  1. ECHL Former Sioux: There's actually not a whole lot. As mentioned, JPL is tending nets for Utah... and that's it by my calculations. Not sure what happened to JPar. He might be playing overseas? Don't know what happened after the tryout with the Rangers concluded. On the CHL: Aaron Schneekloth - Colorado Kyle Radke - Rio Grande Valley Not a Sioux player but... wasn't a Les Reaney supposedly going to come to UND but went elsewhere instead? He's playing in Rapid City, SD for the CHL. Just thought the name was familiar.
  2. Though an example only, I think the suggestion of "Snow Snakes" is just lame enough to actually get some push. Remember, back in the late 90s, IIRC, the Student Senate tried to clean up our cheers by inventing a club that you could join that promoted good sportsmanship. The name? "Gang Green." Yeah. They liked it, had tshirts made, and it lasted one year under that name before it became the "Sioux Crew" but still... lame sells for the unimaginative. And yeah, I still have the Tshirt. Naively, I thought it just a humorous gaff, not a foretelling of things yet to come.
  3. Broken record but... Lucia still is the least of your concerns. take out Hill and put in a trained monkey and you guys will improve, imo. I don't see SCSU finishing out of the top 5 nor do I see UNO finishing in the top 5 despite their good start. I feel really confident now that I chose UAA to finish 12th. MTU is playing well. However, I chose MTU to finish below MSUM and that may not be accurate 3 games into the season. My prediction: 1. UND 2. UMD 3. SCSU 4. DU 5. UMN 6. UNO 7. BSU 8. UW 9. CC 10. MTU! 11. MSUM 12. UAA
  4. Watkins is indeed in San Antonio. Forney is in fact in Chicago (AHL) To add to the list: David Hale is with Binghamton (OTT) Chris Porter is with Peoria (STL) And that's all that I found. Haven't checked the ECHL at all tho.
  5. Hmmm.... Not sure. It's not always true. Guentzel's kid went to CC when pops wasn't there. All of the Eaves kids went somewhere other than Wisconsin. Isn't there a Serratore playing DI this year? I don't know who's kid that is, but if that's true (and they are related), he doesn't play for Bemidji or Air Force. I know Tony Lucia isn't the only one, but he's the one that comes to mind as the most recent exception to what I've just typed.
  6. I think UND can sweep the Beavers, but I don't think either game will be blowouts. They haven't blown out anyone yet this year. Not even Manitoba. And Bemidji is better than many here seem to think. They have one of the best players in DI hockey in Matt Read. They have lately seemed to strike gold in the area of goaltending. They have a premier head coach. They have a ton of motivation. True, we do too, but still... I'm not going to write off the Beavers. And we won't win by more than 3 goals either night... assuming we win either or both nights.
  7. I wonder if it isn't a move straight out of Major Juniors? When a player has the attention of a Major Junior team, they woo him and all that jazz. If they are sure he'll commit to the MJ league in his region, they'll draft him highly (assuming he's a big time prospect). If, predraft, the MJ scouts feel like he's more inclined towards the NCAA (either through feelers put out or by the prospect himself stating as such) he could slip down the list and end up being drafted in the 5th round or later... if at all. This drafting style doesn't indicate potential talent, but rather the most potential that would be the most certain to sign the contract and suit up for your team. I don't know, but it certainly feels like this is the case to me.
  8. Grimaldi gets a little weekly recognition
  9. Not going to argue with you. The Reds were pretenders. So were the Twins. Sorry Minny fans. I've never been a fan of the AL Central. However, good news! The AL Central is no longer the weakest division in baseball! The NL West and the NL Central is really duking it out for that title. As far as I'm concerned, the NL Central is winning.... or is that losing?
  10. Anyone ever see the Nanooks play before? What is their game style like? Are they a physical team like UAA? A finesse team like Minnesota? A hybrid like UND? I honestly know nothing about them.
  11. You know it's hockey season when, in the season opener, instead of running things on the ticker like "NHL season underway, great games abound" or something more creative, the headliner is: Crosby held scoreless. Oh, I hope the hockey world rights itself and Crosby scores 10 points tomorrow. I'm sure Bettman is bummed that his god child had such a lack luster start to his season.
  12. I really don't see anyone in the NL going to be able to stop the Phillies. Especially when they're warming up on the Reds. Yeah, I buy into Cowherd's antics again. The Reds are the weakest team in the playoffs. I know, you can poke fun at me because I'm a Cubs fan and, naturally, I hate the Reds, but let's face it... in the last 10 years or so, everyone NOT called the Cardinals in the NL Central have been jokes and pretenders going into the postseason, the Cubs kings of the title. The Phillies will walk into the World Series. The question is: Who will face them? The AL is again the league to watch this postseason because they will have the most entertaining series all together. Each AL series looks like they could be exciting to watch. The Giants/Braves series will be a snoozefest of 2-1, 3-2 , etc. type games. In games against each other, neither team is hitting better than .230. IIRC, The Braves have the better of the batting averages between the two at .228 or something like that. The Giants aren't even hitting above .200 against Atlanta. The Phils will sweep the Reds.
  13. At this point, this makes sense. I think Simpson should get ice time somewhere. UAA, MTU, exhibition games, and games that don't mean a lot otherwise... And injuries and bad practices/games by regulars.
  14. Isn't that the Toyota commercial? I can't remember.
  15. Good for them! I'm just glad TSN could get past Crosby and Ovechkin without saying "Screw the rest I can't remember their names."
  16. I'd love to see evidence of that. The rest of your claim is valid, though. There are heavy drinkers who live a very long time, like there are smokers who have lived longer than the average nonsmoker (see George Burns, for example). However, those are exceptions to the rules rather than the rules themselves. Keith Richards has lived about 15 years longer than he should have. Neil Young is right behind him. Doesn't mean that all those drugs and alcohol they've consumed has helped them get this far. Sorry to hijack the topic. Now back to Kristo bashing.
  17. Funny.... all of my friends that I know who have worked as a bartender sometime in their lives do not often partake in alcohol. If they do, it is rarely in a bar (usually at their own place). I'm not saying all bartenders don't drink, never get drunk, or hang out in bars even after they no longer tend bar, but it is an interesting trend among my former bartending friends. As for Kristo, he got caught underage drinking. He wasn't doing something stupid like Finley did. He wasn't driving drunk like Greene did. He was doing what seemingly most underage college students do: drink underage. This is a problem, but it isn't Kristo. This is a problem on almost every college campus in the U.S. (and every other college in a country whose drinking age is 21 or older). Benching or kicking Kristo off the team is simply a moron's way of saying "We only want perfect citizens." Hey, that's cool with me, man. Go root for Air Force or Army or St. Pristine the Immaculate. I don't care. He's paying a price. Is it too severe? No. Did Hakstol ignore it like Lucia (largely) ignored the Frazee situation? Nope. Is Kristo heading the way that Frattin did? No. He made a mistake. So, let's just live with it like Kristo is and move on. Leave the crappy outcry to the Gopher fans and all those who make a living at taking pot shots at UND.
  18. Ditka leads the team onto the ice and DA SIOUX beat da turf eaters 247 to 1 Seriously though: The Bison are a bunch of ex-WHL washouts. Steve Christie is probably their starting goaltender. They have a washed up duo of ex WHL goaltenders backing him up. Their washed out draft picks include: 2 7th Rounders 2 6th Rounders They also include Joey Moggach, who used to skate with BSU from 2006-8
  19. Worthless stat I'm told. Joe Finley also led the team in +/- IIRC. And he sucked so I'm told. In any case, I'd put MacWilliam, Simpson, or Forbort with Genoway. I really like the idea of MacWilliam on the ice. Why? Because I like a guy with a mean streak on the ice when there is a guy the opposition is always gunning for on it as well. If someone runs Genoway again, I think it won't be just Malone or Hextall that comes unglued. I think MacWilliam will take the other guy out.
  20. That or the Garden Inn isn't that far off. Even if you do stay a ways from Qwest, my coworker's brother owns a lot across from the entrance of the Center and it is about $8 per game to park there.
  21. Actually, we'd better hope Hill stays at UMN. If he leaves, it shows Lucia is starting to come around and that means a lot better Gopher team will skate onto the ice.
  22. There's more. I bought my tickets this week... though it isn't a road trip for me... unless you count the fact that the Qwest Center is about as convenient to my apartment as the FargoDome is to people who live in Valley City. There's more than just the Zoo. Historic Downtown has the Old Market, which has some of the best food around. I'm not a shopper so I didn't really get too excited about the shops, but they are there in abundance and none of them are chains. There's also the Durham Museum which gives a great historical outlook on Omaha. Let me know via PM if anyone is interested in meeting up before the Saturday game. I won't be able to do anything before the Friday game. I'm driving right from work.
  23. Looks like the primadonna syndrome has hit the Vikings. Favre pussing out on training camp for a second year in a row means he has absolutely no confidence in the depth. In Rice he trusts. Rice went down. So much for the Vikings. Good luck making a playoff run if they do go 0-6, 1-5, or 2-4...assuming no bye and Rice comes back in Week 7.
  24. Wow. I could've swore I saw Young in a KC jersey at some point. Oh well. Sorry for the error.
  25. Maybe. I can't disagree with you despite the fact that I like Shyiak...or at least the persona he comes across as having.
