I totally disagree! I think we've long moved on from the day when we expected athletes, entertainers, and politicians to be role models. I'm not surprised at all when I hear of the latest athlete being arrested for rape or leaping into the stands to start a fight. Nor am I surprised at prima-donnas who expect the world to roll out the carpet for them...people like the pompous Tom Cruise or Madonna herself. And politicians? C'mon.

I'd prefer to shorten that to read "soccer is for pansies" period. Imagine the Stanley Cup decided in a goal shoot-out where the shooters line up the puck about ten feet from the goalie and fire a slap shot. Absolutely ridiculous. Funny you should mention UL-M, PCM. Check out some of their new logos and wordmarks. Looks like it has all the requirements for politically-correct watered-down meaningless symbol, although with recent events in the world, I'm not sure having 'war' in the nickname is in good taste.

Given the serious eye injuries suffered by players in the past few years, maybe young kids are taking notice. I think you'll see plenty of kids in the not-too-distant future wearing eye protection because of younger stars like Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin already doing so. It's one thing for the fringe players to wear a visor, cage, or full shield, but once top players wear them, it'll become 'the thing to do.' Kinda like ballet tights in the NBA.

Hey mikejm, don't I deserve a little kudos for being the first person on this thread to bust out the "Alexander Daigle" comparison?

This thread has gotten a bit off-topic, but I think the comparisons from rival fans will always be there, much like the Vanek vs Parise who's better discussions. Both Toews and Kessel are obviously very talented and I agree with other posters, no one will know until 4-5 years from now who was the better selection. For every Steve Yzerman picked, there are a dozen Patrick Stefans or Alexander Daigles.
