We don't know why she didn't start. lf it's because she broke a training rule or whatever, I respect a coach that doesn't have a separate set of rules for her best player. Two sets of rules destroys team morale.
Be tough to call the long snapper an upgrade, as, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't recall Hinders making a bad snap in 4 years. Also, I thought that our punter had a very good year this year. Place kicker is another story.
Along those same lines, Devils Lake has beaten the first place, fifth place, and sixth place teams in the West (pointwise), but is winless in the East.
She's a sharp, young, energetic coach that bleeds green. Despite giving up 75 tonight and 85 last week at S. Dak., I think one of the differences between this year and last year is that, overall, she has the team playing a lot better defense.
I think that she's doing a very good job with what she has, and I think that she probably has less this year than she had last year, but already has four times as many wins this year as last year. Plus, it looks like she's doing a great job of recruiting. Gutsy move to hire her after a 2-19 season, but I think that it's going to prove to be a good hire.
We don't know what's behind her not starting, at least I don't. Players aren't immune from disciplinary action just because they're the leading scorer. She seems to be a good kid and, if so, she'll get beyond this and show her good character.
I think that that's one of the advantages of recruiting North Dakota kids. There may have been one, but I can't think of any North Dakota kid that has ever transferred out of our program. They tend to stick.
Looks like a recruiting class that has the potential to turn the program around overnight. Exceptional job of recruiting. It would be nice to start challenging the South Dakota schools.
