I agree with you, in principle, but floor, court, and field logos have gone by the wayside since the 1990's due to the supposed "disrespect" of standing on it. Nothing more stupid than having a giant logo on a floor cordoned off so everyone has to walk around it - (see also: Justin Bieber and Chicago Blackhawk Stanley Cup). Just dumb.

Minnesota's "Gopher State" won out in a battle with folks who wanted to go with "Beaver State." Wisconsin isn't named "The Badger State" because of the amount of actual badgers in the state - the name caught on due to miners in the 1800's digging holes while looking for lead and even living in them in the winter, which made people liken them to badgers.

Leave it to 82SiouxGuy to throw in a semi-snarky comment while taking an opposing viewpoint on anything I write. I swear, if I typed a lengthy post on David Berkowitz and his cold-blooded 1970's killing spree, you would find a way to rebut that with a positive story on the Son of Sam not being such a bad guy. Despite being the "Wolverine State," the only recorded sighting of an actual Wolverine in Michigan in recent history was ten years ago. Before that, we're talking 1800's. I'm unaware of any Spartan sightings in the state - they seem to be far more difficult to spot. And, yes, California's state animal is the bear. Seen one in Los Angeles recently?

I don't understand the group of folks who think that having the word "north" appear in the school name AND the nickname is an OK idea... NORTH Dakota NORTHern Lights? NORTH Dakota Warriors of the NORTH? Really? As much as the Nokota horse is cool, is a combination of "North" and "Dakota" in the nickname the best we can offer? And is it Nokota or Nokotas? Nokoti?

I was being facetious...lots of long-time Blackhawks fans on the board here but an equal number of newbies who jumped on-board after Toews joined the team and won his first Stanley Cup. As for me, I'm just an old fuddie duddie Red Wings fan who still can't get over seeing Detroit lose game 7 at home to Pittsburgh in 2009...

I said it a long time ago...there's an infinitely better chance of Toews bringing the cup to SSM in Faribault than there is of him ever bringing it to GF. Best bet for a return visit to the area would be Oshie and Warroad.

Michigan State had plenty of empty seats when the school hosted Minnesota last year - win and the Spartans clinched a B10 championship game berth. The defending Rose Bowl champs didn't even sell out last weekend's Homecoming game. The media and ABC were practically giddy while showing downtrodden home fans and empty rows of bleachers last weekend at Michigan Stadium. I guess it becomes a point of emphasis when the home team is losing.

Michigan rumored to be looking for a new AD... SMU rumored to be interested in Mack Brown as head coach...
