That’s what UND 1983 said except for the logo, the name Fighting Hawks has one national title and it’s hanging in the REA with the interlocking ND, any other banners from this point will have both the name and the Hawk logo.

Second in the country in men’s basketball. Nice job to them and all the Fighting Hawk athletes.

So go to games with your Sioux jersey and have fun. Others will wear the Hawk jersey, laugh at the mascot and have a good time. It can all exist as we all cheer the team to victory, remember the non-UND fans are the enemy not other UND fans.

It is stupid and childish, wish it never has to happen. We are all fans of North Dakota plain and simple. My son starts his UND education this fall, I told him don’t say Go Bison they don’t like that. Now why can’t it be that simple.

You hit the nail on the head...social media!! It is firing up more and more Sioux Forever fans (mostly hockey only) especially on hockey related pages of Facebook. The UND men’s hockey page, the REA, and Sioux Shop will post something and if anyone mentions a Hawk...BAM they get blasted as not a true fan, they make fun of the logo, and of course the *Sioux reply. This one is hilarious: I have been accused of working for the university to push the Hawk agenda onto those pages. So no one is a fan of the school anymore it’s either you are for the Sioux or you are lumped into the enemy group with the Bison and Gophers although more Gophers than Bison since we are taking hockey. The division of fans is still as strong as ever, and there are no signs of cracks in the division.

The difference between the hockey team and any other sports team at UND speaks for itself when regarding the nickname, and not just the crowd wearing the Sioux jerseys that’s visible.

Berry likes to live in the past with the name, he puts Fighting Sioux hockey in the minds of his players. Must be interesting for kids from outside the area (like Europe) who think the school is the Fighting Hawks.

I hope not, it would be a childish move. I see more and more Fighting Hawk hockey players (2015-present) putting Fighting Sioux alumni or Fighting Sioux with their number in their twitter profile. What are they trying to accomplish besides wishful thinking. Unless they played in 2012 you aren’t a Fighting Sioux.

In 15-20 years it may not be a joke. Who knows what arenas will look like in the future.

How many Fighting Sioux bombs is he going to pump into the broadcast. If he doesn’t refer to them as the Fighting Hawks but as FS I would suggest Midco fire him.

Since UND would be in control of the arena I don’t think they could afford such an upgrade.

I think saying Fighting Sioux is tolerable but the marking out the current logo is very childish.

Yep the Notre Dame interlocking ND is better than the Fighting Hawk.

As far as being just 4 years old I think it’s a good start...outside the REA.

Don’t forget even if we got permission from Standing Rock and was the Sioux for another 5, 10, 20 years at any point they objected we would’ve had to change the name as per Stenjeum’s settlement.
