Yes, we went over that. He took them to the Summit Championship game. And then 2 of them graduated. The next season it was only DAE and Rebraca, one of who spent half of his time looking for a new team. And the 3rd season, he had none of those players. Point being, cupboard was bare. Can you imagine what this team would actually look like if Rebraca, Ihenacho and Bruns were still on it? Man, that would be fun....
-
So you're saying the cupboard was bare?
-
I'm confused what the point of this is? Did he not have "Jones players" in Year 2? Year 3?
-
At least you should be happy, you get a chance to be negative and complain.
-
His best player actually went to summer school just so he could graduate and transfer out.

So the new coach did better with the old coach's players in a new system than the old coach did? And then the new coach struggled because there wasn't a whole lot of talent left on the roster and not much coming in? The roster had plenty of turnover during the prior regime despite there not even being a transfer portal option. Beyond that, I'm not going to sit and go back and forth over old issues and other things that have been around for a lot longer than 3-4 years. It serves no real purpose other than speaking negatively about things and people in the past. Like I said, we get your opinion. Some agree with you. Others think it is a lot more nuanced than "fire coach now".

As a program, despite the record, I would say it is in a better place. A handful of reasons for that answer but I want to make it clear that I don't think the program is anywhere near where it should be right now either. And I don't think you'll find anyone within the athletic department or the MBB program that would think it is either.
-
The previous coach was bought out of the final year of his contract. He didn't exactly leave a full cupboard on his way out.
-
The program was having pretty severe issues before Paul Sather ever submitted an application. Is Ndoukou expected to be here next year now? For some reason I thought there was talk of him joining the team in the 2nd half of this year but assuming I'm incorrect on that.

Apparently he can't even stay satisfied with an FBS coordinator job for more than 3 weeks....

How many other coaches lost their best player, an all-conference candidate, because they were forced to transfer in order stay in the country and not go back to Serbia due to visa issues? I don't think anyone is arguing with you on where UND is in the current pecking order, which is exactly why they are losing more than they are currently gaining out of the portal. Again, not exactly the same "challenges". Feel very confident both the last two seasons would have been significantly different if Rebraca wasn't forced to transfer.
-
Yet other schools, who are currently better than UND, saw enough in them to want them? So either they were talented before they got here (meaning they are recruiting talented players) or they were coached up pretty significantly in their short time here. Ihenacho heard from James Madison, Ball State, Florida International, Colgate, St John’s, Montana, Pacific, Drake, UNI, SIU, UNLV & Western Michigan. Probably safe to say he wasn't offered a spot at all of them, but there was at least some interest. No clue who else Bruns heard from because USD was in his ear so early that his mind was made up before anyone knew he might leave.

I mean, if they weren't high level talent coming out of high school, then the coach did a helluva job coaching them up in less than a year. Or hear me out, the coach has an eye for finding some talented players that are overlooked by others? Firing people and/or calling for heads =/= accountability. In fact, I'd argue all that does is put a program/athletic department in debt and gives prospective coaches a lot of hesitation on taking the job. And there are zero guarantees on how someone new would perform. Could be better, worse or the same. To be clear, under normal circumstances, I'd probably agree given the results. However between Covid, changes in the transfer portal and a very unlucky visa requirement, it has been far from that. I'm not quite there yet. That's fine if you are, but we're just going to have different opinions on it.

2022-23 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
jdub27 replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Serious question: What exactly did Jackson say in that article that was different than what Berry would have said? I've heard BB make very similar comments about players who have struggled, had to take some time for reflection and figure out if they wanted to work through it or not. -
Talented enough that other schools want them. We get it. You think it is time to move on. Others don't agree, quite yet at least.

Yeah, I mean, just because you have an opinion doesn't mean it's accurate.

UND (6-8, 0-1) vs NDSU (3-11, 0-2) 12/30 7 PM

They've attended before. Not saying their attendance couldn't be higher, but typically their schedule does not line up as well with being able to attend. -

There's been two games and NDSU spent both of them playing catch up. But I'm all for them continuing to limit Morgan's minutes. -

On the other hand, he went for 35/16 against WIU and they lost by 19. He's likely going to get his. Contain Morgan and don't let any of the other players contribute. -
Wait, apparently SDSU is recruiting D2 players as well? Next you're going to tell me they kept running coaches out of town until they got immediate results out of one.
-
Pretty telling that they didn't mention how it would be funding going forward, meaning there wasn't external funds raised. Just signatures. And we all know how good NDSU is at putting those together....

Comparatively speaking, UND fan support for its women sports is pretty high up there in comparison to other schools, above alot of G5 and plenty of P5 in both WBB and particularly WVB where they've been well into the top 50 before. On the men's side, they fall a lot further down the list. Point being, UND can show recruits a lot more "fan" support on the women's side comparatively to the men's side and that shows very well for those sports.

Always fun when UND is on the wrong end of something that ends up causing a change to the rules....
