You mean Central Michigan.

Keep basketball in the Betty.

A part of the Sioux family? I didn't know he played in 2012.
-
Anytime after now. The people bitching about the loss to WH don't go to the games, and don't understand economics. So announce it and get ready for off-season recruiting.
-
Tell us a good time to say the program will be cut? Mid season? Before the first game of last season?
-
Maybe Ed Schafer should have cut it last year with baseball then no one would be talking about it now. This time next year women's hockey won't be missed.
-
That would get them a bucket of pucks.

Football isn't going anywhere. If our attendance reaches women's hockey level (800-1000) then cut it.- 2,150 replies

Holy crap!!! I am sure Minnesota will look at this if they need to save money somewhere.

http://www.ncaa.com/news/icehockey-women/article/2017-01-16/womens-hockey-no-1-wisconsin-shatters-ncaa-attendance-record That's support. http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=209879521&DB_OEM_ID=13500 Tickets $1.00 and less than half of the REA was packed. That is not support.

Yes and no. We won it in 2001, and then lost a close one in 2003. Maybe after 1963 UND should have canned men's hockey since it took 17 years to win another title, or after 2000 since it took 16 years to win a title. A lot of factors go to winning a championship good recruiting class, playing the right teams, and having the best luck on the field/court/ice. Women's hockey was doomed as can be shown by the attendance and since Grand Forks has to combine the high schools to field a team, not many girls are into it as one may think.

Someone is irritable, were you one of the 800 people at the playoff game against Ohio State?

Cuts now will benefit the school in the long run. I am also excited for the future of UND athletics, we don't have the transition problem, the nickname problem (NCAA related), and now financial problem. Get all that crap out of the way and enjoy the long road to conference and national titles.- 2,150 replies

Maybe if checking was part of the game it would draw more attention. I watched the twins in the olympics and it was exciting but trying to watch a UND game on tv was very painful, dull and boring. The action was worse than a high school game.

But the poor girls are devastated, and the hundreds of fans that attend the games are really upset. People on FB don't realize the savings, and only see a new sport that needs to grow, and produces a lot of great Olympians.- 2,150 replies

Exactly. No more cutting sports, lets focus the money issue on the major sports like salaries for example (men's basketball for sure).
-
You do know we are moving to the MVFC not the SEC.
-
Hilarious when we win the conference in year one?
-
Wait 6 months when hockey season starts up. UND will win with the Hawk logo on the ice.

It would be beautiful to support the athletes on the field and the school as a whole. If you don't like the school just because of a name then support a different school/team. The University of North Dakota is a beautiful school with a lot of good programs, its only gotten better from the days of the Nodaks/Flickertails to present day. Having the Sioux name retired doesn't change anything from that. Our teams are still winning titles, the graduation rate is still very high and nowhere near the problems Alcorn State has with grades. If you are that gung ho on getting the Sioux name back drive out to Ft. Yates, ND and talk to the Standing Rock Sioux tribal council and demand they give permission for UND to use the name and logo because without their support the issue is as dead as it was in 2010 (original settlement date), and 2012 (retired after the nickname state law was repealed). Go to the games, yell go Sioux if you wish, you are not required to buy any Hawk gear, and cheer UND to victory.
-
Someone would post on FB a petition to bring the Sioux name back. A lot of people were pissed at anyone accepting the new name. I just have to say if you don't want to see a Fighting Hawk on the ice don't go to the games. I am sure a lot of people would love to snatch up those tickets. Attendance will not falter due to a name change. It's the performance in the ice that makes a difference.

It proved how open Bubba was to the change and the grudge Berry still holds, also with the football team you hear "go Hawks" at basketball games, from the hockey players you see then with a Sioux banner. What's gonna happen when you have some players keeping that grudge and some embracing the new name in the locker room and on the ice? You end up with the same crap fans are dealing with on social media, message boards and in public.

Pretty much sums up the difference between hockey and football: http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/3885568-und-sports-players-coaches-say-culture-wont-change-new-nickname

Must have been laundry day that day and his favorite non Hawks clothes was not available for it. I have never seen him wear it during interviews and if you google his name, and look at the pics there isn't any. Google Bubba Schweigert and he is immediately seen wearing Hawks gear. Bubba has embraced the name/logo, Berry isn't going to accept it as much as Bubba, and neither is the hockey community.
