So based on the Bills losing four Super Bowls, the AFC East sucked in the 1990's? I wouldn't call the CCHA a 'weak' conference based on two teams losing national championship games in recent memory.
-
Ferris State had a heckofa team that gave BC all it could handle in the title game just a couple of years ago...and Miami would be the home of a national champion if it wasn't for that epic collapse against BU a few years prior to that.

That girl is from Boston. DaveK hates her.
-
They're a solid 8-0 in conference play.
-
It's not as bad as it sounds, NDH. Originally, Jim Delany wanted the team captains to hug and exchange flower bouquets after every game but the athletic directors voted down that idea.

I'd take our year over Tech's and LSSU's...

Any team playing 8 games non-conference games against Atlantic Hockey teams doesn't have much of a defense to the 'strength of schedule' argument. OK, so OSU did play Minnesota tough two weeks ago, what does that prove? Ferris State was tough in the CCHA the last couple of seasons. Because they have a different conference logo on their jerseys now means they suck?

You're kidding me, right? Ohio State's 14 wins this year include: 2 against Robert Morris 2 against Niagara 2 against Canisius College 2 against Mercyhurst Seriously, Ohio State should consider raising an Atlantic Hockey Conference Champions banner next fall inside Value City Arena! Their other 6 wins are against Bowling Green, UMD, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Penn State (2). Please tell me you don't think that THAT résumé makes Ohio State NCAA tournament-selection material.

8-13-4 (Big 10) 14-25-3 (CCHA) 19-16-4 (CCHA) 15-19-4 (CCHA) 19-13-6 (CCHA) 10-23-5 (CCHA) Yea, the Spartans really lit up the CCHA in the five seasons leading up to this year's Big 10 move... Multiple national titles? Yea, Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State have a bundle of them themselves...how are their programs doing lately?

I'd gladly listen to any washed up 1980's hair band over any 1990's pissed-off-at-the-world grunge band... "I wish that I could eat your cancer when it turns black"? Yuck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6P0SitRwy8

Foreigner and Styx will be at Moon Dance Jam?

I do give Penn State some credit, smokey. They have the financial backing and facilities to be a good Big 10 hockey program. Contrast that with Ohio State, who would prefer to eliminate the men's and women's hockey programs altogether and instead spend that money on new third jerseys and helmet stickers for the football team!
-
Glad I could make you chuckle!
-
But Mariucci and other Gopher fans would prefer to see Big 10 hockey expansion. Can you imagine the intensity of a Minnesota/Rutgers college hockey game on a Tuesday night in New Brunswick? Or an Ohio State/Indiana hockey battle royale in Columbus on a Thursday? Maryland/Michigan State? There is NO WAY 70-some years of North Dakota/Minnesota could replicate potential future Big 10 rivalries like that!
-
Well, enjoy Big 10 hockey now. Hopefully it is as fun as a watered-down football and basketball conference once Rutgers and Maryland join the party.

AA was added by agreement between the CCHA and WCHA. Each league had to take one of the Alaska schools. You Minnesota homers can't have it both ways. On one hand, it's "pat pat my back, we have more D1 schools than anyone...more kids in the state playing hockey...North Star Challenge Cup...great tradition in the entire state..." and on the other hand its "Bemidji and Mankato suck and don't even deserve to be playing schools the calibre of the Gophers...St Cloud is terrible...watered-down league...UMD can't hold a candle to the Gopher program..". Which way do you want it?

The 2005 Frozen Four in Columbus was a hoot. Every Ohio State fan I saw walking around campus had absolutely NO IDEA that the NCAA Frozen Four was being played that weekend. Several I talked to thought fans were in town to see the Buckeye spring football practice. Hockey fever in Big 10 Country.

I coach 10 and 11 year old baseball kids in fall league (August-October). Each year, I deal with kids who are playing football and baseball for all three months and when October rolls around, most are playing football four days a week, have baseball practice once a week plus games on Sunday afternoons, and then basketball clinics on Sunday nights after baseball. It's insanity.

Towner Cardinals? Didn't they make an appearance in the state tournament in the 1980's somewhere?

I'd rather serve time in a Soviet prison-camp as opposed to enroll in a dance class.

I'll spot you the fact that I was wiped out from a late-night on Wednesday night. Dead crowd...dim lights in the Kohl Center...neutral zone trap...it was the perfect storm...zzzzzz....

Wasn't it 2005 or 2006 when Alaska-Anchorage made the Final Five for the first time ever? I know UND defeated them in the semi-finals and their goalie was totally robbed of all-tournament team honors. Pretty sure it was the Blake Wheeler year when Minnesota won the title. It was awesome watching A-A take the ice for the Thursday game...standing ovation from all the fans in attendance as the Seawolves were welcomed to the Final Five for the first time. That was pretty cool. You couldn't help but cheer for them. But I'm sure the Big 10 Hockey Tournament will have memories just as good as that one...

The 1986-87 WCHA consisted of this: North Dakota Minnesota Denver Wisconsin Northern Michigan Colorado College Michigan Tech Minnesota Duluth North Dakota and Minnesota were the only teams above .500 in the league that year. And you're complaining about a watered-down league AFTER that?
-
Yea, I'm sure that Thursday night Gopher/Wisconsin game was a ratings bonanza for the Big Ten Network. I watched about 15 minutes of the first period...and almost dozed off. Literally.
