Don't forget SDSU threatening not to schedule UND, there could've been others if they didn't retire the name. As for football not being in the playoffs for a long time, seeing we were not eligible from 2008-2011 and we got screwed this season the name would have definitely played a role in a bid for a home game. Retiring the name and moving on will help this school in the long run with scheduling, conference affiliation, and recruiting (ask Dale Lennon). Boise St and Northern Illinois is the only teams I remember this century to play in a "major" bowl game. Other than that I can't name a non p5 team to play in a "major" bowl game.

Who the hell would want to go FBS with the structure of its bowl games today? Move up just to play a 5-7 team in a bowl no one outside the fanbase will watch. Until they announce different tiers (like Sicatoka talked about) all FCS teams should just sit tight, and play for a real playoff champion.

What some may not realize is this thread was created after the numerous posts in game threads calling for Jones's head 2 years ago. I only created the thread to centralize those posts, and here we are in Jones' tenth year talking about the same stuff we were in his 8th year.

we were thrilled in 2001 when we got our first D2 NC, it was great to reach the top then 2 seasons later we almost made it to the top again but falling short in the Championship game. Same thing for this division, a chance to play and win an FCS championship would be a dream because there is no way any Dakota school would win (or play) in an FBS playoff with p5 teams.
