I never doubted they were capable of putting the signal out there. Most stations don't own their own HD sat truck. Even in larger cities, most companies just rent. Especially for sports broadcasting, there are companies that handle just the sat uplink aspect of the broadcast. You don't just add a couple hd cameras and a few other pieces of equipment and suddenly you're making HD tv. We did it on the cheap for the 100k and we have at least 20 pieces of HD specific equipment in the trailer alone. I haven't been inside Midco's HD trailer but I've seen pictures. It's a legit trailer. It easily rivals what Altitude, Root Sports Rocky Mountain, and CBSSports Network have (I have been in those trucks). No way any of those trailers were even close to $400,000. That's a lot of money for a company in Grand Forks/Fargo that isn't pulling in cash like crazy. It most likely has to do with the history of the stations (ownership groups). KVLY has been doing broadcasts for years (think state hockey tournament, etc). WDAY/Z haven't been doing it nearly as long. However, when Forum Comm got into the live sports industry, they most likely had just purchased a fairly new SD setup. Having worked at KVLY, they were using their very old equipment even up until at least 2007. It was likely much easier for them to buy HD equipment because they hadn't recently invested in SD, like Forum Comm had.

Capable of what? Putting an HD signal on FTA? That's nowhere close to the same as producing a sports broadcast in HD. I just purchased a very basic HD production trailer for work. It's a three camera setup (two of which aren't very good) and has a basic graphics system. Total cost was $100,000. But it's for high school sports, so it doesn't need to be top-notch. To have a truck capable of producing high quality broadcasts in an arena the size of the Ralph would be at least four times that price.

Keikla, SiouxTupa and myself will be there. Trying to decide if we want to fly from Denver now that we can get roundtrip tickets for $83. Not really looking forward to the long drive from/to the Springs.

Psst, an HD control room is not the same as buying an HD truck.

Quit all of this niceness with these Miami fans!!!! I want Ausmus to rip off at least three heads. He needs to show he is the replacement for MacWilliam. Who will be the first UND fan to throw a dead (of natural causes, of course) redhawk onto the ice? If this game was at the old ralph someone would smuggle in an entire chicken coop of redhawks and throw them onto the ice after the first goal.

I have unlimited data from Verizon. I've been grandfathered in, in that I've had it for 6+ years. I was supposed to lose it when I renewed my contract and got my new phone nearly two years ago but it's still there. I'm assuming I'll lose it when I upgrade in a few months but hoping it sticks around. I generally hook up to my wifi if I'm going to be streaming something off my iphone.

Looking back, that seems accurate. Good work. Proudsioux, err gfhockey, certainly is a well respected poster around here. At least he shut up for most of the 2nd half.

I don't expect people to be content. I'm jumping through hoops to get the games. I have to bring a computer home from work every weekend to watch. And pay $63 to get it. I do expect people to understand UND is in a conference and doesn't get to make all the decisions by themselves.

I get that UND should feel like more than 1/8th of a vote because they were a founding member. But there are 7 other founding members in the conference. It's a conference, UND should play a role but why do they deserve more than what Denver, Colorado College, Duluth or Miami get? Those are the big schools in the conference... do those five schools get two votes and everyone else gets one? That's a great way to attract members. Does UND get all the votes and everyone gets none? Why does UND deserve all the credit and the votes? Did they form the conference themselves? Did they force all the schools to join? Why even let the other schools decide on the name... I guess it should have been the North Dakota Hockey Conference because UND is the only school that matters because they were important in starting the conference. It's a conference, not an individual school leading the way. How difficult is that to understand? Miami has been to the championship game more recently than us. Duluth and Denver have won more championships than us in the past 12 years. St. Cloud State was in the Frozen Four last year and beat Miami! Do they get a few more votes than us? Would UND want to be a part of a conference where their vote mattered less than other schools? Then why the f do you expect other schools to do the same?

I think the shootouts are good for our national exposure... and I've learned that's all that matters.

I understand the frustration. I'm frustrated... I liked watching on tv. However, can I ask for a legitimate reason why you consider it an excuse? What should/could UND have done to prevent the league from signing this contract? What do you know that UND didn't do to prevent this contract?

I think it's because everyone is using their computers to stream the game. I have two laptops in my living room, so i have one to type and one to watch on my TV. Still, I'm surprised how quiet it is this year.

It's nice living within an hour of three NCAA hockey teams, 2 of which are NCHC teams, the other one I work for. Chatted with a higher member of an NCHC athletic department about the CBSSN TV deal today. He said each school had one vote about the TV deal. There were 7 yes votes and one no vote. The only no vote was Brian Faison. Seems like Faison was pretty knowledgeable about how this deal would negatively affect UND's viewership. Glad he is in the fan's corner about trying to get the games as viewable as possible.

Let's get the numbers on the front/top part of the helmet like the NHL and the UND on the sides. I think that would look sharp

Why is it perfect for some and not for others? Midco, UND and Neulion are all sending the exact same feed. The only thing not included in that is the end user and people have different systems.

I agree. I don't know what it was, but there was a different UND team out there today. There were mistakes which turned out to be costly, but the big defensive problems (for the most part) and the lack of offense weren't issues. It was turnovers and a few big plays. Stop those and UND wins this game easily. Gives you hope for the rest of the season.
