Were you at the X for the 2nd period of yesterday's game? Haven't seen this team get outworked like that this year!
-
Getting sent to the NE region only reiterates how badly the boys screwed up this weekend. 1 win and we'd be playing in some other region. It is what it is though...one game at a time now and it starts with UNH.
-
Totally agree! Some can say we don't play well at Mariucci, but it would've had almost a home game feel with all the UND fans. Now we'll probably have to go east.
-
Walked over with the UND reserves Friday pm. Toews looked and walked ok? He was chatting and laughing. Don't know why he did play yesterday? Watkins came back in and played after his hit on Friday. My guess he was held out yesterday as a precaution and will go next week.

Just a few notes from St. Paul on the Sioux: 1) Want some of my money back. I worked harder on the x-training machine at the Crowne Plaza then UND did on the ice. 2) Special teams: 1 and done in the NCAA if things don't change. Gave up a SHG and 2 PPGs. And were OH-fer on the PP! 3) BE has to play better. He wasn't awful, but 2 of the 3 goals in the 2nd yesterday we right in front of us and could've been handled. And this misplayed puck vs. UMD... 4) Score! 1 goal in 2 games?? You all know the stats, we don't win unless we get at least 3! 5) Get back to playing UND hockey...skating, hitting, and hitting some more for 60 minutes. We gave up 25 shots in the second period yesterday because we stopped skating and hitting like the first period. 6) Great Sioux crowd and fans. 7) Skywalk from Crowne was great on Friday with rain. 8) Ray, our Subway sandwich guy, on Friday said he was a big Sioux fan...he is also NA! Said the nickname issues is "BS"! Go Ray Ray!! 9) One of the guys sitting behind us was Lee Davidson, former UND player in late 80s-early 90s. Good guy! Overall, minus the awful hockey played by UND, we had a blast. On to the NCAAs. GO SIOUX!

Going to be interesting to say the least! In '97 our WHOLE neighborhood had a ring sandbag dike...and we live down by 52nd Ave a few block north of Shanley. Bought 20 each of 2", 3" and 4" drain plugs while in St. Paul as there were none left in Fargo. We start bagging Tues. Any volunters?

The Wheeler goal a couple years ago was right in front us. One of those sport's shots that probably couldn't be done again even if tried. As they say in golf, "He couldn't hit that shot again if you gave him 3 bags of balls!"
-
My daughter is a huge Trupp fan and she was thinking about "Sioux-per Trupp-er". Doesn't roll off the tongue, but she is excited about it.
-
Maybe because I have a limited hockey mind, but how does McBain's name creep into every converstion about year end awards? He has lots of talent, but if awards are based on statistics, how can one overlook his +/-??
-
Now I really don't want UND to face him on Friday!
-
My 8 yr. old daughter and I will be in Sec. 121 Row 24
-
He better be 'cause we won't be facing the likes of Tech this weekend...6 goals against vs. them was absolutely pathetic. If the 'Dogs get 3 or more tomorrow, the Gophs season is done!

Puff was a tool prior to the drug bust. Now he is just an addicted tool!

I still think WI is the wild card. They are playing pretty well. They have a great shot of beating DU with the lose of all their centers. They could beat UND in the final and no play-in team has won the championship if that team beats UND. Buckey could easily steal an auto-bid this weekend, which inturn takes away an at-large bid.
-
And I'm sure he mentioned nothing about Special K and the rest of the Gophs giving up 6 in a game to those same Huskies the week before!
-
Using Larry Bird and Dave Vonesh in the same conversation? Now that's just silly talk!
-
I agree. With DU without 2, possibly 3 of their top centers, I can easily see WI winning that game. I could see WI beating UND in the final...auto bid for Bucky and then one less at-large bid. And as mentioned before no play-in team has won the championship so it is a tall order for UMD or UM to make the NCAA field.
-
Not arguing with Vonesh's stats, but I was at UND during his years and the posts he played against were mostly stiffs. I'm not saying Moormann is a stud, but he is very solid defensively and is fairly athletic. He should average more than 4 boards a game no doubt. The athleticism from just the old NCC to the Summitt is huge. Did you see the 4 and 5 that Oakland put on the floor? Decent BB player and great athletes. Vonesh would've struggled against that type of competition night in and night out. A 6'9" who can't jump and with little athletic skill doesn't go far in D1 in any conference.
-
You give Vonesh too much credit and Moorman not enough. Moormann would score much, but Vonesh would score as much as you think. Woodside would score 20+ on Rico and we all know Rico couldn't score consistanly. Gulseth/Winkleman is a push. Nelson hands down. Gardner would score down low, Tveidt would step outside and shoot 3s all day. Again IMO, best of 7 SU wins 4-2.
-
I would tend to agree and that was the last UND team I saw play consistantly. But compare those 5 with the current SU starting 5? SU can drill the 3 from 4 spots minus Moormann. I think that would be a biggest difference between the 2 teams.
-
Agree 100%. I tried to make this point on another thread until the powers-that-be closed it down. As per my previous posts in this thread, I think this SU BB team is terrific, but the hype of making the "Dance" totally outweighs the significance of making the "Dance". SU won a conference tourney...plain and simple. It will be nothing more than that if they don't beat KU, which if very unlikely. Winning a D1 hockey title trumps making the "Dance"...period. SU fans (and I know some) saying that winning a D1AA FB championship is less significant than making the "Dance" in BB are just as illogical. Friday will be great for SU and the state of ND, but it will be a blip on the NCAA BB scene when 2:30 pm on Friday rolls around if SU doesn't win.
-
I do personally think this SU team is the BEST college BB team I've seen come out of ND. To all you Vonesh fans, he was good, but come on, playing a D1 schedule is harder/ more difficult than going up against the Morningside's, Mankato's and Auggies's of D2. I personally think Dave was a very good D2 player, but even somewhat overrated in his era. Dave's athleticism was marginal at best and definitely not good enough to compete on a D1 level night in and night out. Moormann is very solid defensively and at 6'10" fairly athletic. Don't forget he was offered to walk-on at UCLA. Woodside is flat out better than any guards UND had at that time. Winkleman is a flat out stud. The only true advantage for UND would be Gulseth...he was the real deal. He was underrated IMO during his time at UND. I'm not knocking those UND teams, but they had niche players, minus Gulseth, that made the sum of a team. This SU team has good to exceptional overall players and Tveidt is a white man's version of Gulseth at his age, but a better shooter. PS: Not on crack, but just because you seem to think you have a higher BB IQ than everyone else doesn't mean you are absolute in your opinion!

Which end of Excel do Sioux shoot on twice?
Oxbow6 replied to runaroundsioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Nice! We'll be in 124. Just hope my retinas don't get fried from the red light constantly going off! -
Phil's parents use to babysit my mom and my aunt and my uncle, so don't tell me he'd score 50 'cause I know he'd get at least 60!! Was just trying to make a point awhile back that this SU BB team is very good and one of the best college team's to come out of ND.

This time of year...playoff time...you need to be playing well on special teams. Right now our PP is so-so at best and our PK has been awful. IF we can get those 2 things ironed out, I like our chances against anyone in a one game situation. BE has been great, our defense is steady for the most part and offensively we have 4 very solid lines. Nobody can predict a bounce or two, but if you can kill penalties and score on the PP, your chance of winning go way up.
