I have never understood the meaning of an autograph. I know some people go crazy over them, but to me the picture is all I need...it's worth more than a cheezy autograph.

Well, the Big Ten is essentially doing the same thing, running with the big dogs. I thought the main problem with the whole BTHC thing is the little guys are left in the dust...so why are we complaining about the B10 teams doing it and then proclaiming to do the same in the end? Also, there's not a snowball's chance in hell that Marquette would ever add hockey. Milwaukee is far from a hockey town and Marquette doesn't even have a football team. Who would add hockey before football in today's day-and-age?

Everyone is upset about the idea of Minnesota and Wisconsin ditching the rest of the WCHA for the Big Ten hockey conference, but no one seems to mind us doing the same thing essentially by forming a new conference with DU, CC, the other ND, and Miami (and others). Why would we get a pass for ditching the little guys when that's exactly what we're mad about with the Big Ten schools?

That video was great. I found it funny that Wilson's own dad said Toews was better.

Here's a picture I dug up of Miles. He should fit in nicely, especially for the Gophers series.

Just make sure you use the wrong sized gloves. "If the gloves don't fit, you must acquit!"

Are those dreams or nightmares...I'd hate to have anyone get confused over it.

BTHC - Alvarez and OSU want to make it happen?
Big A HG replied to star2city's topic in Men's Hockey
The NCAA is part of its own problem. There are too many restrictions on players who may be considering both leagues. If a kid who spends virtually any amount of time with a CHL club is being denied NCAA membership, what good does it do for college hockey. Loosen up the restrictions a bit and let a kid who may "commit" to a CHL team, but doesn't receive any compensation for it be allowed to de-commit his CHL path and still join college hockey...much like what kids do in the other sense (de-commit from college and play CHL). If a kid receives any compensation, then he forfeits his eligibility. That's not the entire problem, but it may help in the end. -
How has the Name Debacle affected alumni donations?
Big A HG replied to BobIwabuchiFan's topic in UND Nickname
Why does everyone assume that all donors are rich? It's probably the contrary. Just because someone donated every year doesn't mean they must continue to do so, especially if the university doesn't fight for the interests of the majority of the donors. That's why you hear so much in the way of donors having the power to get the University to do things...because the money talks. The university could have fought A LOT harder than it did to try and keep the name, but didn't. They did nothing to stop its death. They could have fought tooth and nail to keep it, and probably still would have lost it, but at least the alums would have noticed that they did their best. This is the problem most alums have with the University. Sure, UND's hands were tied by the SBoHE, but they did nothing to try and prove their case with them either, nor with the tribes either. If the university isn't going to fight for what the donors want, why should they donate anything. In the future, maybe the university will push for things that the alums want because they don't want to piss more people off, and maybe they'll gain donors in the end. If you want to donate, great, more power to you. There will be many thankful people for your donation. However, if you feel the university isn't doing the right things, and you don't want to donate, or don't want to continue donating, I'm not going to say you're wrong. If you went to UND, paid your tuition, and made some money because of it, it's your money to spend how you want. -
How has the Name Debacle affected alumni donations?
Big A HG replied to BobIwabuchiFan's topic in UND Nickname
Stop acting like a giving money is a requirement. It is not. It is a "DONATION." If an alum doesn't feel like their money is being well-spent at the University, so be it. I will not call them out. I finished school $64,000 in debt, and I'm one of many students, many of which needed much more than what I did to pay for school. I'm not complaining because it's expected that school comes at a cost. -
Hey, you might be describing UND in the near future... "Black helmet, green jersey, black breezers, and no fricking logo..."
-
That's why the interest has piqued with the potential billionaire donor.

I think a nice 6000-8000 seat arena is way more than enough seats for a college hockey venue, especially starting out....unless you are a proven winner with a great fanbase. I think the arena's amenities are as important as anything to a recruit and to a fan. That's a part of what makes UND so attractive...not necessarily the seats, but what all comes with being in an areana like REA.

Here's a great Q&A with Lucia from CHN. Lucia gives his answer about why Ambroz is not coming in, and it's a valid reason...no need to diss Lucia on that anymore. All-in-all, he seems like he's got his head straight but is getting screwed by his kids. The answer to that, though, is to not recruit the same type of kids anymore. Link

Penn State is getting serious about D1 hockey, which is very bad news, because it gives the Big Ten 6 teams, enough to get a conference with an auto-bid. Uh-oh.... Link

FSSN / Fox College Sports Deal Yes, No or Maybe?
Big A HG replied to danonodak's topic in Men's Hockey
It was a three year contract, so there are still two more years you can view the Sioux on FCS. -
If you do nothing about Mpls, it's a shame, and you'd be just as blind of a leader as those in NY whom are allowing that Muslim mosque to be built.

Maybe there aren't any good looking women at UM to keep the guys around? Or, maybe not enough cute guys for those Gophers that swing the other way...?

Here's my crazy, should-have-been-a-lawyer-esque, idea. North Dakota is hated by many in the college hockey world due to our success and our physical play. However, UND does have friends. One great friend UND has had is Bemidji State. What if we could get Bemidji State to try and host a regional in Grand Forks at REA? 1) The terms of the NCAA's ruling states that UND can't host any events there if there are Sioux logos, but doesn't state anything about any other school. 2) Schools don't have to host in their respective cities. (Example: Michigan Tech hosts regionals in Green Bay, WI at the Resch Center which is not only not in Houghton, MI, but is in a completely different state. Also the distance from Houghton to Green Bay is farther than from Bemidji to Grand Forks. Tech could have chosen to try and host in a city like Detroit which is in its home state at an even bigger market and better arena, but didn't...which is similar to Bemidji which could host in the Twin Cities, but isn't as close as Grand Forks.). Now, I'm sure the NCAA would still probably say no to this, and I doubt BSU would do it...but that is still a viable loophole worth checking into. BSU is a great school that UND had a large part in saving, so BSU does somewhat owe us one.

UND is clearly the favorite to win the WCHA... ...but every year there seems to be a sleeper team that does well. Who do you think it will be this year? I think CC, UNO, and Minnesota could all surprise some people.
-
No. UND hasn't won any titles since that one in Y2K. However, UND appears to be on the verge of making many championship runs here in the next few years. I'd take my chances.
-
I wonder how this whole Jonathan Toews phenomenon has helped in UND's recruiting over the last 6-12 months...especially with a guy like Grimaldi.

I already asked off for the Wisco trip...but being in Wisconsin, that's an easy decision.
