  1. I loved hockey on ESPN and will miss Gary Thorne, John Buccicross, and Barry "Mullet" Melrose. However, I concur with AZSIOUX. It's gotta start somewhere and if it means me paying a few more on my cable bill, I'll do it. Maybe I can talk Comcast in Mpls/St Paul into ditching Oxygen and WE and lowering my bill. That would be great.
  2. chandler23, We've had a heated discussion or two, but this was a sincere post on your part. Thanks for your comments.
  3. You know, the ironic part about all this is that if Ralph had been a collector of Soviet WWII automobiles and memorabilia and had a portrait of one of the most notorious and ruthless dictators of all time (Josef Stalin) hanging in his office, no one would have cared. Would anyone have conducted an investigation then? Would the Nevada Gaming Commission been concerned? Not in the least.
  4. I couldn't disagree more. Marquette was the Warriors for quite a long time. Dwayne Wade said this past summer that he will always be a "Golden Eagle." Change the nickname, wait a few years, and every new fan coming into the arena forgets the past. How many Houston Texans fans still long for Earl Campbell and the Oilers? Indianapolis has been the Colts for what seems like forever, yet I still recall them being from Baltimore. Give it 10 or 20 years and when old-timers are gone, newcomers won't even remember the days of the Fighting Sioux.
  5. Thanks, Sprig. It's been a tough week, but seeing that clip brightened my day.
  6. That always happens. But that former players thread is too long anyways.
  7. Isn't that the truth? I attended a MSU game that season and honestly, it was a total sham the way Ron Mason and MSU protected Ryan Miller. The game I went to against UMass, a miscue to Miller behind the net led to an empty net goal and Miller was promptly yanked with about 9:00 to go in the game and MSU holding a 8 or 9-1 lead. The idea was to pad his goals against average. Several fans around me noticed my Sioux t-shirt and even said that it was a joke and that that wasn't the first time that Miller was removed in a blow-out after playing the majority of the game so he wouldn't give up a late meaningless goal. Panzer was robbed.
  8. Commodore Traded from Flames to Hurricanes
  9. I think Al Montoya has a brilliant NHL career ahead of him. After all, one just needs to look at how well Ryan Miller has fared in the NHL since he left Michigan State. Oh...wait...nevermind...
  10. If if's and but's were candy and nuts, there would be plenty of treats for all the kids.

The Owls, huh? Sounds like a new jersey needs to be added to my collection! Note the last paragraph of the article mentioned saying Minot State isn't even on D1's hockey radar.
  12. OK, OK, duly noted. However, Allan Iverson being arrested a few years ago for that whole assault-on-the-wife-she's-naked-outside-his-house-brandishing-a-weapon-while-looking-for-his-cousin fiasco netted him the #1 jersey in sales in the NBA within a few weeks after his arrest. On the flip-side, Kobe Bryant has taken a nose-dive in sales... I guess a lot just depends on the fans. For every sane person out there (me) who thinks Michael Jackson should rot in prison, there apparently are 50 idiots out there waving signs and freeing doves. I don't get it...
  13. Perhaps you should have been at Yankee Stadium for Jason Giambi's first at-bat of the season, PCM. He received what amounted to a standing ovation.
  14. I didn't think the bit on Maris was all that bad. I think talking with three legislators was a bit much and that perhaps ESPN should have focused on Roger Maris' exclusion from the Hall of Fame, but what can you do? Bad pub is better than no pub, right?
  15. Back to the topic...did anyone see the program? Pretty good, I thought, with some Sioux hockey highlights and Bison football highlights and lots of talk about Roger Maris. Then the bomb drops...Chris Berman referring to Phil Jackson's basketball days at Williston High School and North Dakota State University. The best part was that they picture Phil in not one, but TWO different photos with NORTH DAKOTA written squarely across his chest. Ugh. Also disappointing and I'm surprised no one mentioned it. If memory serves me right, wasn't Bill Fitch, long-time NBA coach, the head coach at UND while Phil Jackson was there?
  16. I like a lot of the rule changes too, redwing77 and I agree with you on the goalie rule. Pretty confusing, to say the least, for the goaltenders. It'd be like telling a defenseman he can't pinch up or else he risks a 2:00 penalty. An an NHL related note, has anyone seen the "new" NHL logo/shield?
  17. Nicely put, Sicatoka. I especially like the part about West Lafayette, Indiana. What a dump! Purdue U rocks, though.
