So how many committee folks are of the anti-Sioux crowd? I thought the objective was helping pick a name everyone can be proud of? Is it possible that the nickname was really so unimportant that anti-Sioux nickname folks really couldn't care less what the new name is?

Not sure how I missed reporting this incident from last weekend, but did anyone else catch the Texas/UCLA coin toss? UCLA wins the toss and defers to the 2nd half. Tank Johnson promptly tells referee that Texas will kick off to start the game. The referee actually turns OFF his microphone and tries explaining to Tank what's happening. Tank doesn't budge...Texas kicks off. And then UCLA elects to receive the ball again in the second half. D'oh!

I think the yellows are different and it's nice to see the three Pittsburgh teams all wearing the same colors again. I like it.

I was in the area there around 5-10 years ago and incorrectly assumed that Alexander must have closed. I was surprised to see it still open.

Golva closed in the late 1980's/early 1990's...students now go to Beach. NESM closed sometime in the mid 1990's...Belfield and South Heart High Schools remain separate but co-op as the Heart River Cougars. Beach and New England remain.

Are the others co-ops now or did they simply close?

Came across a 1988 Region 8 Tournament program in my garage... District 29: South Heart 1 New England 2 District 30: Glen Ullin 1 Center 2 District 31: New Leipzig 1 Elgin 2 District 32: Scranton 1 Bowman 2 Scranton defeated South Heart for 3rd Place and Glen Ullin defeated New Leipzig for the regional title.

District 29 had only 6 back in my day. I think I remember some complaints about the small number and it being easier to advance to Regionals. Golva closed and District 29 was left with only 5 teams.

8 teams in the district? Wow! I kind of assumed all districts had 6 teams.
