    Penelties

I have to laugh when ANY Goopher fan says that one of our players Dive. I haven't seen this much diving since last summers Olympics! The Gophers are the best (sarcastic) divers I've seen! ZParise possibly embelished the check from behind, yet the Gophers did run into our goalies 3-4 times at least! When a Sioux is hooked, we skate through it......on the penalty that resulted in a 5-3, I think if that were the Sioux, our player would be ABLE to skate through the stick work, and NO penalty would be called! I wonder how many players on the big "M"s are majoring in swimming? Diving 101 - 401 must be packed come wintertime!
  2. So who else wanted to kick Woog and Mazzoco (sp?)'s #%#$@% Can they get ANY more biased? You would have thought that Prpich was out to KILL Taylor? Look who it's against? I don't know who is the cheaper player...Taylor, or Ballard? Get a clue Woog! Too bad it wasn't you out there that got smoked! I have had ENOUGH of their commentary!
  3. Did anybody notice how DF, FM said how "great the officiating" has been after the first period? Was it 4-1, or 5-0 in favor of the Goophs on the PP?? Imagine if it were vice versa....... Great Game by Jake!!
  4. How bout this......I LIVE in MN, and still HATE The Hockey Gophers........now THAT"S funny....... GO SIOUX!

    Sioux at MTU

I think for the Sioux to be a complete team, we need to have 4 lines rolling! I don't want to be negative, but I don't want to see a repeat of last year, when a team concentrated on Parises line, and shut them down! We need a good mix of the younger players along with a strong mix of the veteran players! I think down the stretch that will be key! I still say this league is easier to win in with veteran players overall. with the mix of all the talent and veterans, this team should go a long way!
  6. I say Brandt is the guy down the stretch. No Jordan has not lost yet, but I just think that Brandt is more poised, and has more experience. I still am not comfortable when Jordan decides to "play the puck". Nobody knows what he is going to do with it......half the time he gives it to the other team, or ices it. I think Jake is ready to take on the load of being the #1 Goalie....Jordan is a very adequate backup if he doesn't get the job done.

    Jake Brandt

I agree you need to work on goalies for the next season, but Jake is only a Junior! If you have a "go to guy", you need to play him as much as you can. I agree, get Parise some playing time....but am not sure you want to start doing the rotating of goalies at this stage of the game, at least not yet. Parise will do fine I'm sure, I just don't feel nearly as confident with him in the nets. He needs to watch his puck control. Bring the other goalies along slowly, and the Sioux will be fine for years to come.

    Jake Brandt

Jake's a competitor, plain and simple! I think what I've noticed this year, is he's more "poised", and does not over-commit to plays on the sides of the net, and doesn't slide all the way over to bring himself out of position, leaving a wide open net! I still say that you go with the upperclassmen, especially in goal! I think he has matured to the point where he is ready to be "the man" in goal! Nothing against the other 2, but I feel more confident when Jake is in there!

    My Great Weekend

I thought Jake played very well in Friday's win! I think he should be the go - to - guy. Take a look at how he handles himself on the ice? He goes out aggressively to stop the puck, and directs the defensemen quite well, letting them know where the puck will be, who's coming on them, etc. Parise on the other hand, comes out to play the puck with reckless abandon! Heck, he got caught out of the net at least two times, checked about 3 players, surprised he didn't get a penalty. And what bugs me worst, is how he skates to get the puck, then just shoots the thing down the ice at will? I don't think anybody knows where it is going? I know he's a freshman, and is not a terrible goalie, I just think it's time to make Jake the man and see how far he can take the Sioux until he loses the job! anybody else have the same opinion?
  10. Bryan is in Europe. He filled in for an injured player on the Sierre team who is now back with the team playing. This past weekend, he was on a USA select team, I believe Jeff Panzer was also on that team? I believe there was an article on it from the GF Herald this past week. They won the tournament, and now he is waiting for his next "stop" in hockey. Chances are, he will remain somewhere near Germany. there was some talk about him "possibly" returning to the Milwaukee Admirals, haven't heard any more on that.
  11. I heard his groin is really hampering him......
  12. Problem is.........there is a difference between "rotating" goalies, and playing "musical" goalies! It got so bad at one point, where nobody had a clue who would be in net! I don't even know if Blais knew minutes before game time! That cannot bode well for the team's mentality (not knowing, etc.) The goalies talk about being best friends off the ice....heck, why wouldn't they be? they're the only ones that knows what it's like to have their heads messed with 24/7! I would notice them when they'd get pulled, or start one game, and wouldn't even dress the next! How much confidence does that give a guy? Good lord! Can you say "psychiatrist"? Maybe we need one of them instead of a goalie coach??? Just my thoughts.....I honestly think Jake will step up, and have a good off-season....training all summer, and come in and be #1! He's got the competetiveness! he can make the big save....puck handle....now he's got to stop those weak / back breaking goals and we'll be fine!!
  13. Ok, gonna throw this out again........do you think Lundbohm could do well with Bochenski on his wing? Don't forget about Dave! I think he could have a huge year next year! He's a senior....and knows how to get things done in this junior / senior dominated league! He needs a wing who can SCORE! This year, I thought Massen started decent, but disappeared and look at where his goals came from? I would say from Lundbohm........... Anybody else have the same thought? Or is it just me?
  14. I agree Mike........the people at REA need to get a better grip on when and where they play there songs to get people up! Sometimes things are going fine, and fans will generate there own noise......but let's face it, sometimes there needs to be a little "help"! I remember numerous times getting the crowd fired up, only to have to wait for the #$@#%$ red light to go off, then it was almost a waste!! What did people think of them playing movie clips during the breaks before OT? To me, what a MOMENTUM killer! Keep the place rockin, and not put people to sleep! The team needs the home town crowd to be LOUD, not there to watch a FLICK! In my opinion.....they have a ways to go!?
  15. I almost totally agree to Taz! It's easy to judge a building when a team is WINNING! We still haven't totally seen what that can be like when the Sioux are really good once again, and we get some of the "Rivals" to come in. As we all know, the Gopher's weren't in town this past year......who knows.... I think there is potential for that place to get loud again! It is a different building, but I agree....also could be very special! Remember the CC come from behind tie? The place was wild! Denver series wasn't bad either......I think it will take a little time, but put some wins together, and the place will come around. Not that it should make that big a difference, but it should help! now...as far as the student section.....I'm ALWAYS for the student section....heck, it makes the atmosphere! The only problem, is the "good old students" who do the cheers, etc, are dwindling....IMO. (not as many of them going to games) It's also more difficult to get 11,500 fans going than it was 6,000. A lot of this is due to the "entertainment" atmosphere! I would say the move had a "little" to do with $$$, but I actually like the corner seats myself!! Maybe next year there can be a push to get the fans more into the game instead of sitting on their "duffs" and bellering, "sit-down", I paid for my seat...blah blah blah....and get up and CHEER! Just doing a little venting......the Old Engelstad is history, great building, great atmosphere.....but it's like an old light bulb....get over it and make the new REA a rockin atmosphere!!!
  16. Ok, once again....I can't find anything on Hale signing on ESPN and NHL transactions!!!!!
  17. I will definitely miss Nudsy and Spie busting their tales! Wow, can Kevin wheel! And Jason, no matter how big the other guy was, Nudsy would be right in his face! What a couple awesome penalty killers! I think they paired up from the first year and spent numerous penalty kills together?? We will for sure miss their presence on the ice! Leiny....I love the kid! Will miss talking with all 3 of these guys after games, or after the pre-game skate on Saturdays! Nudsy came up with Lundbohm over Thanksgiving this past year......man did he make me laugh! Quite the memories over the 4 years! Will miss them a bunch! I also will miss John's comments and insight into nearly EVERY player we played against! Keep in touch John, and hope to see you at some Sioux games next year!!
  18. Sorry Siouxrock..but can you learn to type NORMAL for once? You give me a headache with your absurd and anal typing......
  19. Here's my take on this years sophomore class......... Bochenski.......obviously scored a lot of goals.....but, could he be better? Bear with me here....but how many times did he try go 1 on 2 vs. the opposing team in the 2nd half of the season with no results? Don't get me wrong though, still a potent threat and a great player!! But might be better if he follows the play and waits to get the puck so he can bury it!? I have to disagree with the call on Massen.....in some games, he did make improvements! This kid for his size is LAZY!?!?!? Yes, he did make a few nice moves, but move your butt kid! I think he was a disapointment! He was a sophomore! They should be able to hustle more and good lord, why can't he use his strength, or even check more? Need to step it up and work HARD next year! Then we'll see! Canady....nice guy, but STUPID STUPID penalties away from the play that has nothing to do with the game of hockey other than undisciplined penalties! Get a clue! Connelly? I think big disappointment! He'd do some circling, but couldn't get much done, and ZERO GOALS??? OUCH! Not gonna cut it in this league! Genoway.....I was high on him after the first few games....but then he disappeared? I'm hoping next year he'll bust out! Mcmahon....decent player who I think is still playing under his potential, but he has been a good defensive centerman and a solid 3rd line center....but still think his offensive production needs to increase next year! As long as these players spend their offseason working hard, I think they all will improve! Hopefully Filing spends a little time thinking on his "passing" abilities! Can move the puck ok, but then doesn't know exactly what to do with it...(IMO). These juniors need to step it up and we'll be fine next season!
  20. Wouldn't surprise me either way on Hale........does he accept the money if it is there now? Or, does he try "prove" that he can be healthy and play the full season?? I agree.....it would be nice to have 8 defensemen........I've seen Dahlen practice, but haven't paid that much attention to him......seems to have decent size......nothing huge, but might be ok as a fill in #6, or 7 defenseman? It's nice to know we "could" use R Hale on defense as well......so maybe Blais is hoping David stays, if not....he will adjust and look for someone late!?
  21. I'm still wondering what whim people are going on with this? I agree he has every chance to sign, but until I see it, I am waiting on this one! Where is a report saying he signed?
  22. Wow........a lot of good discussions and opinions on next years teams! I would say unfortunately, that the Gophs will be really good! However, I remember Blais saying that 03-04 will be his "powerhouse" team! Wow would that be fun! I haven't seen this Murray kid play...so I can't see if he would be the remaining piece of the puzzle....but I'm sure he's good! I said this on another post earlier....What about putting Lundbohm with Parise and Bochenski? Do you think that Murray will be able to step in right away and not suffer the 2nd half slump like Parise did this year? (he still played well in my opinion....but the production wasn't as high as earlier). This is still a junior/senior dominated league (IMO).......the big question to be answered is how will our returning Juniors and seniors be? I think Lundbohm will have an excellent season! WE need R Hale to step up....Massen needs to PRODUCE, Fylling, McMahon, and Prpich......if these players step up, and our recruiting class can hold their own.....I think we will be hard to beat!! As far as defense......if Hale stays........you show me a better defensive lineup? Hale/Schneider....Greene/Jones......Marvin/Fuher......Smaby....?? WOW! I think they all will be better, and be able to carry the puck up! If GReene stays out of the box.....I think he handles the puck quite well for a guy with a 7 foot stick!! I think Jake will have a good offseason, and be able to be a factor next year and take control of the goalie position! I have not watched any of the new recruits in Goalie play......so I don't know who else will be good. I could easily see Siembida play juniors next year to gain some CONFIDENCE! Right now, he looks like he's ready to crap his pants everytime a puck comes towards him! Go Sioux.......
  23. I'm sure I will get a few comments back on this one......but does anybody wonder why Blais didn't put Lundbohm, Parise, and Bochenski together more often this year? I like the way they played in the 3rd period in the Regionals! They were always looking for a player to "fill" the spot on that line....how many 1 goal games did we lose? Who's to say they won't try it next year? Sure Murray has great credentials coming in....but I think it would be interesting to put a line together with some "older" players.......we all saw how Parise dropped off in the second half of the year....let's face it, this is a junior/senior dominated league for the most part! It will be interesting to see how Murray adjusts! Maybe he will be just fine! I just don't want to go through the same thing again......"learning to adjust to the WCHA".... any other people feel the same? Either way, we should be great!!
  24. Yeah.........Wooger calls him Lundblom! Has ever since he and Bryan played for the Sioux! What the heck??

    Frozen 4

This is a TOUGH one for any Sioux fan.........cheer for the "hated" Gophers.....even though they are a WCHA team........I can't decide who I will cheer for. Maybe I won't cheer for or against them....is that legal? I agree....seemed to me there were a ton of Rodent fans cheering for Ferris Wheel. (I mean state).....I was actually surprised though when some Gopher fans actually came up to me in my Sioux jersey and said they were cheering for us! So....they can't all be bad! It's those BAD ones that make me mad and give the Gopher fans a bad name! I do think the Maroon and "Yellow" have an excellent chance in the Frozen Four and would not be one bit suprised to see them win back to back championships...(heaven forbid what we'd have to put up with then...) just my thoughts........
