How many people bought the plain ol North Dakota hockey jerseys back in '93 when Ken Baker got rid of the Blackhawk logo. I would say not many. So IMO a new nickname will definately outsell a plain UND with no nickname.

Every team will have a nickname. Just look at the schools in GF that changed maybe good, maybe bad. West Elementary School-- Old: Warriors New: Wolves Valley Jr. High --- Old: Warriors New: Royals Central High---Old: Redskins New: Knights Wilder Elem. : Old Warriors New: ?

I am surprised they haven't been crying to leave the Fargodome. Only 1 playoff game ever since moving out of Dacotah Field. UND flipped their situation around from leaving Memorial into the Alerus and winning a national title in its first season inside. I just think the Fargodome is preventing NDSU from making more money they could have if they played in a 25-30k stadium. Now fitting people that size outside into our weather that may be a stretch. And I agree there are more important money issues in Fargo like flooding, but if UND starts their "new" stadium remodel down the road and Fargo is still dragging its feet (due to flooding) people are going to wonder 2 things....where is all this flood money going (new sales tax) and how come UND has a IPF, and a new stadium when (to quote Bison fans) hockey is king, and NDSU has more interest on all the "minor" sports like track where "football is king".

We need a new nickname.....if you create a school on NCAA Football 12 you can't add a school without a nickname. Of course hearing the announcers say Fighting Sioux is music to my ears.

If you and your Bison buddies want to move up to the FBS you will need the facilities to go with it. IPF is very attractive to recruits and a bigger dome (unless you are Idaho).

I would like to see UND with a new name, but nothing chosen just to be PC.

NDSU has track?? Look out Olympics. Why not get the money for that garage they call a basketball arena, then work on improving their football practice facilities or better yet get some cash to move out of the Fargodome into a bigger stadium.

I think other schools would get tired of seeing UND all over the trophy.

Go to Fargo for that.

Just thought people should know. According to the settlement, if UND was allowed to use Sioux with say Spirit Lake. If their tribal council voted against the name in the future UND would have to retire the name...again. Do we really want to go down this road again. No Spirit Lake Sioux no UND Sioux of Spirit Lake. Its either Fighting Sioux (the way it is) or nothing (or a new name) nothing to do with Indian logos or names again.

Frank Black Cloud I hope you give the NCAA hell as they deserve to be punished. The NCAA are nothing but bullies and they don't care who they hurt just as long as its not the big money making schools of the FBS.

No big deal....our membership in the Big Sky is solid since we ARE retiring the name, and second we aren't able to go to the playoffs (hockey isn't until March) so that doesn't apply to us either.

Yes it is a done deal. The Fighting Sioux is going to be retired. UND had no choice if they would have kept the name they would have been thrown out of the Big Sky, and teams would start banning their school from scheduling UND.

After losing to Sioux Falls no game should be labled a gimme. I agree too this game should be on the same level as Idaho or Fresno State. You play tough for 4 quarters not 1.

If UND has the nickname dealing with the color green could they have Brian Bennett draw another Indian logo and use it with the name Dakota?? I know its a long shot but just curious, I mean its on our road signs, NDHP cars, and there is imagery on the state seal.
