    2012 early look

Great, go over to the NDSU board and let them know - I don't care.
  2. Not a goph fan, but I have heard several people complain about ticket prices going up and many fans are not happy about Big 10 hockey. I am not saying that people will walk away from the Gopher program. But, fans are not happy for multiple reason and yes winning does take of most of it..
  3. I looked at the link and I was surprised to see Gyropolis rated on number 1. I live in Bloomington and it is my favorite place to each lunch. It is a great spot to pick up a quick lunch or dinner. Wally's used to be my favorite until they moved to the new location. Still good food just does not have the same feel.
  4. Couple of comments: You are assuming that UND would not play NDSU. UND played against Bemidji St (BSU) and in fact travelled to BSU more than any other WCHA program when it first started D-1 hockey. UND was a very good partner with BSU and BSU acknowledged this when they asked UND to be the opponent on opening night in the new arena for mens hockey. I seriously question your no benefit to NDSU comment. I believe that numerous posters have stated the following (increased ticket pricing, corporate/marketing opportunities). If you don't think that it is true - look at what is going on with SDSU/USD: 1) Corporate Sponsorship of the Game - in progress... South Dakota Corn Growers 2) Sold Out - it has been mentioned that they might get over 20,000 in attendance, plus you have not even started talking about local TV. 3) $40.00 for SRO - I believe that NDSU charges $30/$20 reserved sideline and reserved/EndZone. Plus, overflowing the Fargo Dome for the game might help NDSU with calls for a larger stadium!?!? 4) Plus it will be a great game - most SDSU fans are looking forward to a win over the Yotes. Hope you enjoy the Prairie St. game I am fine if NDSU does not want to play UND, but - BOTH schools would benefit from the game.

    2012 Recruiting

Congrats on the opportunity and best of luck..
  6. I just don't see this crippling the program... it will drop down for a period of 4/5 years, but it will quickly rebound. All the recruiting talent in the area Ohio/Penn they will be back very quickly.. everyone talks about SMU - one the major reason for the delay in SMU rebound is that they did not get invited to the Big 12. They ended up in a third tier conference after the dealth penalty.
  7. If it was brought against UND yes - but PSU no! I don't think these are major sanctions - this is a bunch of nothing.. - So they can bring in 15 versus 20 guys annually - they are still playing at home in front of 100,000 fans who are still paying the same or higher prices for the ticket. They are still going to be on TV just no bowl game. They won't even be the worst team in the Big Ten - The Big Ten has some bad football (Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota). - They pay ~ $14 million annually for the next 5 years - total revenue last year $116 million total expense last year 101 million - total profit by the athletic program last year 15 million. Total student fees or school funds last year - $0. So, PSU or the students might have to chip in to the athletic program for 4/5 years - Big deal. UND students and school fund approxiamately 40% of the total budget or $9 million. So, PSU/students might match what UND students do to make up for the short fall. - They vacated wins big deal.. you still hear about the Fab 5 and those wins don't count. Penn St. deserved the dealth penalty+ and the NCAA did not come close to that.. simple Grand Standing by the NCAA.
  8. NOTE: You could replace UND with UNA and give New Mexico St a travel partner. But, I think most of the Big Sky would rather see UND go to the WAC if possible.
  9. I just listened to the interview with Fullerton and I am not sure that I like his comments about the Big Sky loaning teams to the WAC for Oly sports and I don't think he is going to give up the 5 schools noted above.. IMO he is thinking more like 2 schools (UND and UNC). If you look at what’s left of the WAC. You have 4 schools and 2 potential BE/WAC shared schools. If you add UND and UNC you have the following. Idaho New Mexico State Denver Seattle Boise St. BE/WAC AFA BE/WAC - I have read comments about AFA joining Navy in the Big East. UND UNC The only additional change would be Idaho, Denver or Boise St. adding baseball to meet the new conference requirements noted below. Boise St. would be the most likely candidate given the additional money they would get from joining the Big East. - I think that Denver/Seattle would be OK with adding UND and UNC given no other alternatives are available (WCC has said no several time to both). - AFA and Boise get a reasonable conference that is Denver centric to reduce travel costs. - Idaho and NMSU get additional time to determine if they are going to go Indy/FCS/Other. - UND/UNC get a reasonable conference that is Denver centric and if it fails they get to go back to the Big Sky. - Big Sky reduces travel costs for most of its schools. Again, not really excited by the interview but this is what I thought of when I listened to Fullerton's interview. **************************************************************************************************************** A conference must have seven active Division I members that sponsor men’s and women’s basketball and that the conference sponsor a minimum of six men’s sports and six women’s sports. NOTE: A conference must have 6 teams to sponsor a sport (I think?). http://www.ncaa.com/...t-wac-auto-bids

I know that they liked him last year early in the fall. I thought that they moved him to FB.
  11. I thought that I would check flights out of MSP for this season - here is what I have for round trip flghts leaving on Friday and returning on Sunday: San Diego - $285 Sacramento - $451 - NOTE: SF $244 - not sure how much of a hassle it is to go from SF to Sac. Spokane - $289 Bozman - $496 Denver (UNC) - $222

    2012 Recruiting

I thought that National Signing Day was in Feb?
  13. I think the NCAA shut them down in '87 and said no home games in '88 but they could play 7 or 8 road games. But, since most player left the program SMU shutdown the team in '88.
  14. When I noted the dealth penalty and the time I was thinking about all punishments which I thought lasted for 5 years. But, looking into it a bit more I think that SMU was on probation until 1990. So, it would be four years. Yes, I am saying AAU because this was more than an athletic issue - we are talking about the leadership of the school. I can not think of a better way to get the attention of the school presidents and reminding them of the primary mission of our university system and it is not to protect athletics. (NOTE: I know that the NCAA has nothing to due with pulling this..) I really do not expect much from the NCAA.

    2012 early look

Waukesha West's Joe Schobert ran four times for a team-high 53 yards, intercepted a pass and returned five punts for 92 yards. His most spectacular run came in the second quarter, when he leaped into the air to successfully hurdle an oncoming defender. "It was fun to play so many roles," Schobert said, "because I got to practice with the best players in the state at every position." http://www.jsonline.com/sports/preps/wisconsin-football-coaches-association-allstar-game-is-a-big-win-for-the-south-qc63eqn-162490976.html

    2012 early look

On Friday, I got a letter from UND that looked like my season tickets. I was kind of execited as I open it and then it was just my champions club information - dang it - I guess I need to go do some more boating..
  17. Basketball team has had some success, I think the football team may start to turn the corner they have a couple of stud LBs/WRs and the QB looked OK last year. Plus, the largest nose guard I have ever seen play football and I believe that Denver has a large number of UND alumni in the area.
  18. Back on topic - I like the idea of a travelling trophy between UND and MSU. Anyone have any thoughts on a trophy with UNC since they are our other annual game in the Big Sky? Anyone know how do you go about getting this started?
  19. I am fine with anyone who wants to talk about Sioux sports. But, Johnnyboy looks for opportunities to posts about NDSU way too much - last weekend prefect example - we got a history lesson about NDSU option QBs and how no QB in UND could match them. I hesitate to even bring it up again. I am not interested in NDSU option QBs discussions in threads about UND 2012 football or starting a new travelling trophy. If he wants to start a thread about that he is more than welcome to so and in fact it would be helpful to me so I can ignore it.
  20. The NCAA has a bit of a mess on its hands. I understand that they might not have jurisdiction in this case. But, they have shown a willingness to get involved in some very gray areas ie (flags and nicknames). Now, if they sit back and don't get involved with a child predator who was protected by a school, athletic dept and specifically the football program. It will look like it is protecting one of the premier schools/conference in the country. In my opinion - If SMU got the hammer at 5 years. I think a 10 year hammer for the athletics department and AAU status pulled for the school. This will send a very clear message about the priorities for a University. Again, a school president, AD and football coach all knew about this and they let it continue for over a decade. It was a running joke throughout campus about "Jerry’s Kids" - it was an accepted cultural behavior.

I can not wait to see the different types of packages that they come up with both Jameer Jackson and Townson on the field at the same time.
  23. Here is a link to Jeremy Hoeck blog at the P&D that has the coaches’ salaries for USD/SDSU. It looks like UND and USD are very comparable. The only outliner would be Boots but he is also the assistant AD and has been at USD for years. So, it is reasonable to see that Jones is paid less. If, Jones/Brewster and Mussman are successful they will get paid. Little surprised by SDSU - they have definitely increased salaries in the last several years. Football program has slipped the last two years big year at SDSU - the USD game looms very large. A loss to USD could be interesting. USD: Joe Glenn, football, $127,260 Dave Boots, men’s basketball/Asst AD, $122,780 Ryun Williams women’s basketball $96,000 - Amy Williams in the coach now not sure of salary information SDSU: John Stiegelmeier, football, $150,010 Scott Nagy, men’s basketball, $152,000 Aaron Johnston, women’s basketball, $161,358 UND: Mussman, football $114,612 Jones mens basketball $86,334 Gene Roebuck women’s basketball $110,000 - Travis Brewster in the coach now not sure of salary information. NDSU Bohl football $196,668 Saul Phillips basketball $135,000 Carolyn DeHoff women’s basketball $113,400 http://pressdakotan.wordpress.com/ http://legacy.inforum.com/pdfs/0719%20Salaries.pdf

I understand your point and I was simply saying the "target" is Montana which is typically at the top of the Big Sky. I do think that other programs in the Big Sky are setting themselves up to make a run at the top: PSU - new coach, new stadium Poly - new coach, new stadium, autobid conference, more regional games. MSU - new coach, stadium upgrades It will be interesting to see how the Great West teams do in conference this year. Sell - PSU should be a good game and they have been very competitive in the Big Sky the last couple of years. It will be a good measuring stick.
