Last 2 times NDSU had losing seasons, they were able to turn the tables and recover the next year. 1963 3-5 1964 10-1 Won Mineral Water Bowl 1975 2-7 1976 9-3 Lost Grantland Rice Bowl

Sorry you feel that way, you are probably happy to see NDSU moving on. The driving force is not the luster of I-AA football, but the lack of luster remaining in Division II.
-
Most of the SCSU grads I know and people from St Cloud, don't really care about SCSU football as much as they care about hockey. They are more into the Gopher/Huskies rivalry. I have never heard one of them say anythng bad about UND or NDSU. But that is only the dozen or so that I know.

My Biased view NDSU Bison 8-3 NCC 6-1 UND 8-2 NCC 5-2 St Cloud Huskies 8-3 NCC 5-2

The point was, you assume that NDSU means a person doesn't know hockey. 50 games is pretty good. I only expected you to say around 30. Probably saw you at a few and didn't know who you were. The point is I don't give a $hit about UND hockey. Just coming back at ScottM for saying Bison fans don't know hockey. UND is not the center of universe for hockey, just because hockey is the center of the universe for UND. I am not all knowing, but I do know the most famous skater from the state of North Dakota never went to UND or played in the NHL and is not Fido Purpur. Tell me who he is, you will have my respect if you can.
-
This is turning into a smack thread. I think most of the UND fans doing the smacking(see below), probably only know a little bit about UND hockey. I saw Bochenski play for Blaine, before you guys even heard of him. I went to more hockey games last year then most of you. I am a Bison alumni, and also a Golden Gopher fan. I have autographed pucks of Cliff Purpur. I have sat against the glass for the Stanley Cup finals. I have talked hockey with Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe to name a couple. I still have my ticket stub from the last Minnesota North Star game. I have my stub from the first Minnesota Wild Game. I doubt any of you know who the most famous skater to come out of the State of North Dakota was. There are a lot of reasonable Sioux Fans on this board, and then you have ScottM, elmduf and Siouxrock(Banned).

Nausea hit when I saw the grouping. I would guess it was set up by a sly fox, the biggest brown noser in Fargo.

You may have said it better, but this is the point of why I do not think UND will move the other sports to Division I. There is no urgency or desire. If the NCAA passed a rule that all sports had to be in the same division, then UND would move everything else up. Then there would be urgency and desire. Probably
-
Kent, I just do not think UND will make the move even though they do have the facilities and budget. Most Universities have a primary sport, and at UND it is hockey. Football, basketball etc, are secondary. If the NCAA rule that considers hockey a minor sport, making it possible to have Division I hockey and other sports at a lower division changes, then UND will make the move to keep hockey at the level it is. Hockey is the center of the universe at UND

Charlie Walters column today about Troy Bell: Troy Bell
-
Bell may be a better shot than Rickert. Rickert's stock has gone down lately, and Bell's has risen. At least that is the perspective I get from reading the Pioneer Press.

Andrews lawsuit against St Lukes (Meritcare) killed his political career.

From the Forum today. Looks positive so far.

Latest rumors are Missouri-Rolla bolting to DIII and UNO headed to MIAA. Gang Green conference schedule could be USD, SCSU, MSU-Mankato, UMD, Augie. The way things are going, Josef's and Moohead Vo-Tech could be DII within a few years! hee hee.

He will have to wait until 18, because I don't think the NHL has a Gretzky loophole. Gretzky I believe started in the WHA when he was 17. Gretzky was hired as an employee of the owner of the Indianapolis Racers, not by the team.

Some background on the Canadiens coaching changes. Blake retired after the 67-68 season with 8 Stanley Cups. Canadiens missed the playoffs in 1970. Ruel was release after 23 games in the 1970-71 season. MacNeil became interim head coach and won the Cup. Bowman became head coach in 1971-72, won his first of 9 Cups in 1973.
-
Scotty Bowman is also one of the coaches in Montreal's run. 1973 Montreal 4-2 Scotty Bowman 1971 Montreal 4-3 Al MacNeil 1969 Montreal 4-0 Claude Ruel 1968 Montreal 4-0 Toe Blake

Rickert's slide does not surprise me. In the state basketball tournement that I saw him play in. I did not think he was even the best player. Joe Mauer of Cretin Derham Hall was my pick as the best player. Zack Kiekow of Osseo, and Eric Crawford of Tartan were also great. Mo Hargrow of the Gophers may be the best NBA players to come out of that class. Mauer was signed by Florida State to play football and drafted by the Twins with the #1 pick in the baseball draft. Rickert does not have the weight to throw around that Beasley has at PF, and people think he is too slow for a SF. Rickert does have a nice touch from outside and is a good ball handler.

If the conference begins with 6 or 7 teams, that leaves room for 3 or 4 more, if more NCC teams move up. The Mid-Con looks more and more likely. Once the Mid-Con gets a new commissioner, more talk will happen. What is the possibility of the new western conference becoming an multi-sports conference, with UC-Davis being a football only member?
-
I am not going to drop names, but working accross the street from the Excel, you would be surprised who you bump into and talk to some days. I don't think this one hasn't even hit the Pioneer Press yet.
-
Latest rumors on the Streets of St Paul are that Manny Fernandez may be replacing Patrick Roy.

Update on the new western I-AA conference from the Fargo Forum:

List of top 20 goalies per number of shutouts. Martin and Eddie will pass Roy next year. Can Brodeur get 39 before he retires? If he plays 8 more years and gets five per year it looks likely. Heard he is very dedicated to his workout program. Goalies 1. Terry Sawchuk 103 2. George Hainsworth 94 3. Glenn Hall 84 4. Jacques Plante 82 5. Tiny Thompson 81 6. Alex Connell 81 7. Tony Esposito 76 8. Lorne Chabot 73 9. Harry Lumley 71 10. Roy Worters 67 11. Patrick Roy * 66 12. Ed Belfour * 65 13. Martin Brodeur * 64 14. Turk Broda 62 15. Dominik Hasek 61 16. John Ross Roach 58 17. Clint Benedict 55 18. Bernie Parent 54 19. Ed Giacomin 54 20. Ken Dryden 46
