  1. Not arguing your point on that, but Wisconsin has the same policy and they still made the scheduling agreement with us. So I think it's clear someone dropped the ball here. The nickname was going. I think everyone knew that. They could have made an agreement contingent upon... but didn't. Lots of things could have happened, but didn't. I think it comes down to the fact that the rivalry with UND wasn't high up on the U's list of things worth preserving at the moment. Which is a shame. Just my two cents.
  2. gfhockey, That's inaccurate. When Lucia got sick a few years back and had to miss the trip, he said it was one of his favorite trips and was bummed to miss it. Alex Kangas, on the other hand, was quoted on FSN as saying how much he hated coming to GF. But that makes sense. We were so mean to him. Poor guy... lol
  3. I don't like to mention names because I don't like when people call me out by handle on a message board without saying something to me directly... but there are some Gopher fans who have been talking for months about how they don't care if we stop playing each other and would rather maintain the in-state rivalries. What's your take on that? You seem informed enough...
  4. Hey now, this year they're going to Vermont to play!
  5. I wonder what the chances are of ticket prices going down at various schools because of realignment. I can take a glass half-full approach... LOL. Yeah, I'm probably reaching there...
  6. Having Grimaldi on the third line would also IMO make it a complete mismatch for a lot of teams to defend. He's first-line talent playing on the third line.
  7. No, I didn't say "afraid". That is just the natural conclusion a lot of people will reach here when you kill a rivalry to schedule non-conference game after non-conference game with everyone under the sun. The U could have scheduled UND if they wanted to. They just chose differently. I just don't buy all of the reasoning you provided. I'm sure it's part of it, but there's a lot of other stuff out there too. Personally, I don't know why a big rivalry isn't a scheduling priority, but that's fine, it's not my decision. And I've been aware this was going to be the case for a very long time. So this news wasn't a shock to me.
  8. I heard otherwise. I'm sure that's how it went down from the U's standpoint.
  9. Sorry, but that's not how this went down. That might be what UM is spewing, and that's fine if you want to buy into that, but there is two sides here. And the fact is that UM could have scheduled UND if they wanted to. But they don't. They did EVERYTHING they could to avoid it. I'm sorry, but one can only come to certain conclusions. In-state rivalries should be a priority. But to suggest preserving one of the better rivalries in college hockey is not a priority is a bit off base. And if it's not, well that must be that infamous U of M education I've heard so much about. It's disappointing for the fans, and it's disappointing for the players. I bet every kid that committed to one of these programs is disappointed they won't get the chance to play in a rivalry game like that.
  10. Yup. I heard first that it was because of the nickname thing, but I didn't buy that. I stand by my comment about it being an avoidance tactic.
  11. I did see that BU has a very young team. So we'll see if we can take advantage of that inexperience. They graduated both their goalies from last year, so I think we definitely need to try to rattle their new ones a little bit. Does it seem to anyone else that a lot of teams (more than usual) graduated goalies last year? There seems to be a lot of teams with some inexperience at that position.
  12. Miami lost and they stayed put. We win and tie and go down. It's subjective, not objective. And then there's that person who keeps giving Union a number one vote when they're sitting down in 10th. I've seen every Gopher non-exhibition game this year. If that's the number 2 team in the country... *shrugs*
  13. If this year's BU team is anything like the one that showed up to play the Gophers in regionals last year, I'm not shaking in my boots too much.
  14. They would ALWAYS be first in line at the student entrance. That guy that was a fan of the Gophers also cheated to get lower bowl seats on nights he had upper bowl tickets since he worked at REA - he'd pretend he was working to get to the lower bowl. Pissed everyone off. But like I said, I attended UND from 06-09, and I learned of the list near the end of my time, so I don't know the situation currently.
  15. There are currently no flights going out of the east coast. I saw on twitter that SCSU's women's hockey team is stuck in Providence until Thursday. So we will see if we actually play this weekend.
  16. These guys had a list of players from other teams and things to chirp them about. I don't know if it falls much into the "cheers and chants" category, but these guys were diehards who spend the week leading up to the game doing research. Added to the atmosphere of the student section. I graduated in 09, so I'm not sure if a similar group exists.
  17. Do we still have the guys with "the list" ? By the visitors penalty box? Guessing they graduated. I hope they passed the torch...
  18. Well, the Gopher student section only knows 2 cheers, maybe 3, if that makes you feel better... And they stole most of them from Wisconsin
  19. Based on Twitter, I'm guessing one was Holy Family's Shane Gersich. He lives in Chaska. Tweet said "Sioux game in OT #rockin" Not 100% on that though. Either way, I don't expect him to commit to UND.
  20. I was just slightly amused because I saw some chirping from Gopher fans when we only beat the U-18s 6-4 and then the Gophers go and tie them. I'm thinking their fans should have probably kept quiet before they knew what they were getting. The U-18s have a lot of talent, and are going to put up a fight. They are a good majority of the top players in their age group in the country. They're not going to lay over for you, no matter what team.
  21. Got our SRO tickets yesterday through the Gopher Athletic Dept, who randomly called my mom trying to sell a 3 game pack and she talked them into just the UND series after convincing them she was a Gopher fan. Ha I thought that was funny.
  22. I saw Lincoln play a lot last year, and I don't think I ever saw him on a line with Kevin Roy. Except maybe on the PP. He played with Jared Hanson (now at CC) and Matt Friese (now at UAF) whenever I saw him play.
  23. SECOND GAME OF THE YEAR! and yes, I'm yelling.
