Board member Grant Shaft told the board today that, upon further questioning of Faison, he understands that there are two opportunities for UND to apply to join the league, once early in March when league members meet by telephone and once in June when they meet in person. The June meeting is the more critical one, Shaft said, though Faison still maintained that the sooner the nickname is dealt with the better. Obviously Faison didn't tell the board this back in October. Why did he hide this??

Board member Michael Haugen of Fargo made a motion to direct UND President Bob Kelley to begin retiring the nickname. Typical Bison fan. The motion failed after no one seconded the motion. People with common sense.

Too close to November 30th. And with Faison wanting the Summit League i don't know if the board will wait that long.

The NCAA doesn't care, they settled thats that. Attny Gen. Wayne Stenjeum is the one that f-cked up the settlement. He should have fought harder and should have agreed to one tribe's name or perhaps looking to change it to another tribe in the state, but he wanted to end it as soon as possible. He is a joke and the worst attorney ever. The NCAA won't change the settlement so its either both tribes or bust.

I miss the Winnipeg Jets, i still wear my Jets jersey. I hope they get a team.

If UND beat a #1 seed then yes it would bring more recognizion but just getting there and losing like NDSU did. People are NOT going to remember who you are.

Actually with UND on FCS i would say either Sioux hockey, Sioux basketball or Sioux football. NDSU was on tv for 2 hrs way back in March that was 11 months ago!!

I don't know if this has been suggested but what about the Fighting Dakotas. With or without the logo. If we lose the logo we could be in the same boat as Illinois. Fighting Illini-Fighting Dakotas. I can see the NCAA having a hissy with the indian logo but maybe a new logo with Dakota.

So if UND gets into MM and upsets a 5 seed then moves on and upsets another top team gets into the Sweet 16 you aren't going to get excited?? Sioux hockey is not the only thing at UND. As for football i can't wait til 2012 when we will have a shot at a national title. Fighting Sioux is ALL sports not just hockey.

When Central went through the name change we (the students) summitted a whole list of names then the facilty (not sure if the school board had a say) filtered the list to take out inappropriate names and other names that didn't fit. Example they didn't want Bulldogs because students were saying we do it doggy style (and guess what the female students were called) "I know its childish but so is high school"- Ferris Bueller" Then when the list was voted on by the students and the top 4 was put on a new ballot and you got to the top 2. Then the final vote by the students happened and the GF Central Knights were born. So i could see UND going that route. The way things are going the SBoHE will have a new name the U.

Per the lawsuit they have until Nov 30, 2010. Its the SBoHE sticking its nose where it doesn't belong.

Got this in writing? What if UND changes its name and still don't get in. Then what?? Then we prevent the SR to voice their opinion, we give the SBoHE permission to do as they wish to our schools, what if they think UND should change their colors from Green, White, and Pink, to Maroon and Gold? What stops them? Changing the name is NOT a guarantee!!! But waiting until Nov. 30, 2010 the nickname issue will ultimately be resolved one way or the other and that IS a guarantee.

I think if they (SBoHE) know a vote will be coming they will let that go through. I think what they should be doing in the mean time is get the SL and SR on board for a 20 or 30 year or indifinate contract for use of the name. If the SR use the 1969 pipe ceremony since that can't be undone then technically UND has the blessing of the SR indifinately.

So if you are the SBoHE do you change the name immediately with a petition and possible vote (plus a 1969 ceremony) going on, or ignore them and change the name to get into the Summit?
