I was told that the women's hockey team was literally pulled off the ice and notified that their funding was being re-directed towards a new logo. Any truth to that rumor?

There is no apostrophe needed in the plural form of the word jersey, but I digress... If Toews was traded to the Penguins tomorrow morning, DaveK and kevad would both have a slew of new friends on this board by lunchtime.

Careful...that could open up the doors for Minnesota to get their first-ever verbal commit from that age group.

We’re all familiar with the 2:00 power play and the 5:00 major. Up until the 1956 season in the NHL, players receiving 2:00 penalties stayed in the box the whole 2:00, regardless of how many goals were scored. How much of an impact has that decision had on the game in the last 60+ years? I could totally envision the current generation of casual fans pushing the envelope for ideas on evolving the game further. If we love 3x3 OT so much because it creates so much open space and more scoring chances, why isn’t the game played that way ALL the time? I won’t tell you why myself but you can go watch an old NHL All-Star game where the scores were 17-14 or 16-13 and find out for yourself. BORING!

Maybe the goalies could go back to brown goalie gear and everyone could wear wool jerseys, too! No, thanks.

So the players are bigger, stronger, and faster than ever and take up more space than ever. After completely messing with OT and moving it from 5x5 to 4x4 and now 3x3, you don’t suppose it’s crazy to think the NHL might view taking another guy off the ice full-time in regulation to, you know, increase scoring chances.

C'mon, Goon, wbo is on the ice in 3x3 OT, the grind line? No, it's the scorers. So, if someone down the road pots 50 goals in 38 games and "beats" Wayne Gretzky's record of fastest to 50 goals -- and any of those goals were scored in 3x3 OT -- you're damn right I think there should be an asterisk on that "new record."

SHOOTOUTS ARE AN ABOMINATION!

While not exactly happy about it, Goon was in fact retained as the special shootout situation volunteer coach.

A) The preliminary rounds determine who makes the medal round. Losing in a shoot-out in a mini-tournament has a significant effect on who advances and who doesn't. B) It happens often in the preliminary rounds because lesser-talented teams are TRYING to get to the shootout instead of attempting to win the game outright. Kind of like soccer teams sandbagging in the hopes of getting to penalty kicks. Shootouts are an abomination!

Taking nothing away from TJ Oshie and his success rate in the shootout in this game, reducing an Olympic hockey game to a one man vs one goalie event to decide the outcome is nothing short of a total abomination.

Yes, because being hauled down on a clean breakaway with 9 other skaters and 2 goalies on the ice with you during the course of a game is the same thing as a completely uncontested goal-scoring attempt with only the opposing goalie trying to stop you from earning your team an extra point in "OT." Talk about strawman...

I hear that the new Under Armour material makes skaters .0005 of a second faster in shootout dekes though...
