  1. My favorite moments, in no particular order: -2007 West Regional OT winner over Goofs -Kyle Radke beating the snot out of a DU player between periods -Dasher Dance -2010 playoff series vs. Gophers (Frattin's demolition derby & throttling them twice) -2008 West Regional comeback and OT win over Wisconsin -Trupp's OT winner batted out of the air vs. the Gophers -Last year's shorty OT winner vs. Air Force -Doug Woog vs. Dean Blais Bubble Hockey
  2. I thought of another big screen feature that is no more: "The University of North Dakota is the home of the Fighting Sioux. UND chose the name Fighting Sioux in the 1930s, because the Sioux warriors were the most courageous of all warriors. The great Sioux nation epitomized honor, courage, pride, overcoming adversity, and winning battles. We ask tonight that you would cheer your team to victory, and exhibit good sportsmanship, as well as respect for the American Indians and their proud and honored culture and heritage. Thank you."
  3. YES. Another one I had forgotten about.
  4. I had completely forgotten about "Beer Lady"/"Beer Grandma" until this morning, which got me thinking, what other sort of in-game features have been a part of UND hockey games in the past that we're forgetting? I'll start the list: -Beer Lady/Beer Grandma -Cowbell Guy
  5. I don't have any data, but wouldn't you think many of the students who take over 4 years to graduate do so because they've changed majors, and not from some lack of effort by only taking 12 credits a semester? There is a 0% chance UND would suggest such a move if it wouldn't raise revenues, and raising revenues means more debt for students. No matter how they frame it, it's a bad deal for students. Answer me this - if a student is taking 12 credits now, how does this motivate them to take 15? If they aren't taking 15 credits when those extra 3 are free, why would they pay MORE to take them?
  6. This is a disguised maneuver to raise tuition and a very deceptive tactic by the administration. More reading on this: http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/3711205-und-mulls-changing-tuition-model http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/und-proposes-massive-tuition-hike/ IMO - UND's tuition is what keeps it a great value. Without such a great tuition rate, the university probably sees fewer enrollments from the cities and other areas. I've known many people who came purely because the price was much better than other regional universities. This feels a lot like taking from many to benefit a few at the university.
  7. Zane last year. What was a letdown about his performance at any point in the tournament?
  8. So what if there's a banner? They hang banners in the Dean Dome for Final Fours at UNC. I think it's worth noting the program has been there so many times.
  9. Who would you rather have coaching the team? I like having a program alumni behind the bench, and I can't think of anyone else I'd rather have there. You bring an NHL coach in here and they might have more experience at a higher level, but they aren't going to respect the program like an alumni and they aren't going to do any better than Hak. The only thing missing from his resume is a natty, and while that's huge, I'd still take where we are at as a program over having a natty and a handful of losing seasons.
  10. Anyone looking to dump off their worthless UND jerseys or other memorabilia after another disappointment please PM me. I get it, everyone wants a championship. Not winning is disappointing, not winning after 7 trips to the F4 is unbearable. But when you look at it, the only coach that can come close to comparing to Hakstol in terms of achievements in the last 11 years is Jerry York. JERRY FREAKIN' YORK...ie - the winning-est coach in D1 history. There are only 4 coaches who have gotten 7 teams in the playoffs in the last 11 years, much less to the F4. If you want a non-hockey analogy, look at Bobby Cox. The guy took the Braves to the playoffs for 14 straight years and won 1 championship. You know how Braves fans treat him? Like the baseball god he is. Anyone who thinks Dave Hakstol should be fired doesn't have "high expectations", they are spoiled rotten. We all want championships, but those of us with the mental capacity to remember there's 7 months in a season know that Hak is doing things right, and that to get rid of him would be insanity. I've met Dave, I've been coached by Dave, I've watched him and his teams for years. There is not one coach anywhere on the planet I would rather have behind that bench. Not only has he consistently taken teams to the postseason, but he's done it with teams that by talent alone had no place being there. Every other program in the country has had an "off" year in the last decade except for North Dakota. I'll ride that consistency for as long as Hakstol will stay. Mark my words, he will keep getting teams into the playoffs every year, and eventually they will win...and even when they don't win a championship, they will still have great years, win tons of games, and make for great hockey to watch for 7 months. UND and Grand Forks are lucky to have this hockey program, and they are lucky to have Dave Hakstol.
  11. I think we turn it around. The game is mirroring the day today. gfhockey was late starting the GDT, and as such, the team had a slow start to the game. 4-2 SIOUX w/an ENG
  12. Does anyone know what conference the refs will be from?
  13. Better yet, let's be true capitalists and sell the nickname rights. We could be: The North Dakota Verizon Fighting V's The North Dakota Freaks - Freaky Fast and sponsored by Jimmy Johns The North Dakota Budweiser Storming Clydesdales - Unique and representative of UND! The North Dakota Grinders - Sponsored by the Red Pepper Sell the rights for 5 years at a time. New revenue to support the school and new merchandise sales every few years from people having to keep up with the new logos.
  14. Every other skater is accounted for, so I'm gonna go ahead and confirm Anas is out there in a non-contact jersey.
  15. I looked through my old band recordings and none of them included it at the end, but here's the words for it. This would be chanted as an extension of the fight song after hockey goals and football touchdowns. Percussion would continue playing for it, but no other instruments played. D-A-K, O-T-A, NORTH. DAKOTA. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SIOUX! Scratch that - you can hear it at about the :30 mark of this video:
  16. Stafford seems to be turning things around in Winnipeg - he's on a 7 game point streak with 9 points in those 7 games. (4G, 5A, +6) http://espn.go.com/nhl/player/gamelog/_/id/3327/drew-stafford
  17. PS - Gametime is listed as 7:07 on the tickets and online: http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=58684&SPID=6405&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=209907748 http://www.undsports.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&SPID=6405&SPSID=58682&DB_OEM_ID=13500 http://www.ticketmaster.com/search?tm_link=tm_homeA_header_search&aid=821823&user_input=university+of+north+dakota+hockey&q=University+of+North+Dakota+Mens+Hockey
  18. How about UND buys out Stony Brook and gives NDSU the home game they want for 2016 in return for NDSU agreeing to come to Grand Forks in 2019?
  19. Article from the Raleigh newspaper highlighting Malone and his effort this season. (and the sandwich, of course) http://www.newsobserver.com/2015/02/09/4543289/malone-fourth-line-provides-more.html
  20. Friday: Chyzyk Saturday: MacMillan
  21. As a heads up for any hat throwing individuals - the last hat trick I saw at the Ralph, they had all the hats in a box outside the security office after the game.
  22. Friday: Nick S. Saturday: Jordan S. Feeling Schmaltzy.
