  1. Honestly, I was mad when Matteau decommitted but now I feel that it was a blessing in disguise. He was suspended on three or four separate occasions while playing for the NTDP... spearing, attempt to injure (for a hit he delivered on Colten St. Clair), slashing and cross-checking majors, gross misconduct for hitting a linesman.... 7 game suspension, 8 game suspension, 1-2 game suspensions. He jumps to the Q and has already been suspended twice for a hit to the head and a hit from behind. I know UND teams are notorious for being aggressive, but Matteau plays downright reckless. I'm a bit surprised New Jersey is the team that ended up drafting him. Sure he's talented, but his on-ice behavior has to be a concern. Of note, according to Hockey DB, Matteau has 8 points (4G, 4A) in 12 games for Blainville-Boisbriand Armada
  2. The MacNaughton Cup is a lovely trophy and will definitely be tough to replace. I would like to see the NCHC adopt a cup style trophy. A friend and I joked that they should model it after the Stanley Cup just to troll the other conferences As for the Broadmoor Trophy, almost anything would be an improvement over the newly designed one. My friends and I refer to it as the "chocolate hotel." Spencer and Julie Penrose founded the El Pomar Foundation which is a supporter of the NCHC and helped establish its headquarters in Colorado Springs - Penrose Cup/Trophy or the Spencer Cup/Trophy.
  3. I have developed some rituals pertaining to the UND goal song... -I don't listen to Chelsea Dagger the week of a home game. My reasoning is that it will sound that much sweeter when played after a goal. If I hear it, I want it to be because UND scored. -I don't listen to Chelsea Dagger on game days (home or road) -After home wins I blast Chelsea Dagger in the car on my drive home from the rink. I've noticed one on-ice ritual by a player: Danny Kristo - At the tail end of warmups at REA, he snags a puck from the net or surrounding area, stickhandles straight up the slot to center ice, backhands the puck to the net, and then skates over to the bench to stretch. I've seen him do it at road games too.

  15. Thanks for the info, letsSIOUXum. Wisconsin Sioux, if you search 'UND Sports' it should come up. EDIT: UNDSports.com has links to online apps (Apple, Android) http://www.undsports...SCRIBER_CONTENT=
  16. I have the free UND Sports app but I would certainly upgrade if it means I can watch videos. I didn't think the UNDSports.com videos could play on an iPhone since Apple doesn't support flash media.

  19. Wisconsin freshman Nic Kerdiles is currently ineligible to play, per the NCAA Blogger Chris Peters cites sources indicating that the issue may have to do with social media activity http://unitedstateso...media-to-blame/
  20. A few of my favorite memories: February 15, 2002 Attended my first hockey game. The Sioux beat Michigan Tech 12-2 and by the end of the game I was completely hooked. 2003 WCHA 1st Round Playoffs Sioux vs. Denver: DU won Friday night, Sioux won two intense games in OT on Saturday and Sunday to advance to the Final Five 2005 World Junior Championship I was an event volunteer and was in attendance for several games throughout the tournament. The Gold Medal game between Canada and Russia is the loudest I have ever heard The Ralph. My ears ached every time Team Canada scored. The place was an absolute zoo. Also, it's incredible to look back at the amount of talent that was on the ice during those two weeks - Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Bergeron, Weber, Getzlaf... During one of my shifts I was in the Olympic rink when Team Russia arrived and I remember watching the media swarm Alex Ovechkin. He shrugged them off and stood in front of a television watching highlights of himself. It was also cool to see all the folks in the hockey world who ventured to Grand Forks (NHL GMs, coaches, and scouts, Wayne Gretzky...). The Stanley Cup was even in the house for a few days.
  21. Yeah, I still cringe when I see or hear the name Shawn Hunwick. The 1-0 loss to Denver in the 2004 West Regional Final is another tough one.
