  1. A tie between Rachel Dusich and Margaret-Ann Hinkley. Rachel Dusich - Former Apple Valley Eagle! Margaret-Ann Hinkley - More than doubled playing time last season, greatly improved stats, a bigger frame than Amber Hasbargen, I would expect her to be the #1 again next season. Alexia Gagnon-Laplante is good too, 4th highest goal scorer, 5th highest in points last season and she was a frosh.
  2. I have followed Karl's career since I first saw him in the MN State finals and I started following LeClaire when I saw him drafted in the first round. I think it is safe to say that Karl will be back next year...Pascal's future is less certain. Pascal has a tendency to be really hot for one game and then really cold for the following two games and he also has major concentration problems. Pascal didn't even dress for Syracuse's Game 7 playoff game this year, Karl was and will continue to be the more consistent "go-to" guy in Syracuse. We all know what happens when you underestimate Karl...
  3. The team has had great success in just the first two years and I don't see any reason why that should change. The coaching is solid, we've got two capable goaltenders...besides it's the Sioux...we may not dominate in our first two years, but I don't think it will take long before we'll be hanging NC banners for women's hockey!
  4. Actually Adam Hauser played pretty well at the AHL level last year. Will he solve LA's goalie problems...probably not, but he may buy them time to develop Zaba or pick up a better goaltender through drafts or trades. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid=42553
  5. UND has plenty of good goalies, whether people are willing to give some credit for their accomplishmetns or not. One could easily argue that Jake only has good stats because of team defense, but the same could be said about Jordan's no-loss streak last season or Goehring's play behind Great Sioux teams. I think Jake and Jordan have both proven they can get the job done. I know Jake personally so I would rather see him leading the team, but that doesn't mean I would not be happy to see someone else step up and perform well. Jake is a good goaltender, he has a lot of expereince to share with our younger goalies and I look forward to watching him play next season, hopefully someday he will be given credit for his accomplishments at UND instead of criticized constantly for not being the second coming of Goehring, Belfour, etc.
  6. I think that Brandt and Parise will split the time again this year. Brandt is a senior and has been tested in a wide variety of situations so there is no reason to cut him. Parise proved his worth last season and should perform even better this year. Ziggy didn't get a chance to prove anything last year and with Lammy being touted as the next Karl (I'll believe it when I see it) he seems to be the odd man out again. Lammy is said to be the next Karl...like I said, I will believe it when I see it, but if he is I wouldn't be surprised to see him getting some time next season with a much larger load in the 05-06 season. No matter how the situation plays out I think it is safe to say that UND will be ready in net for the next three seasons or so...plenty of time for (Coach?) Hakstol to scout some more talent.
  7. Top 5: 1. Karl Goehring (Best goalie ever for UND, makes up for size with heart) 2. Jake Brandt (Great guy all around, bigger leader than most people realize) 3. Matt Greene (One of the funniest guys I've met, first goal brought back memories of Commodore) 4. Zach Parise (Down to earth despite the hype and loved watching him head-dive into the net to retrieve the puck for other players' first goals.) 5. Mike Commodore (Gotta love the hair!)
  8. Right on! I think he'll do a great job. The season hasn't even started and people are already complaining. Give the guy a chance people. If Hak wasn't the best guy for the job Dean would not have recommended him. I am looking forward to watching the team succeed next year behind Coach Hakstol. I am also intrested to find out who will be on the list to move up into Berry's old position.
  9. You've got it! The reason why goalies make good coaches and commentators is that they see everything. They can watch plays develop in both ends. A goalie's job is to keep pucks out of the net and to do that they must always know what is going on, where plays are developing, different player's tendencies, who will shoot, who will pass and to whom... I would love for KG to be a goalie coach here and eventually head coach, but I would like to see him continue to play for now. He still has time to make it into the NHL and if not the NHL he should easily become an AHL all-star...I know that the fans in Syracuse love Karl and would hate to lose him so soon.
  10. I think Karl has a shot at being an NHL backup someday if he is given a chance, but Columbus is bent on forcing Leclaire to develop. I am glad that CMB picked up his option though. I don't think Irbe will be a factor for too long because he is at the end of his career...it's Denis and Leclaire that are more of a depth concern. PS. I heard that Karl and his wife are expecting a little bundle of joy, congrats to you both!
  11. Mikko Koivu is still playing for TPS Turku. His stats are at http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdispla...pid%5B%5D=56074 He is still young and so he may take a while to develop, but I don't know that he will ever be near the level of Gaborik or his older brother Saku...the rumor is that if there is a seaon next year the Wild will bring Mikko to the USA to play for the Houston Aeros (Wild's AHL affiliate) so that he can begin developing and adjusting to the North American style of hockey...hopefully he is not a bust for the Wild because they need more offense.
  12. It may also prove to be good for UND's current set of players because Dean may be able to get some of our current guys second looks when it comes to the draft...
  13. I'm a Wild fan so I love watching the underdog win, however I did feel bad that Cujo missed getting a cup, he played great...as did Kipursoff kudos to Commie too!
  14. The Leafs really left Belfour out to dry today...only 1 of the 6 goals against him were his fault, the rest came asa result of horrible mistakes and turn-overs by the defense...he did not look too happy heading to the locker room...
  15. I would say a lot. Denver was a team no one really expected to be in the final four. Some people complained because Denver played the trap defense, but I thought that was great. I thought Denver and their coach did what was needed to win and it certainly wokred out. Congrats to Denver, thanks for keeping it in the WCHA!
  16. Some people prefer the geometric design...myself included. PS. The shield look awesome!
  17. Karl picked up his second playoff win on Friday. http://www.syracusecrunch.com/stats/games.cfm?objectID=372 He stopped 32 of 34 shots, again against the Americans who are back stopped by Ryan Miller (former Hobey Baker winner). Once again Karl has proved he's better than Columbus's former 1st round draft pick Pascal LeClaire who has not lived up to expectations, while Karl has consistently exceeded expectations.
  18. Karl gets his first playoff start and first playoff win with the Syracuse Crunch tonight against Ryan Miller's team, the Rochester Americans. http://www.syracusecrunch.com/stats/games.cfm?objectID=371
  19. I saw and still see no mention of empty net goals on the game score sheet, but that may be because they just counted it as a goal against instead of an empty net goal, however the two MN goalies combined for 51min and the CA gaolie played for 51 min so were both nets empty? Here are the goalie stats for the last game for the MN goalies: No Player Played Shots Saves GA Sv% Gms GAA 35 Damjanovich, Aaron 27:00 16 15 1 93.75 1 1.00 1 Obrien, Brandon Joseph 24:00 14 10 4 71.43 1 4.00 and for the CA goalie: No Player Played Shots Saves GA Sv% Gms GAA 35 Billick, Thomas 51:00 28 26 2 92.86 1 2.00
  20. Belfour is the only reason that the Leafs have made it this far and I think he could carry the team to the cup, he looked solid again tonight! Good luck to Eddie and Commie in the 2nd round!
  21. I hate to say it, but Cujo deserves a cup more than anyone. I will be cheering on the Flames (This year's Wild and Commodore) and the Leafs ("Steady Eddie" Belfour)! I'm not a big fan of buying the cup (See Dallas, Colorado, Detroit, etc.), hopefully the new CBA will fix that, but if not I will continue to cheer for the underdog...and former UND alum. Tough loss for Eddie tonight (44 saves on 46 shots)..too bad Lalime played well too (27 saves on 28 shots).
  22. MN lost to California 5-2 looks like MN should have stuck with the better goalie, but decided to split time the whole series. Showcase Stats: 1 CS Team Minnesota Obrien, Brandon Joseph 177:56 88 78 10 88.64 7 2.42 35 CS Team Minnesota Damjanovich, Aaron 128:04 53 51 2 96.23 5 0.78 Not that it would have made a difference, but each team played around 10am then in the championship game at 5pm. I think it's stupid to play two games in one day. Kudos to all the kids who played, especially twice in one day!
  23. Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan make sense, but California in the finals?! Must be from northern California. Go Minnesota!
  24. Fun to watch...even more fun when the dirty Canucks lose. I know my opinion is a little biased since I am a Wild fan, but the Canucks have got to be the dirtiest, cheapest team in the league. Good luck Flames put the Canucks away in game 7!
