  1. Sorry MM. I went to the University of North Dakota for a year myself and have been a miserable failure in most every walk of life ever since the day that I left.
  2. Except, of course, for the small handful of dicks who have made a temporary stop at the University of North Dakota in pursuit of failed careers . . . .
  3. Just saw a cool story on Fox 9 News, Mpls-St. Paul. A little kid from Russia, adopted by a family in Minnesota, promised his buddy that he would find an American family to adopt him as well and bring him to the United States. The adopted boy's family looked and looked, and found a taker in the little boy's hockey coach and family. The coach? Phil Sykes. Both Phil and his wife, whose name was really cool but I simply cannot remember her name, were both on screen talking about the thrills of adoption. Phil and family already had a raft of children, so it appeared, but they simply could not say no. Their lives are now the richer. The story was largely filmed at the Mpls.-St. Paul International Airport as the Sykes' family was welcoming the boy to the United States. There are many Phil Sykes in this world but there is only one Phil Sykes on this board. I am quite sure that it was him, judging from the fine shape that he was in. The story will likely run again tomorrow morning on Fox 9 News. I assume, but am not certain, that Phil and family are in the Twin Cities. Adoption is a wonderful thing, for all involved. Many kudos to Phil Sykes, his bride, and family, for making the dreams of little boys come true. More proof that Fighting Sioux hockey players, past and present, are way 2 Kool 2 Ever B 4Gotten.
  4. Rats. Not me. E-Bay is made for folks who can sit by their computer at the last moment. I was out, and someone nosed out my max bid. I suppose that I could have, and should have, simply put in a higher top dollar. Someone got a sweet deal on a sweet jersey for a good cause. The buyer oughta throw in an extra Hundo to the seller for added good faith, eh?
  5. I can't believe that they sent Paris Hilton back to jail!! I think that I saw Brian sitting with her family in the courtroom . . . . Contract talks can wait. Paris is burning.
  6. Geez. It almost sounds like the autographs makes the "M" jerseys decline in value. Those with mustard and malt cup stains, on the other hand, can fetch a premium price if game worn by the right fan.
  7. My guess is that it should, and will, go for a LOT more than that. This is a charitable auction for crying out loud. It's always bugged me when people look for "steals" at charitable auctions. The purpose at charitable auctions is to SPEND MORE money than something is worth so that the charity can benefit. I hope, and trust, that the owner/seller will do what is necessary to top the highest bid if it is insufficient in amount. The predicted $350-400 Range falls into this category. AZSIOUX, sell some more of your personal collection of jerseys and step up to the plate in a big and meaningful way. There is the gauntlet. Maybe something like this is best carted up to Warroad for auction at the charity golf tournament that is going on up there? BTW folks, don't forget to send in your donations there, even if you can't make it. Let's give boatloads more to TJ's kids than he and his teammates have given to us.
  8. More proof that opinions are like a-holes . . . . Everyone has one. Good for the Goofs and the UM for Okposo to be returning. Great for the WCHA and college hockey as well. I'm all for a reversal of this trend toward early departures.
  9. Well, maybe the players did not dress the night that the person worked hard to obtain all the signatures from everyone else . . . . With the feeding frenzy going on over the game worn jerseys, I am surprised that there is so little action on this item. There is still about thirty hours to go on the auction. I hope that many of us will realize a good cause, and step up to the e-Bay plate and bid this jersey up to a price where it belongs. Who's ready?
  10. A great jersey for a great cause. I missed it early because I always punch in "fighting sioux" when looking to dribble a few dollars down my leg on e-Bay. Who's ready to cross swords with NDH on the e-Bay Block? There are at least ten future NHL All-Stars on that thing.
  11. The more you are selected, the better the chance you have of getting selected. A seniority thing. I have both hit and missed over the last few years. I have no idea on the mathematical chance. Depends on number of entries I suppose. If you ain't in the game, you've got no one to blame. You should know, however, that the NCAA will ding your credit card now, and use your money. If you lose out, you will get a credit card refund come around August or September. Good luck.
  12. The NCAA Frozen Four lottery expires a minute before midnight on June 1. With location in Denver, a number of tickets going to Denver season ticket holders, the popularity of this event, and the prospects of who may or may not be in the tournament, this could be a tough ticket. Here is the online link. Frozen Four Application GR8 SK8 in '08
  13. This sounds like a great event that, sadly, I will not be able to make in person. I have been suspended from charitable tournament play in five states this year. An indictment on my abilities may be pending. However, I do intend to send a donation to the tournament. I hope and trust that many of us are in the same position to do so. TJ has given volumes to his roots and to his schools, including his decision to remain another year at UND. We, as fans, will all benefit from this. Open the checkbook and send a donation. Given the volume of traffic on this board, the SiouxSports contingent, even though not playing, can really make great strides in putting this worthwhile fundraiser over the top.
  14. Damned straight there 7>4. Well said. I too am a big fan of amateurs, what with being one myself and all.
  15. Not too funny given the fact that they have stopped us in our tracks three of the last seven years, and the last two years, on our run for a Title. I have heard that the NCAA no longer has them shipped to the Third World, but sends them to the incinerator instead.
  16. I am thankful for the very sturdy oaken gang planks on the good ship North Dakota Hockey because, without them, the many here with shakey faith who have stepped out to the end of those planks in mid-season choppy seas, boldly forecasting the end, would no longer be with us. Then, we would no longer have them around to most likely again cry wolf in future seasons when Hak and staff are melding new young teams for late season championship runs. I am thankful for the strong gang planks on the good ship North Dakota Hockey, and I am thankful for all of the regularly returning gang plankers who routinely prove themselves forever entertaining with their lack of wisdom, faith, courage, foresight, and knowledge. Fighting Sioux attributes all.
  17. Naw. Just bored. EGG Line is another stupid one. Good monikers in sports are few and far between. Someone nailed many of them. The Mailman is another one. Back to topic. Toews stays. It'll be announced right after the Blackhawks are eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs. Or after he and his family make their decision. Whichever comes later.
  18. Conventional wisdom has Lee gone. We've all known that for weeks, if not months. My sources, which are none of course because only The Source is a source with information of course, has Lee returning. My issue with FightingSue, and it is a small one, is her denigration of the Sioux name, most likely done intentionally to raise my hackles a shade, which she succeeded in doing, only briefly. She is likely a fan of the corn farmers to the south. Anyway, my apologies if FightingSue's name is Sue. Always a possibility.
  19. Maybe a virtual game. Let's say I am deal a three, six, eight, and ten of Diamonds, a King of Hearts. and a six of Spades. I'll bid two, unless we are playing with partners. Then, I'll look across the table at my partner Dagies and calmly outbid the two bid made in the chair before me. "Three," I'll announce, knowing that, as a partner, he is always good for at least a point. Hey, why not the Smear Line for our lunch bucket guys next year? Or not.
  20. Holy Smokes Dagies!! Game on!! I've rarely met anyone who has ever played it either, at least down in these parts. Perhaps your Grandpa bought my book? "Smear Your Opponent" by NorthDakotaHockey. It's long out of print, but it did help me buy my trailer house in Landfall.
  21. You can do better than that AZSIOUX. In my opinion, it's a stupid nickname. Simplistic. Without meaning. Easy to formulate. Dots don't exactly convey an image of strengh or perserverence. I'd let Woog take the credit for it. He's a bonehead, and it is a bonehead moniker. Of course, that it just my opinion and we all know that opinions are like AZZZHoles. We all have one.
  22. What the heck do you know? You cain't even spell. It's Sioux, not Sue. Dipstick. Go stick yourself.
  23. Goldie's. Bill and Blossom Goldberg, husband and wife. Great bowling machine. Great place to hang out. He had trinkets on the wall and behind the bar. Loved to play smear. I taught him the game, what with me being the undisputed world champion of smear for many years. He and his wife were Jews from the old country. Had seen it all. He could tell stories for ever, and make even the biggest of derelicts, like me, feel right at home. The place burned down years later, probably after being scavenged by bloodsuckers after Blossum first, and then Bill, passed away. Now back to the topic at hand. Johnny T., along with his teammates, will lend new meaning and importance to a variation of the old catch phrase of ideologues . . . . It's Real Cool to Be Staying in School!!!
  24. This thread should be more appropriately titled, "Will he sign before completion of his junior year?" Here is saying that he will not. He is barely nineteen, if that. He is developing well in the WCHA. He is getting an education, and likely living the Life of Riley on campus. He is a stones' throw from his hometown. He has friends on the team with unfinished business. He has all of the tools necessary to continue developing, both on and off the ice, at his fingertips. The pro game will be there for the next fifteen years or more. He has an insurance policy that will well protect him against injury. I am as much of a genius as the other self-appointed geniuses here who are considering it a foregone conclusion that Johnny is gone. Maybe it will be true, maybe it will not. There are as many good reasons for him to stay as there are for him to leave. Maybe he and his family are not as motivated by the blinding almighty dollar as others often are. The bigger picture, and the better wisdom, has Johnny Toews skating for the Sioux next year.
  25. We are BIG Lee fans, just as we are BIG fans of damned near every Sioux player, except for a handful of selfish and self-centered dicks who have come and gone over the years. Lee has done everything asked of him. He is solid, smooth, and clever. Granted, he may not be the prototypical Sioux d-man that many of us have come to know and to love, but we have never considered him anything but an asset both to his team and to his University. Does he make mistakes on the ice? Sure. Just like we all make mistakes in whatever our chosen miserable avocations in the work world may be. That is one of the many things that make college hockey great. It is played by kids, and kids make mistakes. Mistakes lead to odd-man rushes, spectacular goals, spectacular saves, and sometimes frenzied play. These kids are not pros, and most all of them will never be pros. Pro hockey, by comparison, is boring. Players are rarely out of position. The rarely get their skates crossed. You rarely see odd-man rushes. The players are too good, and the game is too precise. I'll take college hockey any day, and it kids like Lee, solid both on and off the ice, that make the game as great as it is. I really get tired of folks griping about Lee. Give the kid a break. He has obviously done much more, and has gone much farther, than any of us here, at least in his presently chosen passion in life. We hope he comes back, but would not criticize him if he does not. If he does not return, there will be BIG skates to fill, and we have all seen how long it takes for a young d-man in the WCHA to adjust to the greatest game on earth.
