I've been wondering the same exact thing this season. I bet on average we waste about a third of every power play setting up behind the net. Of course, this wouldn't be as much of an issue if we could just hold the zone better on the power play.

Thanks for the info Sal. If you could please post a link to the obituary, I'm sure everybody on this board would be very interested.

Interesting note from that article regarding the bonus points: Bonus Time We know there is a bonus component to the criteria, the NCAA's tweak to the system which rewards "good" nonconference wins. Without official word on the size of the bonuses, we take these numbers: .003 for a good road win, .002 for a good neutral win and .001 for a good home win. Does anything change? Absolutely. North Dakota moves all the way up to No. 9 from No. 14, all by its lonesome. That pushes UNH, UML, Cornell and Ohio State down one spot in the seedings.

I wonder why they wouldn't air both night's games. Won't they be taking a crew out there anyway?
-
Don't they hang banners in Mariucci for Final Five titles?

I think the old couple should watch the game on TV at home!

Lee Goren scores 2nd hat trick of the season.

I remember the Kollar incident at the Final Five. I think it was the St. Cloud goalie that stood on the ice by the bench waiting for Kollar to leave first. Kollar waited him out for what seemed like about 5 minutes. The Huskie goalie eventually gave up and went to the locker room while the Sioux fans cheered.

ENJOY THE SEASON!!!!!!!

Personally, I'm not too worried about this team. We have played, by far, the toughest schedule of anybody in the nation so far, and we have still won more games than we have lost. Also, it's only November. Everybody knew (or should have known) that this team would need some time to gel this season. I'd rather float beneath the radar a bit for the first half of the season and gradually get better, as opposed to other seasons where we've been locked in at #1 or #2 in the nation for the first half, only to fade away when the playoffs approached. As for tonight's game, this could have very easily been a victory. The power play in the first period had one scoring chance after another. Also, we did a good job of staying out of the penalty box. I thought that was encouraging. I do have to wonder a bit about Jordan being the #1 guy right now. At this point, I would be in favor of throwing Phil in there a few games in a row and see how he does. Who knows, maybe he's the next Goehring. The season is young. Let's find out.

Looks like we'll have some chances to see a few former Sioux players in Winnipeg. They play Binghampton (Bochenski) and Syracuse (Goehring and Panzer) at home this season. Too bad they don't play Albany.

I vote for Porter. I've got him pegged for 20 goals & 20 assists this season.

"This is no place for sleepwalkers, which is why we sent Thomas Vanek to the NHL." That's pretty funny!!
-
Don't forget about the goal where Greene turned the puck over to Vanek deep in the Sioux defensive end. I don't exactly chalk that goal up to Brandt.

David Vest The Arizona Republic Jun. 8, 2004 12:00 AM The Coyotes are expected to announce the signing of University of Minnesota junior defenseman Keith Ballard today, according to people within the organization. Ballard, who could not be reached for comment, was one of 10 finalists for this past season's Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the top Division I hockey player. The Coyotes acquired Ballard's rights from the Colorado Avalanche on March 9 in the trade that also brought defenseman Derek Morris to Phoenix for center Chris Gratton, defenseman Ossi Vaananen and a second-round draft pick in 2005. Ballard (5 feet 11, 200 pounds), from Baudette, Minn., notched 11 goals and 25 assists in 37 games in his junior season at Minnesota. He recently helped the U.S. team earn a bronze medal at the IIHF World Championships.

I was in Nebraska on business this week and I was able to attend the Tri-City playoff game last night and watch Spirko play. He is definitely a fast skater and a good playmaker. I think he's going to be a great addition if he comes next year. I know that the correct pronunciation of his last name is supposed to be "Speer-o" with the K silent, but the announcer at their home arena pronounces it "Speer-ko".
