  1. What an absolute class act! There is nothing more inspiring than the human spirit! WOW! That was good!
  2. Yeah I was there too. We almost were killed that night as we were sitting just to the side of the student section. Before the game, about 5 drunk students were giving it to us pretty good in a local bar when I went up to one of them and said "next time I see you, don't be skimping on the fries".....of course being a Wisconsin student, he didnt get it until one of his redneck buddies with one tooth, burst out laughing, pointing at his buddy. The guy was totally embarrassed and wanted to take it outside and even his idiot friends told him to it down and said "well you started it, what did you expect"? Classic moment.
  3. Why I am most worried about Martin's health, I am almost equally starting to get worried about the integrity of the game. It has almost gotten to the point that hitting is not allowed anymore in hockey, at any level! As violent as the hit on Martin looked, it was a legal hit. Lets face it, Malone is a big strong kid and he is being penalized by what he is being taught to do since he could play the game. (i.e, play hard, finish checks, etc.) The one area of the game that has always seperated UND form other programs is how hard they play with speed, skill and plain hard nosed hockey which includes hitting. It is as big as part of the game as there is. Hackstol and Co. must be at their wits end on how to teach these young kids how to forcheck and strategize for a game! Does he now say..."hey guys, don't hit that hard"? Using the Maine series as an example, refs are altering the outcomes of games by what they think is how the game should be played which in my opinion, is taking away what the game is about. I hope Brad Malone keeps his head up and does not feel bad about what happened because that is how the game should be played.......and again, I certainly hope Mr. Martin gets well soon.
  4. Go Sioux....take two from BU!
  5. The NCAA and Minnesota are one in the same....it''s all about image with those people. They just want the prestige that they think they can get by creating a Big 10 conference. Let them do it. The Big 10 sucks at every other sport anyways! I mean really. At what sport are they good at......other than hockey once in a while?
  6. Lets face it the NCAA, next to our very own US Congress is the most corrupt organization on the face of the Earth. When that pile Miles Brand was alive he and the NCAA had only one thing on their mind......to make an example of a small university to show they have some sort of power. The NCAA is joke and they know it.
  7. I have two girls that play hockey and every year when it is time to try out for the team I tell them that ALL the spots are up for grabs and that every year they have to EARN there spot reguardless. Talent changes constantly, team dynamics change all the time, athletes change constantly and even if a captain comes into the season thinking he or she should just be given that "C", well then there is a problem. Even if the Lammy girls were not here, that same approach to the season should not change. Lets face it, UND womens program is evolving and moving up the ranks fast with all the high level recruits coming in and stuff like this is going to happen. Life won't be any easier. Just my two cents.
  8. I hope these girls make the USA team! http://www.usatoday.com/sports/default.htm
  9. I don't know if anyone has posted on this yet or talked about it but at the end of Friday nights game between the Gophs and Badgers, Lucia was asked on the difference between the rivalries of UND v. MN and MN v. UW. He responded in saying that he respects the Gopher v. Badger rivalry more than the UND v. MN because it is not as "vicious". This is pin-up material for the Sioux if there ever was one. It certainly reflects in how the Gophers play. I have still yet to see one of there defenseman hit anybody yet.
  10. We need this thread back at the top so RedFrog can post his videos! They are better from Woog and Mazzacko because of the reaction those two have all the time!
  11. Prpich would take punko Paukovich out behind the woodshed and whip him like a rented mule.
  12. I don't know if anyone has posted this but a buddy of mine sent this to me today. Not sure if I am doing this correctly but I'll give it a try. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/nu...4.html#comments
  13. I was at the game on Saturday. Jeez, could Hak show a little more emotion? I will say this, the best skaters on this team are Marto and Lamaroux (sp?) Those Grand Forks kids can skoot and they were making things happen.
  14. What I am encouraged most about this season so far is the offensive output. We started out slow putting pucks in the net but after last weekend that has changed. After beating them on Friday, we came back and the CC goalie had 47 saves Saturday night. THAT was encouraging. We outplaying teams most of the time. The wins will come. These young defenseman will get better as the year goes on. All in all a great weekend for the Sioux.
  15. The only problem with Punkovich is that he has a history of attitude and behavioral issues that go back a long way. This kid does not belong in a sport where a retaliation hit is a way to get even. I know a guy who coached Punko and his brother when they were young and believe me the stories never end......and don't forget the charges that brought up against him when he was around 16 or so. I am just saying there is a history with this kid. You don't just move on. The kid needs to get help.
  16. Man I hope this kid makes it. Not only would it turn his life around by accomplishing his goal of making the Hurricanes but it would be good for the game of hockey as well. What a story it would be! I remember watching him when he was with the Gophers and I think he was also on that 2004 World Junior team in Grand Forks too.......I think, but that kid was damn fast! Good luck Nate!
  17. The cup is always half full with me. Like I said, North Dakota will have a great year.
  18. Hey Sioux Rube.......thanks for the info. I am very interested in the camp. I have two girls that play and we heard about it from some Grand Forks parents off of our summer girls team. They said that it is an absolute blast for the kids. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.....Sioux7
  19. I love the talent coming in and with the returning players it could be a very good year. Especially if Eidsness turns out to be the goalie we are hoping he can be. I remember in 97' when Blais said he thought he was a year away from winning it all. Thats how this years team has to approach the season. Guns a blazin and no worries. I think they will have the right combination of youth, talent and leadership.
  20. As far as I am concerned it is and many people would agree with me. To have the best recruiting class doesn't necessarily mean by talent alone. You heard it here first. The Sioux win the WCHA outright in 2008-2009.
  21. I think the younger Toews will be a bigger impact player for the Sioux than older Jonathan was. Don't get me wrong, Jonathan is probably the most talented player that has ever come to UND, but the Little Toews's game suits UND style better and vice-versa. I can't wait to see this kid play. I think UND will have another great year. We have alot of talent back with the best recruiting class in the country coming in. Just cause they are fresman doesn't mean we can't win it all. Sometimes the younger players are so good it pushes the upper classmen to play a little harder.
  22. I will truly miss this kid. He is what Sioux Hockey is all about. Not once did I ever see TJ Oshie give up on a shift. They just don't make kids like this every day. After each shift he could barley skate off the ice and I am almost certain that is how he wants to be remembered. As we all know Sioux hockey is not what it is today because of high-end talent that we have had over the years. Sioux Hockey is about never-ending forechecking, incredible work ethic and a "Team First" mentality. That foundation was laid down years ago with those teams in the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's. He was a leader, with a boat-load of talent, but talent is not what got him to where he is with his abilities today. The kid just flat out-worked every battle with his relentless work ethic. He has a warrior mentality and a heart of a lion that I have never, ever seen in a hockey player at any level.....not to mention always recognizing that he was playing for the team and not himself. We should all feel extremley lucky to have watched him play the last 3 years. Good luck TJ. You deserve it!
