I don't believe he will. Again, I'm not defending the kid at all. But the issue was DU's tribute, not Paukovich's.
-
7>4, Should Paukovitch have put a big post up here to let everyone know he did call Robbie Bina? Maybe advertise it on a billboard in Grand Forks? Again, let's say Greene did it. How would you know if he made a call or not?
-
Not to play Devil's Advocate, but everyone seems to have a negative opinion on DU's "reaction." OK, let's imagine that it's Matt Greene making the hit in the DU game...what would you want UND's reaction to be?
-
It's a free country. If Jim builds it...they will come.
-
How do I get on Al's list? I agree...a stop-over in Mpls/St Paul would be worthwhile...
-
Yes, I agree, smoggycali, but it was something UND didn't have to do...Blais just did it. The problem I have with everyone ripping on DU and Gwoz is that whatever he and the team do, won't be enough in the eyes of some. I'm just giving them some credit.
-
Revenge would be sweet, too. Decisions, decisions... Frankly, while Cornell was a pretty big team, Ohio State was skating circles around them. I think Minny will win fairly easily today.
-
Sorry, guys, I prefer to err on the side of caution. The sooner the Gophers are eliminated, the better.
-
I know the BC/BU rivalry pretty well. BC fans would taunt BU w/signs reading "SUX to BU" while BU would chant "where's YOUR beanpot?" to BC ripping on the Eagles' lack of success in that tournament. That being said, assuming Denver can beat UNH tomorrow, all I can ask is... ...WHERE'S HOCKEY EAST?
-
Now that's funny.
-
I think Greene might use the extra week to heal up his butt after sitting on it in the penalty box for what seemed like 1/2 of tonite's game!
-
You're right on that, Dagies. I saw that too. All for one and one for all.
-
I'm tring to give Gwoz the benefit of the doubt, smoggycali. I'm hoping the reason he didn't address the issue is because he was awaiting hearing how the surgery went and the prognosis. I'm hoping anyways. PR move? I don't know if that's a PR move any moreso than the Sioux sporting WALSH jerseys in Maine a few years ago. It's a small gesture for sure, but I for one did think it was nice.

I know Denver has taken a lot of flack from people on this board and from me, especially after dealing with one of the hockey moms from the team last weekend. However, I did think it was worth pointing out that during today's game against Bemidji State, the cameras did show the back of a Denver helmet with green and white horizontal lines and a black #28 drawn thru it. I did think that that was a nice move by DU and I do give Gwoz credit for suspending Paukovich for today's game in addition to the suspension handed down by the WCHA for the Final Five championship game. That being said, Robbie Bina's attitude toward this whole incident has been unbelievable. Best of luck to you, Robbie!

As luck would have it, two tickets to Columbus arrived in my mailbox yesterday. I'm taking it as a sign..."if you win the region...I will come..."

I just wanted to thank Joe Senser's for being so accomodating to fans last night. I arrived a bit late (6:00 pm) and there were already tons of people watching basketball. After about 1/2 hour, a hostess moved my table from an area away from Sioux fans and put in a new table in the midst of the cheering. I felt like I was in Worcester. Thanks, Senser's. I'll be at Mariucci today along with siouxguyinstpaul sporting our Sioux jerseys and Maine hats cheering for 'da Black Bears. Hopefully PCM can have pics up by Monday. With any luck, we'll be back at Senser's tonite following the Cornell/Ohio State game. 01grad, missed ya last night. I hope your grandma is ok.
-
Yes it does, PCM. First, the Sioux knock out BU...then Michigan State takes out Duke in the NCAA basketball tournament. If UND beats BC today and Maine eliminates Minnesota, I'm taking it as a sign and buying a PowerBall ticket!
-
Holy cr*p! I know it's early...but if this holds up...I'd imagine the BU/UND winner would be licking their chops!
-
Yep, you know how they are...the top five sports upsets of all-time (as written by Gopher fans): #5) Jets/Colts Super Bowl III #4) Pistons/Lakers 2004 NBA Finals #3) North Carolina State over Phi Slamma Jamma 1983 #2) 1980 USA Olympic hockey team over Soviet Union And the #1 greatest upset or gimme-game of all time is... ...Ferris State over North Dakota 2003 NCAA hockey tournament first round? Cmon, WPoS, you can do better than that!
-
That Ferris State game was certainly a disappointing loss for UND, but it can't compare with the great Gopher choke up at UMD several years ago. I believe that was a 5 goal third period lead, right, WPoS?
-
Was that the Niagara/UNH game you are referring to, WPoS? I think that wound up 4-1 Niagara. All the UNH fans were sure they were gonna beat the Sioux and head to the Frozen Four. DOH!
-
This could go one of two ways in my book: Close game because BC is coasting or blow-out city. Niagara defeated a pretty good UNH team back in 2000. A few years ago, Mercyhurst gave Michigan all it could handle at Yost in a 4-3 loss. Even Holy Cross gave the Sioux fits last year. However, I think that's more along the lines of teams not giving those teams respect. BC won't make that mistake. 7-1 BC.

You know, you never know when and where Sioux fans will come out. Back in 2000, three-four friends of mine and I took the day off of work (all Sioux alums) and we met at Joe Senser's in Roseville for the 2:00 pm semi-final vs Maine. The bar was pretty quiet and in walks an older gentleman. He comes over to our table, introduces himself as a UND alum and big hockey fan and proceeds to turn to go sit at another table since we were all quite young by comparison and he didn't want to impose on our group. Nonsense, we said, and we all invited him to join us and he finally did. We had a great time sharing stories about the games we saw in college, on the road, and just having a great old time. The game ended and he asked us all for our e-mail and home addresses. The Sioux went on to win the NCAA title two days later and about a week after that, I came home to a package containing a Sioux poster, pennant, and an official game puck. I called one of the fans who saw that Maine game with me gloating about my luck and she said "don't be too cocky....I got the same thing." I won't write the person's name, but it again goes to show you the class, tradition, and pride that comes with being a Sioux hockey fan, school alumnus, or player. Thank you to the 2004-2005 players for carrying that torch. Regardless of what happens on the ice tonite, I know that through all of the disappointments, player injuries, and now a severe injury to a player this season, you left your hearts on the ice last weekend in St Paul and you will no doubt do that again tonite in Massachusetts. It's been a great run and 8th title this year or no 8th title, this team has proudly carried on that tradition.

What a fabulous quote by Andy Schneider and great follow-up by PCM. I'm glad my favorite sports team isn't the Timberwolves or anyone else where some multi-million dollar athlete whines about an organization not appreciating him and demands to be traded. Andy understands the pride and honor that 70 years of tradition brings...and I'm honored to be a fan of that tradition. I'll be wearing my Sioux jersey cheering tonite at Joe Senser's in Bloomington. And tomorrow, I'll be wearing my Sioux jersey and Maine hat at Mariucci booing the Gophers. Go Sioux!

What time are people getting to Senser's? If I didn't have a seminar tomorrow, I'd be there half the day watching the early games.
