  1. That is exactly what I said. I don't want Hak fired, but there are a lot of people on the board saying that there is zero chance he is ever fired. He won't lose his job for failures in the Frozen Four but it also doesn't mean the death of UND hockey if a replacement comes in. I don't have names for specific coaches and I wouldn't expect anyone without a deep hockey coaching knowledge to have that either. There are good coaches outside of Hakstol though that can move up. Of the "Top" programs with new coaches in the last 5 years I would say Boston University and Denver are the only two. BC, Minnesota, North Dakota, Michigan and Wisconsin being other top programs with all of those coaches winning a NCAA title other than Hakstol.
  2. Woog 14 Seasons 390 Wins 188 Loses 40 Ties .663 Win% 6 FFs 1-6 Record Hakstol 289 Wins 143 Loses 43 Ties .654 Win% 7 FFs 1-7 Record **Woog was fired after 2 sub .500 seasons and Lucia came in to replace him. Lucia won 2 NCAAs in his 3rd and 4th seasons. I'm not saying fire Hak, since I still believe he could go on a roll if he breaks through once. The team has also played much better the last 3 games in the FF and has not gotten "puck luck". That being said he goes below .500 for a couple of years and he could be gone. Also the Gopher hockey program has not suffered because they let a good coach go and they did win 2 NCAAs with the replacement for Woog. Another team to watch is Denver. They fired a great coach in Gwoz and were very good in their first year with Montgomery. Let's see where they end up the next few years. What I'm saying is that Hak is a good coach, but not great (at least yet). He shouldn't be fired, but isn't untouchable either. I would say that you can compare UND more closely to Minnesota and Denver then a program like Duluth or Michigan State.
  3. I went with Roughnecks and Roughriders. For the second one I don't really care if it is Rough Riders or Roughriders.
  4. UND should just adapt Anns as a new nickname. I'm sure the NC$$ wouldn't catch on right away. We would then be the N.D. Anns. (hint, hint Indians)
  5. Truth be told I've bagged on Hak in the past based on his struggles in the Frozen Four. He's had the best team in the nation going into the FF and not gotten it done. National Titles define the most successful hockey programs and UND is one of them. Having a 14 year drought has made it all the worse for the fans and critics of Hak. In a one and done tourney a little bad luck or hot goalie can derail anyone though. That being said, this year's team to get into the Frozen Four is an outstanding coaching job without question. It would be the best single season job ever by a coach at UND if he can get through MN and BC/Union to win it all with the talent he currently has. Not to mention as soon as Hak wins one I can see him going on a York/BC type roll. He needs a little puck luck and perfect his system and then every other team better watch out. The thing I think about is if UND fired Hak would you want him in the NCHC? I surely wouldn't, since I could seen him making UND pay for many years to come. That is the ultimate nightmare.
  6. '03 Exactly - 0 Championships in 11 Years. Pot meet Kettle.
  7. I like TO capitalize RANDOM words when I TROLL on other TEAM'S forums.
  8. I've been a fan for over 30 years and a season ticket holder. Haven't missed a Final Five or NCAA game in over 7 years, but I guess that is a casual fan for tnt. Idiot.
  9. Hakstol = Woog. Look at the records and the lack of NCAA success. 9 years and no National Championships is ALL that matters. Do UND fans care about anything else? Would you take what UMD has done in the last 9 years? I would, since they have 1 National Title in that time. Minnesota went with Woog for 14 years then let him go. Hakstol is running out of time in my book and honestly should on a short leash. No coach at UND has gone 10 years without a National Title and not been fired. That is a fact. 14 years is too long not to win a championship. I don't care about WCHA titles, WCHA tourney titles or NCAA appearances. National Titles are all that matters and Hakstol has 0. If it wasn't for nepotism at UND he may already be gone. Get used to underachieving, since that is what this hockey team is all about. 3 goals in 2 games vs Yale and Niagra. Seriously that is not coming prepared for the NCAAs. Dave Wood oops I mean Dave O'Keefe oops I mean Dave Hakstol needs to be replaced. Win it all or the season is a bust. 9 straight busts in my book.
  10. Haula drafted in the 7th Round in 2009 by MIN. Fact checking is hard in the Internet age.......
  11. Is UND doing FTA Satellite broadcasts this year? If so does anyone know the coordinates?
  12. Who is running the USA teams in Ann Arbor? They seem to be turning out a ton of kids who don't honor their word and flee to Major Jrs in Canada. pretty classless group of kids in my opinion. Give kudos to Seth Jones though, he seems to be the only one who has shown true class on not making a commitment until he has made a decision. I have a lot of respect for that kid no matter what his decision is. Time for UND to stay away from the USA Hockey prospects.
  13. I think everyone understands that this is a NCAA issue and not a D1 issue. They would not be moving back to DII they would be moving to NAIA or sports such as Tennis, Baseball and other programs would be dropped. UND sports would be NCAA hockey, minus Wisconsin and Minnesota for Mens. Exciting!
  14. UND will not be able to continue as a Division 1 school as long as they are known as the Fighting Sioux. With NDSU, USD and SDSU all Division 1 schools, how can you justify a University falling behind because of a nickname? The consequences have started and the student athletes are paying the price for fools and their petitions!
  15. Will this be on FSSN? I have my FTA Dish up and would love to watch.
  16. I'll be unable to make the games due sadly. I live in the Twin Cities, so if could meet in person down here. Let me know if interested thom.kuznia@gmail.com or 651-236-0525. Thanks, Thom
  17. How about Roughnecks? It is original and can be related with North Dakota's Oil Boom. rough
  18. So does the name go away ASAP? What jerseys will the hockey team use this year? The name won't be able to be retired until at least Nov 7th when the bill passes giving power back to UND. Look at the brightside to all of this. The Gophers and Badgers won't be able to hide behind the nickname excuse when not scheduling UND.
  19. With all that is going on in college hockey a lot of things have become painfully obvious. 1. Minnesota did NOT want to leave the WCHA to go to the B1G conference, but was forced, since the other 5 schools (WI too) were pushing them. I don't blame them for leaving, since the B!G Ten is their conference for all other sports and they weren't going to leave the Big Ten. 2. North Dakota did what is best for them by leaving a weaker WCHA to join/start a new "Super Conference". 3. The WCHA will survive, but no longer be the dominant college hockey conference. Everyone can place blame on one another and say each school is greedy, but ALL schools are acting for the better interest of THEMSELVES! Minnesota and Wisconsin are leaving the WCHA to go to the BTHC for the televison contract and expanded national attention. They don't care about the SCSU, UMD, Kato or BSU and furthering their growth as hockey programs. If the U of M was really looking out for the BSUs of the world they would have played them more than once in the last 10 years in Bemidji, other than this past season. We'll see how they act when they need non-conference schedules filled out once their new BTHC league starts. All Minnesota and Wisconsin fans were laughing at the UND, DU and CCs of the world when they announced they were leaving the WCHA a few months ago. Now that UND, DU, CC, UNO and UMD are part of a "Super Conference" and also leaving the WCHA the Minnesota and Wisconsin fans are blaming them for the collapse of the WCHA. UND will worry about UND just as Minnesota worries about Minnesota. UND has a chance to create/join a "Super Conference" that will allow them to compete with the BTHC and possibly get a national TV deal. If Notre Dame joins the "Super Conference", then Vs. aka NBC Sports deal will become a better possiblity. NBC may have a say in ND joing the "Super Conference" if they want to add college hockey to their Vs. lineup, due to the existing NBC Football deal with ND. There is no question that college hockey is still a niche sport, if anyone has lived outside of ND or Minn for any part of their life they would know that DU vs UND would gather the same interest as UM vs UW in hockey. if Vs. wants to broadcast college hockey, they will have to grow an audience. Trust me when I say that even in Denver there aren't many people who care about DU. CC is more similar to UND where there is a strong local hockey base, but this is because they have no professional teams in the Springs. I know, since I lived there. The remaining WCHA schools will be fine, but the conference is weaker. UM, UW, UND, DU, CC and UMD have been the class of the WCHA for some time. That now will end in a couple years, but the SCSU, Kato, BSU and others will now have a better chance at moving up in the standings. The BTHC, HE and Super Conference are now the 3 major forces in college hockey. The have and have-nots have been labeled and there will be a lot of bitterness. All schools are doing what is best for them and their bottom lines. This is America and this is what happens. None of the schools leaving are looking out for anything other than #1 and as an American who can blame them.
  20. Not a good start for D1. Could be a tough year.
  21. Looking for 2 - 4 lower level tickets for the UND series in St. Cloud this weekend. I'm in the Minneapolis area, so I won't be able to pick them up in GF. I can pick them up in St. Cloud the day of the game or anytime in the Twin Cities. Thanks, Thom thom.kuznia@gmail.com
