  1. Oh yeah I forgot that NDSU is a baseball D1 team. How the heck do they afford that? Do the bigger schools pay them to come play at their place like in football?
  2. You do have a point here. Think of the travel costs for a D1 baseball team around here. Nebraska and Minnesota (and maybe a couple others) are the only ones within a bus ride away. Wisconsin doesn't even have a baseball team if I remember correctly. Travel costs are hard enough to cover as a D2 team bussing around Minnesota and North Dakota - I think it would be virtually impossible to fund at the D1 level. If a university the size of Wisconsin can't fund a team how would one expect UND to?
  3. "Sub-par"? Both squads are pretty "sub-par" if you ask me: UND: 10-23 (2-10 NCC) tUMD: 11-23 (5-7 NCC) It's clear UNO and MSU are heads and shoulders above the rest of the NCC. And I think most college baseball teams operate at a loss - that's a given. My friends on tUMD baseball team often comment that they "pay to play baseball" here. Even after fundraising relentlessly, they still foot their own money to pay for things. They just love to play baseball. It's definitely a sport that is on the low end of the totem pole at most universities.
  4. Don't forget tUMD won two additional games yesterday against UND in Duluth.
  5. "We landed on the moon!"
  6. I'll bite: I've spoken with Bubba several times about his spread-run-and-gun offense and he simply feels that is the best way his program can compete in the NCC at this time. With the talent level in transition from NSIC caliber to NCC caliber he had to work with what he had and that was playing to showcase the talent of the quarterback by spreading people out and letting him make throws. tUMD doesn't have the horses yet to run the ball consistently and opposing teams knew that so why even try? Play action in a pass-first offense isn't going to fool anyone at this level so no need to bother with that. I talked with him after the signing period and he still thinks they are going to pass most of the time but he will try to mix a few runs in there once in awhile but doesn't see a need to become a running team at this point. They got a few horses coming in that will help in the future, one being a tackle from Hill City that Michigan State was interested in. NCC co-champs - who's to argue with that? And honestly a 7-4 record is just fine for our program at this point so I think most would be happy with that next season. Good stuff about Lennon though. But how would he do against Ditka? And Bubba also hired the offensive line coach from the same school: http://www.umdbulldogs.com/mens/football/i...1&story_id=2426

  8. Ziggy has a GAA of 7.31 and a save % of 0.781. Have fun with this one Sioux.
  9. Doesn't start til 7:37. Big surprise that Zigmund is in net.

Not much buzz for this series. Perhaps all your hands are too cold to type. I'm not expecting much tonight from the Dogs. Hopefully they keep it close and don't embarrass themselves.
  11. My American self is disappointed but my Bulldog self feels rather proud. Rooth (whom has her number retired here) with 2 goals and the winner and Martin the future Dog with a stellar performance. Not to mention the captain Holst. Hopefully they give Canada a run but I wouldn't bet on it.

From tUMD press release: Johnson didn't make the trip west for this weekend so that means our backup goaltender is UNDEFEATED against the Sioux. I pray to Allah that Ziggy doesn't have to start a game - he has been BRUTAL in his limited action.

These will be the first Bulldogs games I've missed in the new Ralph. My favorite game was that HOF game and not just because of the Prpich/Peluso fight but the fact that I was there in shorts and sandals. It was like 75 degrees out that early October day.

Iceburg - do you happen to know a place in Duluth that would be able to get the satellite feed for Friday night's game?
  16. It seems like you guys have been fighting on this for years. We had these same problems at tUMD. Without asking anyone, they moved our student section from the redline to the corner. We could stand the whole game and they could sell our redline seats for a premium price. It really has worked out great for everyone. Sounds like your situation may be a little more complex though. I know that standing vs. sitting is an issue that will be debated for all time but I really do believe that standing adds to atmosphere because people tend to be louder when standing. When choirs sing...they stand. When people speak in public...they stand. Voices project better when standing. - "it's science" © Ron Burgandy. When people sit, they get lazy and become spectators and not participants. This is fine, except for when you're in the student section and are looked upon to lead the cheering. Just my $0.07.
  17. I was also wondering how this article has anything to do with UND hockey.
  18. Originally done by tUMD PB of course and written about in INCH.

Don't feel sorry for Duluth. It's 50 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, not even the slightest breeze, and The Lake is a deep blue and calm this morning. The trees are deep shades of orange, red, and yellow, the creek is babbling outside my window and now I'm headed out the door to tailgate. But thanks for your concern.

  22. At the gate? They don't sell out and there is no reserved seating.

Here's an article today from Duluth's paper that isn't linked on your site yet. Very nice things to say about Roger Thomas and the UND program. Click Me

Rumor around campus is that the Dogs are thinking about forfeiting.
  25. The Dogs will need UND to turn the ball over at least 4 times to have a shot at pulling the upset. A special teams or defensive touchdown or two by tUMD would also greatly improve their chances. I just don't see tUMD keeping it close, especially if the weather grounds their passing game.
