[/http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/13692336.html "It's kind of been one thing after another all year long," Lucia said. "And that's OK. You learn a little bit about yourself when you go through these kinds of things. It's no fun for anybody Aside from injuries, there were other bumps: An 0-for-30 stretch on the power play, a visit from a sports psychologist to boost self-esteem and a loss in their own tournament to Rochester Institute of Technology. The mind is a strange thing, men. We must begin by asking it... ..."What is losing?" Losing is a disease... ...as contagious as polio. Losing is a disease... ...as contagious as syphilis. Losing is a disease... ...as contagious as bubonic plague... ... attacking one... ... but infecting all. But curable. Now, I want you to imagine... ...you are on a ship at sea... ...on a vast... According to Hak on the pregame show, Kozek was sick Friday and not feeling any better today and they felt if he was only able to go at 75% that they would stick someone else in there. To me if you win Friday, you should stick as close to the same lineup as possible, barring any injuries(illness) or very poor play.

Brian Lee is currently 24th in the AHL in scoring among defencemen and has the worst plus/minus of any defencemen for the Binghampton Senators so their might be a little bit of draft status playing into his selection.

Little Caesars North American Hockey Showcase 2008
petey23 replied to The Sicatoka's topic in Men's Hockey
Merrill played pretty tough out there tonight. He is younger, but he is a big kid 6-3, 180. On another note Ludwig is a bull out there even though he isn't real big 5-11, 170. A kid from Little Caesars had about a 5 stride run at him in open ice right after he snapped a shot from the point and Ludwig didn't even move and the kid that hit him was doubled over holding his shoulder as he slowly made his way back to the bench. -
Little Caesars North American Hockey Showcase 2008

Shattuck(had a supplemental roster different from the one in the program). Anyway they looked real good, after 2 they were up 6-1 and shots were 45-5. Toews looked real good! Bruneteau was solid as well. Wisconsin is getting a couple good players in Stepan and Murray. The Texas Attack also looked good in beating Smail's Colorado team(they got a couple goals late to make it close) Russel Stover tied the Winnnipeg Thrashers 3-3, scoring a goal shorthanded with about a minute to go, not sure why Winnipeg was pressing so hard on the power play when they were up a goal and time running down? Was planning on leaving, but ended up watching the Dallas Stars and Little Caesars game until the end. 4-4 tie, Little Caesars scored with the extra attacker with about a minute to go. Does anyone know if these 2 teams have a history cuz it was a nasty game right from the drop of the puck..defintely some bad blood between those 2 teams. -
In honor of the the Great Gordie Howe being in Attendance, which Sioux player has the best opportunity to record the rarely obtained Gordie Howe Hat Trick(Goal, Assist, fight) against Tech. The best contenders I think would be Rylan Kaip Andrew Kozek Brad Malone Darcy Zajac Joe Finley Zach Jones Anyone else have a shot?
-
Bickel and Finley would be scary to watch. Might have to have the women and children leave the arena first. Bickel is a big kid, was watching game against Mankato and he had this kid in a headlock and it looked like a dad grabbing his 4 your old unruly kid by the ear. But then Finley basically did the same thing to wheeler when he pulled him out of the scrum and made him stand in the corner. But their is a difference between USHL tough and Canadian Junior leagues tough. Ask Marco Peluso?
-
Dunn was born in 57, making him 22 as a player and about 49 now.
-
The Travis Dunn thing is a misprint. He did hold a record for the Sioux at one time and I think Mitch Vig either tied it or surpassed it. The record is for most games to start a Sioux career without a goal. For the record Jason Blake was 23 when he won a national title at UND, he was 25 his senior season, but did have a transfer year. Steve Debus was a 25 year old Junior for Minnesota and had he stuck around for his 4th season he would have been a little over 8 years older than his would be back-up Adam Hauser. Dan Woog was a 25 year old senior for the Gophers.
-
While I agree with some of your points, would it surprise you to find out that UND has not ever had a 25 year old player win a national title(at least one of the last 5 anyway)? 1980 -none, no one older than 23 1982- none, no one older than 22 1987-none, no one older than 23 1997- none, 2 24 year olds 2000-none, very young team

Have heard that from so many fanbases, mostly Gopher fans(who by the way had 2 of the oldest guys ever to play in the WCHA in Woog and Debus) but others as well, even heard it this weekend in St. Cloud. I got an A in racquetball, but had to sweat it out a bit because he hates to lose. The rumor was if you beat him he would give you a lower grade, but truth was if you showed up and passed the written test you got what you deserved. We had a some pretty good players in that class, I think only 3 of the people were able to beat him though.

Planning on buying tickets at game. Probably just get standing room tix. Last 3 times in St. Cloud have went like this. Saw guy standing with a fan of tix, he wanted $10 each, was getting money out to buy a couple and another guy taps me on the shoulder and says how many you need and do you need for Saturday too? I tell him yes and he hands me 2 tix for each game....FREE Same process, guy hands me 2 free tix for Friday game. At Howies on Saturday, the guy running the pulltabs has 2 tix for sale sitting on the counter(we are just planning on buying standing rooms and as we are walking out he offers the tix for $5 total, we give him $10 and hop on the bus. Last year, bought standing rooms for $10 or $12 on Friday and then on Saturday I bought 2 tix for $10 each from a st. cloud fan at Howies.(bought him a few drinks after game) Net 6 games, 12 tix, $50. In short, shouldn't be a big deal to get tix this weekend. For the record, I prefer to stand and did for all six games so not even sure where my tickets were located.

As someone who gambles a little, I know that when making a wager you should look at trends. That said, seeing how these are away games, the sioux lose Friday, win Saturday. On another note, Petey23 will probably have a little(or maybe alot) of the Captain in his system both nights.

Off the top of my head, my preferences would be 1. Kyle Schweigert 2. Tim Tibesar 3. Roger Thomas 4. Craig Bohl 5. Tom Dosch 6. Chris Mussman 7. Randy Hedberg

Actually, Jefferson beat red River in a game in which their goaltender stole for them as Red River thoroughly carried the play and even according to the Jefferson coach was the better team.

On 2nd thought, maybe there is something to this development theory after all. 2004 NHL Entry Draft 5. Wheeler 13. Stafford 20. Zajac 24. Chucko Summary: While it is not true that Don Lucia is unable to develop players to move onto the NHL, it is probably true that Don and his staff really don't stack up compared to Dave Hakstol and his staff.

The Kelly Inn is where myself and a few others will be. Been down for this series the last few years and their are usually alot of Sioux fans there. I think the team stays their as well. They have a Green Mill in the Hotel as well. Also within walking distance of the downtown bars. I think there has been a UND gathering in the past, but I have not attended it. We usually go to Howies Bar(think of a bigger Hub bar with a larger menu). they will bus you to and from the game and give you a Cab Voucher at the end of the night. Pretty cool hangout and have met some very cool St. Cloud fans there over the years.

He was in the Oilers system until he was released in the summer of 2002, so I was right in saying he is not in the Edmonton system anymore, but at one time was. And not to nitpick , but it was the Jackson Bandits who he played with, he now plays for the Mannheim Eagles in Germany....but thanks for pointing out your vastly superior hockey knowledge.
-
I guess Adam "wie magst du mich jetzt?" Hauser is not in the Edmonton system anymore.

I think K.O. is a malcontent. Don't get me wrong, I think Lucia is a condescending, hypocritical, ego-maniac.....but in this case I think he was truely trying to take a little heat off of Kyle Okposo as he knew what kind of heat his decision would draw from Gopher Nation(the kid is from Minnesota and is now a pariah) and OK, maybe saying that the Islanders put KO in a tough situation makes the U of M look a little better too, but for the most part he was trying to look out for KO in this situation and made what I really consider a throw away comment about the Isles. KO did not want to be at Minnesota this year and I am sure as he had conversations with the Isles brass whined about it a bit, or alot. The Isles see that with his attitude their number one draft pick is basicly wasting his time this year in Minnesota so they decide to pull him out. Garth Snow should have just taken the high road and said we know it's a tough situation but after talking with our scouts and personnel decision makers and Kyle we just felt it was best for all involved to make the move now...and left it at that, rather than let his ego get in the way and try and talk himself into beleiving that this is a good precedent to set.
-
Feb. 9, 5:00 Isles at Wild

How bout if Garth just said something along the lines of we are happy to have Kyle in our system and it was a tough decision for him and us to make at this point in the season, but after talking with Kyle we just felt that this was the best decision to make at this time for all involved. NO Class, kind of like some of the players and teammates of Garth's on the Maine teams who never attended class at Maine..... Sorry, felt like taking a potshot their.

Looking at his Bio, it looks like his brother played for the Jacks.

Wow! All I can say is wow! This situation could get ugly, or in this case uglier. I can't believe that an NHL GM would blast a coach and program like that. I think everyone loses in this situation in the short term. Okposo is a puke for bailing on his teammates, but in the long run he will probably be alright. The Islanders show a lack of class for encouraging him to leave and a total lack of class for blasting a program that is one of the standard bearers in College Hockey and a coach who has had a pretty good track record over the years. The Gophers and coaching staff come out looking bad in this and it could certainly have a negative affect on recruiting as it is the nature of the business that a recruit will be asked by opposing coaches and recruiters if they are confident that going to Minnesota will be the best move for a kid who wants to play in the NHL. The whole thing stinks.
