  1. Never seen Nash play but why does everyone think he is such a savior. Has anybody ever looked at his stats? I have. He only averaged 10 pts per game for his junior college team (not D1). He shot 23% from 3 and only 44% from the line. Horrible numbers. He had 76 turnovers and only 51 assists. Next is Texas Tech where he only played 8 minutes a game for the worst team in the Big 12 and averaged only 2.5 pts/game. Shot 0% from 3 and only 28% from the free throw line. Again horrible numbers and he had 20 turnovers and only 2 assists. Yeah I would like to see him play but he has not had good numbers at either the JUCO level or D1 level. Yes he should help but he obviously needs work. Right now this team is playing hard and taking great shots for the most part. We lost by 30+ to this same team last year and less Huff we lost on a buzzer beater. These players are beginning to play better as a team than they have for the past 2 years. Players are stepping up and I am for one glad to see a better balance of shots and scoring. Schuler and others are stepping it up.
  2. Has everyone already forgotten we have won back to back conference championships with mostly freshmen and sophomores. There is alot I wish were different but its way too early to be changing coaches. Now that we are finally in a real conference and have an oppourtunity for the NCAA's it should bring in even better talent down the road, case in point Hooker. He has brought in a really solid class(currently juniors) with nothing really to play for. Lets give this coach several more years to see what hapens. I still believe next year is going to be our big year.
  3. UND lost 85-58. Poor shooting and again a lot of turnovers. I believe Smart had 8 turnovers herself.
  4. Agree, very nice. In case nobody noticed Northern Iowa lost to the number 2 team in the country (Louisville) last night by 5. Northern Iowa had the open shots like they did against us but only shot 34% and should have won this game. Our non conference schedule just continues to get tougher and tougher, plus they are all on the road. How about a few more home games next year in non conference.
  5. So basically if he does not win his appeal he has only 1 year with UND. What a shame. UCLA won an appeal, Indiana won an appeal for 2 players, so whats the chance little UND wins an appeal?
  6. Of course neither would Wilmer. I'm putting Huff at the 4 because of what Mitchell did last year. Mitchell shot the 3, drove to the basket and rebounded a lot. Many screens were set for Mitchell to get him the ball in a position to shoot or drive. That would be the same for Huff at the 4. He would have just as many touches whether he was at the 4 or the 3 and Huff is also one of our best rebounders so he will be around the basket. Huff at the 4 would bring a scorer like Schuler more in the mix and make it harder to guard 5 potential guys that could all score 20 on a given night. Besides Huff, Schuler has the 2nd most 20 point games for this team in his career. This would be tuff for most of the teams in the Big Sky to guard is all I am saying. I really dont think Huff at the 4 would be any problem for him at all. Wilmer is not a scorer at all. I don't even think he has 100 career points in 3+ years. Wilmer still doesn't know how to set a screen and how many times a game does he get called for an illegal screen. It drives me nuts every time that we loose a possession 35 feet from the basket.
  7. Also, 35 turnovers. Thats a big OUCH.
  8. Wilmer and Brekke both play the 5 position. Neither one can play the 4. Sorry, but don't agree with Wilmer at all.
  9. Must be within 100 miles according to the new NCAA rules which are being put into effect beginning this year. Last year I believe Nash would not have a problem but this new rule was put into effect this year. I would have liked to see him play this year and next with this junior class but we still will have him for 2 years regardless.
  10. I think Schuler needs to be more than just a back up for Huff. He is the only player that can play the 1, 2 and now the 3. I just like alot of what he does for this team, the most un-selfish player we have and never takes a bad shot.
  11. Obviously a great get for UND. Where does he fit in next year with such a large group of guards, of which most are seniors ( Webb, Anderson, Schuler, Antwi, Benton, Huff, Hobaugh, Thomas).
  12. I dont honestly see Benton playing alot of minutes this year, especially when Huff returns. This is a very experienced lineup to crack. I was also confused as to why Traylor didnt play more. I really like his game from what I've seen so far.
  13. I wonder what the starting line-up will be when Huff returns. We now know Nash will not be playing this year so that opens some things up. Nash would have been at the 4 spot so do we move Huff to the 4 for scoring and rebounding and start Webb (1), Anderson (2) , Schuler(3) and Brekke (5). To me that would be our strongest lineup by far. We would have Traylor at the backup for Brekke and Allard as backup to Huff. Antwi would backup the 1 & 2 spot and move Huff around to give Schuler rest. To me that would be a solid 8 players in the rotation come Big Sky time. Schuler is way too much of an all around solid player to keep on the bench and the other starters I mentioned are just as solid in those positions. What does everyone else think?
  14. Hopefully, Have no idea how long a person's mouth has to be wired for a break. I wonder how much weight and muscle tone he will lose during this process. I would think it would take serveral weeks after to get into game shape.
  15. Heard 5-6 games then heard 1-2 months. Its definately not game to game. Had his jaw wired shut several days ago. Heard more from the broadcast of the Northern Iowa game than from our own media.
  16. So of the 3 bigs we brought in this year to help this team where needed only 1 is playing, assuming Nash is not ruled eligible. On top of that Huff is out for 5-6 games to start a brutal nonconference schedule. Definately not the start to the season we were looking for. Of course, all that matters is the Big Sky and hopefully everything will come together by then.
  17. Hawaii's top three scorers play down low. Of the keys you mentioned the biggest will be our bigs. They are bigger than us and sounds like almost every possession the ball goes down low. This could mean serious foul trouble for Brekke and others. I hope this is not the case but it definately concerns me. We must also have our sharp shooters hitting the shots. Cannot afford another poor shooting night. Its going to be another tough one for the boys but anything is possible.
  18. No doubt the non conference schedule is brutal. Coaches can fix things and if Nash gets released that should help also. Looking at the records for the other Big Sky teams they are having issues also. There are 4 or 5 teams that have not won a game and I believe the top team (Montana has a losing record also). Our record is not going to be very good heading into Big Sky games but this team can definately compete in the Big Sky if issues are ironed out, and there are a lot of them right now.
  19. I agree with you 100%. With Huff in or out we need one true point guard and the man has always been Webb. Anderson is proving to be too small against the type competition we are playing these days. More plays need to be set up for Brekke and Schuler. Schuler is our best pure shooter and when he is open nobody passes to him. I would like to see him come off screens like we did for Mitchell. Instead our best shooter stands all alone in the corner waiting for a pass that wont come. Seems once the point guards decide to drive they are shooting it no matter who drops down on them. The offense is set for them to drive and draw and then dish. They keep forgetting the dish part and try to shoot over the trees, expecially Anderson.. He just throws it up and flops hoping to get the call. Wont work against the big guys. If the players continue to play as they are now, when Huff comes back I would start Antwi at the point and Schuler at the off guard with Huff at the 3 , Traylor at the 4 and Brekke at the 5. Would the coaches do this?
  20. What is wrong is our offense sucks. Too many guys just standing and our guards r suppose to drive and dish. Our 2 point guards r shooting like !@#$ and missing the wide open guys. Northern iowa is a real TEAM that is so unselfish. We aren't. Most play for themselves and we will never beat a team. Time to fix things now before league play starts and that falls 100% on the coaches.

  22. Antwi and sculer with 6 each. Nobody else hitting. What in the heck is anderson doing shooting everytime he touches it. He's shooting like crap this year and keeps shooting bad shots. At times we are putting in 3 pt guards. Need the shooters in not 3 pt guards. Wow. UNI can freakin shoot the 3 from even the post players.
  23. This game will be almost as tough as the K-state game. This Northern Iowa team is as good as any team they have had in years. Our guards are going to have to shoot lights out like they did at home Wednesday night to stay in this one. I am believing this game will be our break out game on the road and we pull off the upset. Its time to win a big one on the road. Go Sioux
  24. Very tough stretch indeed. We need a good solid road win somewhere along the line and this would be a great game to get it done. Norhern Iowa has a big starting lineup: 6'9, 6'8, 6'4, 6'3 and 6'1. Hopefully our bigs stay out of foul trouble.
  25. Played a very team game tonight. A lot of assists and guys shooting the threes that should be shooting them. Should have beat them by 30+ and thats what we did.
