    I was in a food fight once and got hit in the eye with a potato...now I wear a glass eye. I would be traumatized by such a nickname...heck, I break out in a cold sweat just driving by the Simplot plant. It's a good suggestion, but I think it'll be shot down by the nickname committee. Also on the great nickname list: The Kenmare Honkers and the Bowbells Eskimos (who are now known as the Burke County Titans?).

    I think you mean the town of Flasher, which is the Bulldogs. The University of North Dakota Storm Kings...I like it. The problem is, you'd also need to be the University of North Dakota Storm Queens, so that nickname will never work.

    I had the name right? Towner Cardinals? No town and nickname better than the Starkweather Storm Kings. Loved that one. Elgin Dutchmen was pretty cool too.

Let's imagine Hakstol coached that WCHA 5th place Sioux team of 2005 all the way to the NCAA title. You're telling me your opinions of the past year or so wouldnt change at all from what they are now because of that win almost 9 years ago? I'm saying that if those Gopher records were Hakstol's, your opinions would be EXACTLY the same as they are now. In fact, I can already hear the "yea, but those were all Blais' recruits" comments about the lone title year...

    That's not entirely true. I think pretty much everyone here would be happy with 13 straight NCAA titles - but gfhockey would want the hammer put down on Hakstol if North Dakota didn't make the NCAA's in year 14.

    I used to attend basketball camps all the time with the Schmitz boys from Golva - Jeremy and Jason. You couldn't help but cheer for those guys.

    Never said 'hot' goalie - I was criticizing North Dakota's own goaltending. Give up FIVE in an NCAA semi-final and you're on the WINNING team? Shouldn't happen.

    With all due respect, it's not Hakstol's fault that his goalie couldn't stop a beach ball in three straight Frozen Four games against BC. The 2006 and 2007 squads played hard in those two respective games but were constantly being deflated by shoddy goaltending. 2006: 6-5 2007: 6-4 2008: 6-1 The 2008 game was a debacle, nothing less. I think it was obvious that the ghosts of 2006 and 2007 got into the heads of the rest of team (as opposed to just the guy in net) at that point. My memory is fuzzy, although I watched all three games live. Who was/were the Sioux goalie(s) and BC goalie(s) for that three-year stretch?
