* Nodaks, * Flickertails, its all the same school. If Gersich wants to say Sioux on twitter or FB or whatever thats fine, its free speech. But putting on a jersey with a Hawk on it, and stepping out on the ice with the hawk logo, seeing fans with Hawk jerseys will be a reality check. If people think no one will buy a Hawk jersey, just think people bought UND jerseys with no Sioux logo on it after the name was retired.

Thank you for your service. But unfortunately its over. It was over when Standing Rock said no due to the settlement agreement agreed upon by the NCAA and ND AG Wayne Stenehjem. The name has been retired for 5 years now, and isn't coming back. Protests aren't going to bring it back. The road to the Sioux nickname and logo is closed, the school has a nickname and logo that is compliant with the NCAA and thats the way its gonna be.

It's that way on social media. Someone posts go Hawks only to have the usual Go Sioux reponse. I guess Hawk cheers are only allowed at the Alerus and the Betty. Just wait until a recruit wears Hawk gear and gets weird looks, or someone says something negative about the logo, how long will this hatred for the new name/logo last?

I don't think the REA will start a war with Kennedy, something will be done, maybe a Fighting Hawks yard sign in front of the building.

I'm not saying they are going to rip down Sioux logos, but if Kennedy is pushing this logo agenda pretty hard to get the city of GF to allow a Hawk logo on its building, what says we won't see Hawks in the REA. Just remember 2030 UND takes control of the building, then it will be up to the president to see what to do with the logos, as the Sioux name and logo will be retired for 18 years and the Hawk logo will be in presence for 13 years. You can only hold on to the past for so long before the present takes over.

You don't think Kennedy will pressure the REA to add Hawks to the building. The Alerus was untouched from 2001-until a couple weeks ago, now a big Hawk logo on the building and talks of it on the field. Remember, GF owns that building not UND. Hawk logos all over campus including the IPF, you think the REA will be untouched in his (Kennedy's) campaign to make that logo visible everywhere, especially where sports are played. Maybe the logos will be on the shoulder, but that ice will definitely have Hawk logos...just look at what we saw in Fargo.

It would be great to a game with the SD schools and Omaha. Then when we go to the SL, get an OOC game with the Big Sky schools.

I can't wait til this fall to buy a Fighting Hawks hockey jersey, and to see the Hawk logo on the ice.

Why is putting a Hawk on the ice or jersey the worst thing? What are fans gonna do stop showing up? There are plenty of people that will gladly take their seats. The best thing they can do is implement the Hawk logo in that building because die hard Sioux forever fans see that building as a Sioux sanctuary that will be untouched with Hawk logos as it's surrounded by Sioux logos. The longer it takes for Hawk logos to not be in that building the more divided this fan base will be.

I thought UMKC was re-joining the SL? Also would the SD board let SDSU split away from USD once again? I don't think NDSU is going anywhere, as for SDSU I think they are staying as long as SF continues to be the entrance way to the dance.

Maybe if they win the NC they will wave the Hawk banner. There was no logo at the time of the 2016 NC. Plus it is the hockey team, the last sport to incorporate the name and logo so why not wave a Sioux banner.

I wonder if we will hear the screeching Hawk sound after each touchdown again, or if they will expand it to 3rd downs, all scoring, etc.

I am glad the Big 12 doesn't follow the FCS ban like the Big 10. They were afraid of the ass kicking their teams were getting.

Don't forget the constant protests and letters by BRIDGES, Indian tribes, and others, anytime someone dressed like an Indian, or had some stupid t-shirt, or did the tomahawk chop. All that is wiped out with the new name and logo. Its sad that the Sioux name/logo ended like it did but that part of UND history is closed and the Fighting Hawk part of UND history is just beginning. I remember the Potato Bowl someone yelled "Let's go Sioux" it lasted 5 seconds and was never heard from again. It seems like the REA is the last place where they want to keep the Sioux name alive, and the most vocal anti-Hawk fanbase we have. Maybe year after year it will change but the REA will have to majorly step up in accepting the Hawk name. Starting with the ice, jerseys, merchandise, PA. Instead of "Here's your UND scoring", try Here's your University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks Scoring". Who cares if the crowd boos when its announced. Say it over, and over and over. They will sound more and more stupid by booing.
