different note: Wow... Don Imus... there's a reason why you're on the radio. Ugly as sin. Shut off the cameras dude).

Two tops. No one has died nor has McLeod had to face such a large pressure cooking type scrutiny to warrant going beyond 2 games.

82 - True enough, but if they get the same voter turnout as Spirit Lake, then it's all good. Up or down, I want to know what they want. If they vote no, we don't support the nickname, would it then not be the same as the 1992 accord, but more definitively so? The only harm in voting is the possibility that they'd support the nickname and the Elders would be forced to abide by the will of the people in a manner they don't want. That spells corruption, sure, but the Will of the People is all that matters in a Republic.

Another Article where Karr defends the Committee, himself He states that the icing rule may change the way the game is played by the players eliminating clutch and grab. Nope. Officials don't think or can't find it to call a penalty. He also claims that it wasn't unanimous. Well, semantics aside, even if it is MOSTLY opposed, it is still enough to overturn it. If Karr wants to change the game for the better by forcing the players to stop taking needless penalties and stop clutching and grabbing, then perhaps they should look into improving the officials that call the game. If the players know that every clutch and grab will be called, they won't do it.

And more importantly: He shaved off whatever you called that nonsense on his cheeks.

What? I think it is. The only benefit that matters: Definitive judgment. Say 2010 people vote (the numbers of the two petitions combined iirc) and 1010 people vote against the nickname and 1000 vote for. Yeah, it isn't good for the pro nicknamers but we got a DEFINITIVE answer to the will of the Standing Rock people. There's no arguing about it. The reason why there's no vote is the agenda I talked about earlier plus two factors: 1. Power. Standing Rock elders must enjoy the sense of power going in both directions: Elders on the White Man and I guess Elders on the Tribe. 2. Fear and Uncertainty. Sure, the vote could go in favor of changing the name but it could go the other way. If the will of the people says to support the nickname, they'd almost be forced to sign a 30 year agreement. To those Elders, that's seemingly unacceptable. As it stands right now, they have the power to ignore petitions at will. If the US Government did that (assuming the petitions in place had signatures comparatively similar percentage wise to the ST petitions), they'd be pretty much committing political suicide. But I guess ignoring the will of the people is something that is acceptable. I'm a cynic but I believe that, unless things drastically change, there will be NO vote on this issue... EVER.

We have two... Lammy and Hextall... Maybe Malone too. The problem is.... Lammy got suspended 1 game for almost fighting. I don't know how many players in Archie's time got such a distinction. If dropping the gloves but not throwing a punch signifies a fight now, I'm not sure we'll see a player truly like Archie.
