Fighting Sioux Hockey is having an oustanding season!
brianvf replied to Hayduke's topic in Non-collegiate sports
I can't believe they lost to the Monarchs...they're kind of crappy this year. The Sioux probably lost some key players to injuries or something. Also thought this was funny: I guess Lucia was right...every time a fight happens, the Sioux are involved. -
Should Hakstol be considered for National Coach of the Year?
brianvf replied to siouxnami's topic in Men's Hockey
This is complete bunk. The Sioux lost three forwards before the season even began (Miller, St. Clair, DiPuma), have since lost another three forwards to season-ending injuries (Grimaldi, Rodwell, O'Donnell), typically are playing 2 or 3 defensemen as forwards, are playing multiple walk-on players to fill roster spots, etc. IMO, if Hakstol can coach this team into the NCAA's, it will be one of his finest coaching performances since coming to UND. I'm not saying that he will win Coach of the Year, or even that he should be nominated...but the amount of adversity that this team has endured this year is remarkable. -
You are correct.

Probably been a tough time for him lately with the NTDP issue and now joining a struggling team in the USHL.

Why do they let Roman near a press box?
-
CC beats DU 2-0 with an ENG.

http://nahlalexan.stats.pointstreak.com/playerpage.html?playerid=5409792&seasonid=7317 Tied for 6th on the team in points. Appears to be more of a playmaker...only 2 goals but 19 assists. I didn't even realize Trupper had a younger brother!
-
It sounds like UND might have a secondary plan for televising more games when the FCS contract ends: They've got a couple years to figure out how to get more games televised to a broader audience. I have faith that they can do it.
-
I'm still a "maybe"...only can make it if the Sioux make the F5.
-
I was always surprised that he jumped early. Hopefully Kristo, Nelson, Knight, and MacWilliam listen to his advice!
-
I was thinking that as well but just put him on the 2012 due to his age and in case MacWilliam goes pro. Of course, if Jones surprises and picks us over WHL, that will obviously change.

Committed Recruits Stats Update (with new recruits Chyzyk and Tambellini). Also divided into possible incoming years: 2012 Clarke Saunders, G (UAH) - 23gp, .908 save %, 3.66 gaa, 2-19-1 record Zane Gothberg, G (Fargo/USHL) - 27gp, .914 save %, 2.42 gaa, 15-10-2 record Paul LaDue, D (Lincoln/USHL) - 32gp, 6g-14a-20p Jordan Schmaltz, D (Green Bay/USHL) - 23gp, 6g-13a-19p Miles Koules, F (USA U18) - 37gp, 4g-11a-15p Bryn Chyzyk, F (Fargo/USHL) - 37gp, 20g-11a-31p 2013 Geoff Crisfield, D (Vernon/BCHL) - 44gp, 0g-6a-6p (leads team with 72 PIM) Luke Johnson, F (Lincoln/USHL) - 32gp, 10g-20a-30p Drake Caggiula, F (Stouffville/OJHL) - 20gp, 8g-19a-27p Jack Rowe, F (Cedar Rapids/USHL) - 25gp, 2g-12a-14p Luke Voltin, F (Des Moines/USHL) - 2gp, 0g-0a-0p Adam Tambellini, F (Vernon/BCHL) - 41gp, 20g-18a-38p 2014 Charlie Pelnik, D (SSM U16) - 38gp, 3g-7a-10p Keaton Thompson, D (USA U17) - 31gp, 4g-10a-14p Nick Schmaltz, F (USA) - 6gp, 2g-4a-6p Chris Wilkie, F (Omaha U16) - 18gp, 22g-26a-48p I would think that maybe one of the 2013 forwards might come in this fall instead to even up the classes a bit and to replace a potential departure (Kristo/Nelson/Knight). Other than that, our only forward to replace will be Lammy, and we still have St. Clair as a "freshman" in addition to Grimaldi and Rodwell hopefully being able to play more than just a handful of games.
-
Sounds like a great pickup! Really surprised that he didn't follow his brother to Michigan. Like was mentioned earlier, being that he is drafted in the WHL, who knows what will happen. If he makes it to campus, I like the sounds of it. Heck of a day for the coaching staff!
-
They were discussing this very topic today on GPL (NHL dmen from UND, UW, and UMN). Both the Gophers and Badgers have more current NHL dmen than the Sioux.
-
A heck of a lot warmer than GF, unfortunately. Although it rains a lot there...that would be annoying. I was looking at the Everett roster...they have a kid named Josh Birkholz. He played for the Gophers for one season before being kicked off the team for smoking weed or something like that. To put in perspective the level of competition in the WHL, he had 6pts in 36 games for the Gophers, 29pts in 68 games last year with Everett, and 43pts in 49 games this year. Must be nice for him to play against 17 year old kids instead of 20-23 year olds.
-
Did GPL finally ban you for trolling, so you came on over to our neck of the woods? I'll agree that UMD is a legitimate team this year, but they definitely have shown to be a bit inconsistent (just like every team this year, it seems). They will certainly be a tough team during the NCAA's. Regarding our PWR ranking...while UND could still make the tourney, I won't be shocked if they don't. The story of this season will be the injuries that UND has had to try to overcome. UMD Hockey = One Title, Endless Trolling?
-
Excellent news!
-
Knight back on the top line tonight with Kristo and Nelson.
-
Chyzyk would be a great pickup as well with how he is playing recently in Fargo...
-
Not a good showing against OSU tonight, especially after how UND destroyed them at the Ralph...
-
Is Seth taking an official visit this weekend? I'd still be very surprised if he went the NCAA-route, but I would certainly take him for the one..at most two...seasons that he would be here before jumping. Hopefully he likes the atmosphere and facilities at UND compared to what the WHL would offer...playing games in HS rinks and with 1500 in attendance. EDIT: Now I read the prospective recruits thread...move along, nothing to see here.
-
Gregs would have been a Hobey candidate this year IMO. Just an excellent 2-way player with a scoring touch.
-
It would be nice to get some revenge from the series in Madison and sweep them. Four points would be huge in the WCHA race and two wins would be huge in the PWR. Playoff time, Sioux. Time to buckle down and get some wins.

I thought I read Chicago picked him up, but I don't see him on their official roster as of yet.

UND recruit Clarke Saunders made 52 saves for UAH in a 2-1 loss to Duluth. They almost pulled it off against the defending National champs.
