  1. For those interested, Jets lose 13-3. Bollinger (GF Central Grad) finished 14-28, 150 yrds and no ints. Sacked 5 times for 25 yrds. Jets had no running game. Not bad for a first start. I hope the Jets stick with him.
  2. Sioux-cia, I agree with your post. However, it seems clear from GK's position that he believes that changing the name will not improve the conditions on the reservation but is necessary because he feels it to be disrespectful to the Sioux people. I'm not really sure because most of his posts are filled with little more than anger. I agree that GK's passion would be better directed towards actions that will actually make a difference for American Indians but that would require much more work and commitment than marching in protests, attending meetings and posting internet messages. It will take actions and commitment like your ancestors to raise above past injustices. That said, let me take the other side of the argument since I don't think that GK will take you up on your offer. As I understand GK's position, his question would be whether you would have any trouble with a nickname like the "Fighting Mexicans" that depicts a logo of Cortez or Santa Anna or any of the other warriors of the Mexican - American War or would you feel honored that your ancestors were being used to symbolize bravery and courage for a college sports team? I don't agree with GK's position, I'm just trying to understand it.
  3. PCM, Thanks for the link to grandforker.com. Real cool site. Also, EXCELLENT article on Ken Hendrickson. Thanks.

    UND @ CC

Yeah, but it's not that impressive. Looks a lot like the old toboggon hill at Lincoln Park.
  5. Man, and married with kids and everything. I thought NoDak passed a law that prevents such a thing. Article on CNN.com saying that NCAA will allow Indian tribes to be heard on nickname issue. Focused on Florida State mostly since it appears Seminole tribe supports the name. If there are differences between Sioux tribes as to the logo, wonder how the NCAA will weigh that evidence? Does one tribe have more pull over another?
  6. Yeah, like the guy holding the chair now has never dodged a question he didn't know the answer too. I find it amusing that some on this board assume that anyone who supports the name change has got to be some left-wing liberal lesbian nut job and views anyone who opposes the change as a red-blooded, kick ass, George Bush loving American. The only conclusion that I have come to in reading all the threads about the name is that there is no common ground and appears to be no room for compromise. Seems we are seeing a lot of that lately on any number of issues. I suggest a thumb wrestling match between PCM and GKracker, best two out of three, winner take all.
  7. Thanks to bkuddy's incoherent ramblings I must officially call GAME, SET and MATCH for GrahmKracker. My guess is that bkud is either a mailman or a Republican or both. Somebody check Teddy Kazinski's cabin up in Montana to see if it has a new resident. Face it, the best arguments for keeping the name are tradition and it looks cool on a uniform. Neither very persuasive. If you think the boys are not going to play as hard if they have a different logo on their chest then the really weren't much of a player to begin with. I am still against the name change but I want to thank Kracker for some very insightful thoughts.

    UND @ CC

Panino's Downtown is the place to be before a game although it will be filled with a large amount of Tiger fans. It is run by someone in the Sertich family and they have an outlet is Roseville, MN as well. Great food, great pre-game atmosphere. If you're the gambling type, Cripple Creek is just a couple hours away. Small mining town with a number of casinos. Large factory outlet shops just north in Castle Rock. The Air Force Academy is probably worth seeing if you got nothing better to do.
  9. I agree UND-1. I have repeately asked one simple question of GrahmKracker and Knowthe Facts and other ban supports but have yet to receive an answer. For the last time, please englighten me on the following: What will changing the UND nickname do to improve the situation at Fort Yates or the current dire state of American Indian culture? If it is the first step in a jouney of 1,000 miles, then please tell me what the second one is.
  10. I have prepared for this ever since THE SOURCE told me Greene was gone shortly after the bus left from Columbus. Thanks Greener, what a pleasure watching you play. Best of luck. Radke will be solid this year. Also, what is the story with Bina? Don't hear his name mentioned. I have been out of the loop but I thought he had planned to return this year. What is the story?
  11. Good point. However, I fear it will turn out to be a classic example of winning the battle and losing the war.
  12. First, I thought the PC term is American Indian and not Native American. After all, I was born in America so doesn't that make me a Native American? To the main issue. After reading this thread and others similar to it I have come to the conclusion that people have strong feelings one way or another that will not change. I am not an American Indian and do not claim to know much about the Sioux culture. As such, I can't begin to understand how a person of Sioux decent feels over use of the Sioux name. I personally don't think that UND's use of the name or logo is hostile or abusive. However, I can understand how those with Sioux ancestors would find it offensive. I guess my main question to Kracker and Knowthefacts is whether there are any circumstances that those Sioux tribes that oppose the name would find it OK?
  13. To me, that is the problem. Too many American Indian families do not have the $$$ to provide their children with an education. I said long ago that when the new arena was being built, the best thing that American Indian leaders could have done would have been to sit down with Englestead and figured out a way to include schlorship programs as part of his gift. Instead, they rallied around changing the name and wasted time holding protests.
  14. Fighting Sue. We use a tough looking fat broad as our mascot.
  15. Surely the money that has been and will be spent on this issue could be better used to make a real and meaningful difference for American Indians. Imagine the number of schlorships and American Indian programs that could be funded. In my opinion, removing the Sioux logo from all NCAA sanctioned events will do little to improve the lives of those who are supposedly being harmed by use of the name "Fighting Sioux". That will require far more money and effort than holding a couple of rallies outside of sporting events. If the NCAA feels the need to act, how about using some of the millions earned off the sweat of amateur athletes to fund college schlorships for America Indian students?
  16. If the report is from "THE SOURCE" than good-bye and Godspeed Matt and thanks for some great memories. Here is wishing you meet Mr. Punkabitch in a intra-squad game down the line and introduce your elbow to his chin. . . . repeatedly. All the best.

Trioup, You're my new Source. The guy I had been relying on for "inside" information assured me that Bollinger was a lock for the AD, the Italian was a lock for the Pope, and Bellamy Road was a lock for the derby. He also assures me that Greene will be back next season so let me be the first to say...... Good luck in the NHL Matt and thanks for the memories.
  18. All about the dough is my guess. $3 to $4 hundred ger, free wheels, a place to stay and Swedish babes would be hard to turn down, especially for a 40 game season. Good luck Brady and thanks for a great couple of years.
  19. Crapchella will not abolish the student section...that would not happen. The players and coaches alone wouldn't let that happen. However, I really do believe moving the section would be good for the atmosphere, less friction between students and non-students. Just imagine a sea of green behind the opposing goalie doing the sieve chant in unison...while standing the whole game if they so choose, put the band with them and you have an environment like Columbus or other bigtime road games. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  20. When I want info on sports I get to read PCM, Michigan fans get to read Joshie Boy. Point, set, and match. NORTH DAKOTA.

    Smaby

I'm not sure I've read any posts in any way placing blame on Smaby for either goal. Smaby was an absolute force both games. It would be a HUGE loss if he decides to leave early. NDH, the "Source" changed his story after he sobered up. My hope is that he is wrong on the Greene info in the same way he was wrong to pound that 15th Vodka/Grapefruit before offering to take on that DU tailgate mob. Lucky he had the muscle of you and I to back him up.

    Smaby

On the second goal, I read a quote from Stasney that said the puck went in off his back end. Didn't see the replay so don't know for sure. As for Greene, a reliable inside source told me he has already made the decision and will not be back in Sioux green next year. If that is so, thanks for the memories Matt. I sure enjoyed watching you destroy guys the last three years. Best of luck.
  23. What about North Dakota Hockey? His post is dead on seeing the Sioux were in Columbus with three other teams from the WCHA.
