  1. and doggone-it, Motley Crue does it again..."Home Sweet Home"...when the words "power and "ballad" come out of someone's mouth, the first thought in my head is this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DasvuHUgUHg
  2. #2 - should have probably been on the hair band list with "Gypsy Road" but nothing wrong with being 1st runner-up in the power ballad category...Cinderella and "Don't Know What You Got ('Til It's Gone)...
  3. #3 - Maybe not a true power ballad in the sense of what you normally think of as a power ballad...but damn, it's on my list anyways...Def Leppard's "Hysteria" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaiaaar88EM
  4. #4 - Honeymoon Suite's "What Does It Take?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaELZ5q6Y7M
  5. How about the top five power ballads of that era? The catch is that you have to be a big-hair band so, sorry, R*E*O Speedwagon fans, you don't count... #5 - it's Enuff Z' Nuff's "Fly High Michelle"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyNDJ_cSK3E
  6. The Def Leppard slight is pretty bad...that's a big oversight on my part.
  7. and number 1...Motley Crue and Kickstart My Heart - no further words needed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4aob4zlhIk
  8. #2 - I know "Jump" and "Panama" got more air-time, but this Van Halen song had it all - Eddie's guitar playing at its best and the bombastic David Lee Roth in his hey-day..."Hot for Teacher"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4GZFbCqx18
  9. #3..."Up All Night" by Slaughter...another group hitting the tail-end of the hair band era...ear-piercing guitars and drumsticks flying all over. What's not to like? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Za0gWXJW1w
  10. #4...Some might say "Cum on Feel the Noise" is a better song, but you can't top Quiet Riot's Metal Health. What other song has a whole concept that came about after its release that stands the test of time today? You might not remember the Michael Jackson moon-walk, but you know how to BANG YOUR HEAD! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mel7Ff4d7IM
  11. #5 - No video needed because if you don't know who The Scorpions are and don't know the song "Rock You Like a Hurricane," well, there's just no hope... I'm editing this because this band needs to be here somewhere... it's a tie at #5...Ratt's Round and Round...this song absolutely blew it up in 1984...KFYR in Bismarck played this that summer...I'm not sure they've ever recovered.
  12. #6...every time this song comes up on my iPod while I'm driving, I suddenly find myself doing about 80 mph's and not paying attention because I'm too busy playing the air drums...this was 1992, the end was near for hair metal..."Nonstop to Nowhere" by Faster Pussycat...
  13. Those really are sweet. Jersey perfection with those. And Michigan State's jerseys have sucked for a long time!
  14. #7...I know lots of people thought KISS jumped the shark in the 1980's...but this song was a heavy metal staple - "Heaven's on Fire"
  15. #8 has already been posted...Uncle Tom's Cabin by Warrant. This song really showcased Jani Lane's musical talent as opposed to the record-industry favorite "Cherry Pie."
  16. 3-0 Michigan over Wisconsin...payback time I guess. Michigan's new yellow jerseys with contrasting name-plates on the back are a bit much. Yuck. I see the Spartans busted out a nice throwback look last weekend - diagonal SPARTANS...very nice.
  17. #9...a bit of a surprise for most folks, but this one had me hooked the first time I ever heard Marq Torien scream out the opening line...Smooth Up in Ya...whatever that means...
  18. Coming in at number 10...Lynch Mob's "Tangled in the Web." This one's got it all...the horn section...snakes...and fire...great song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcEQ7knEUA4
  19. OK, so on the drive home I wondered what I would do between periods of hockey on B10 Network tonight, then it hit me...since I can't get Uncle Tom's Cabin out of my head (thanks, Blackheart), I thought it was time for a trip down memory lane...ladies and gentlemen...I give you...the top 11 hair band songs of 1982-1992 as decided upon by me (and there will be a few surprises): Coming in at number 11...an a$$-kickin' classic that says it all about 1980's hair rock...screechin' guitars...drums...girls in the crowd...yea...Autograph's Turn up the Radio!
  20. Michigan up 2-0 on Wisconsin...back-to-back goals in the first period, including a nice breakaway goal.
  21. That Martin St Louis guy turned out to be quite a find for Tampa Bay too...he wasn't exactly a number 1 draft pick.
  22. I'll admit...this commercial bit does make me like Peyton Manning... I like Western Michigan over UMD tonight and Nebraska-Omaha to beat St Cloud State.
  23. Wow. How many of those are still around today? District 29, Region 8: New England Tigers New England St Mary's Saints (defunct) Golva Tigers (defunct - school torn down I believe and kids bus to Beach) Beach Buccaneers South Heart Eagles (combined with Belfield - now the Heart River Cougars) Belfield Bantams (combined with South Heart - now the Heart River Cougars) No to Fighting Pit Bulls.
  24. Hayduke, I don't know why, but ever time I see Peyton Manning, I can't help but think of this movie scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2ryuHF4yl8 Opie Taylor? I ain't your Opie Taylor! 'Cuz Peyton Manning looks like an Opie Taylor.
  25. That would be a nice twist on the outdoor games, right?
