Their enrollment must be down then? Google says around 11,000 for 2016

This post shows you how much things have changed since 2016.  What else has changed since that year?

Me thinks that jimdahl got an offer he couldn't refuse.  Horse head in bed to throw the results?

    Uh…that uh…little “situation” we discussed about @jimdahl?  Yea…it’s uh…been taken care of.

When will the commemorative trinkets be for sale?

As soon as I get done planning the parade route, I’ll move on to commemorative items such as pucks, t-shirts, and ball caps.

  4. Wow, wow, wow!  First and foremost, I’d like to thank God for the opportunity to make this happen.  WOW, so many people to thank…my brain, probably, for finally going against what my heart told me to do in picking UND to win every previous year.  My boys, couldn’t have done this without their support too.  @jimdahl, for running such a great message board and contest every year.  @Blackheart, @Goon, @NorthDakotaHockey, @Oxbow6, and all the fans I’ve met over the years.  Oh, @Wilbur, wouldn’t even be here without your support too.  My mom, hope she’s watching back home in Fairfield.  The Denver Pioneers for making it all happen.  I believed in you even during that tough opening matchup against UMass!  Couldn’t have done it without you guys!  My cat, ESPN, I could go on and on…

Carle did his homework over the 48 hours between games. There were a half dozen plays where BC passed on the grade A for a tap in attempt and DU never flinched, taking away the easy goal. Davis also Hunswick'd 'em.

That’s a slap at Davis for sure.  UND’s mostly-weak shots on goal against Michigan in 2011 paled in comparison to some of the BC attempts on Saturday evening.

Food for thought using the Frozen Four teams this year.

David Carle (DU), 34 years old - 3 Frozen Fours in 4 seasons.

Brandon Naurato (Mich), 39 years old - 2 Frozen Fours in 2 seasons.

Jay Pandolfo (BU), 49 years old - 2 Frozen Fours in 2 seasons.

Greg Brown (BC), 56 years old - 1 Frozen Four in 2 seasons.

Brad Berry (UND), 59 years old - 1 Frozen Four in 8 seasons.

**2020 season omitted in statistics since tournament was cancelled

The younger hires of David Carle and Brandon Naurato have both shown to be successful hires so far.  Pandolfo is younger now than Berry was when he was hired.  Greg is of similar age to Brad, but has shown he is able to provide elite recruiting.  There's no agenda to push here, just some interesting tidbits to note.  Maybe having a younger head coach wouldn't be such a bad thing.  Maybe just having a fresh face can spark new life into the program.  Maybe none of it matters and you just need a good coach.  But, combined, the four of those coaches have 8 Frozen Four appearances in their 10 collective seasons while UND hasn't been to one in 8 years.  Not only that, we've only won one NCAA tournament game since then.

Pffft.  How many Penrose Cups have those other coaches won though?

And yet Denver is going to the Frozen Four again not us.  If it's not recruiting that only leaves one other thing.

Yep, good job, Watson!  It’s obviously bad puck luck!

Talent (BC) almost got outworked (Q).

You could say the same for DU twice.  Everyone NOT named North Dakota apparently has puck luck.

2017 loss to BU. Like 2023, 2019 was another year Bubs failed to get to Fargo. Not to be confused with 2021 and 2017, where Bubs failed to get out of Fargo.

Good grief my memory is getting bad.  Or there are so many first round losses and tournament misses that it’s hard to keep track!

Are you referring to the 2011 team that also lost to Michigan in the tourney, but by two goals?

Interesting how some are forgetting the number of disappointments Hakstol had in the Frozen Four.  For instance, his teams repeatedly got outclassed by Boston College.  Everyone I saw at the game from GF at the FF game in Milwaukee knew the game was over after one period.

Hak could get his teams rolling in the second half of the season until the Frozen Four.

It was a tough loss against a good team last night.  Not an embarrassment by any means.  On to next year.

The 2nd goal was an empty-netter.

We get credit for the black banner year?;)

I’m starting to think it might be in Berry’s best interest to promote that particular banner-raising ceremony…

Yeah in 1989.  There can be a Cinderella.  Those 3 teams won on what a 4 year span.  These teams like Union, Yale, Providence and QU just to name some 15 years ago were teams you were hoping to play in the tournament as they were a cakewalk to the next round.  Now it seems like anyone can win and the proverbial cakewalk doesn't exist anymore(unless it is UND:D).

I picked one year off if memory.  Michigan State in 2007 is another good example.  I don’t think there’s any more “parity” now than there was 20 years ago.  Hell, Holy Cross happened way back in 2006 now…

  13. I need to correct an error in regards to UND since 2016.  The team is 1-4 in NCAA Regional Tournament games since then, not 1-5.

    2017:  loss to BU

2021:  win vs AIC, loss to UMD

    2022:  loss to Notre Dame

    2024:  loss to Michigan

Parity was just starting to set in when Hak left.  Teams like Yale, Providence and Union were starting to get players they never would have a decade or two ago and win.  Some of Haks teams would have been buried by Jan and never recovered to make the tournament today.

Oh please.  Not a single program recruited Shayne Gostisbehere and he stuck with Union because they were the first one to make him an offer.  I’m also old enough to remember a no-name Harvard team beating Minnesota’s Pride on Ice in St. Paul in 1989 so spare me talk of revisionist history of the Hakstol era being exaggerated to “parity” today.  Hak had his teams firing on all cylinders come tournament time while Berry’s squads are always out of gas.  And that’s not an anomaly now, it’s a full-blown pattern with Berry.

Every 8 season's, the Engelstad arena red-light therapy beds, cryochamber, steam room, nap room, private chef making three meals a day, etc, produce 1 playoff win against the American International’s of the college hockey world.

    Seems worth it.

Clearly more hot tubs and pool tables are needed.

Yet somehow it’s always us that gets paritied round 1.

BINGO.  It’s only seemingly occurred since the 2016-2017 season.  Well, technically 2018-2019 because UND missed the tournament the two years prior to that.  I just can’t put my finger on what the link is…

Sorry, parity is real. 6 of 8 games decided by 1 goal. 6 of 8 games that could have gone either way. 3 of 8 games ended in OT.
The NCHC plays tough hockey, but 3 of 4 NCHC teams in the tournament are already headed home. Denver is the only quarterfinals survivor, and Massachusetts played Denver even.

    Parity is real.

And this parity you speak of…only started in the fall of 2016?
