Shocked that UND did not take the Ice for the championship game. I was looking for the Green Machine, and out came the Maroon and Gold. Awed everytime I look out the window and see one of the greatest arena's in the country. Home of the Minnesota Wild, 4-3 series winners over the Mighty Avs.

I am looking out my window at the house of "Shock and Awe", The Xcel Arena. Home of the Wild and site of the 2002 NCAA Frozen Four.

Message from the Gov From the Gov

I watched until it was 5-1, end of the 2nd period. Eddie didn't help his cause with 2 penalties. Wasn't one of his best nights. Reminded me of Belfours first game with Dallas vs the Minnesota Wild. Philly also came to play so it was a combination of things.

Any Idea where the weapons of mass destruction could be hidden?

There are still some good players on the list that are not committed yet. Nuness, Reck and Bobby Harris.

June 22 & 23 in Fargo. Former UND Hockey player Dave Christian has been a participant in past years. The full lineup has not been announced yet. Rick Barry & Carl Eller are among the names committed so far this year. It is great to see athletes giving back to the community. There is usually some nice memorabilia at the Charity auction and the Card Show at the Holiday Inn. Plus some good sports stories at the Banquet. http://rogermarisgolf.com/

How does he compare to Ferguson or the "player to be named later" from Williston?
-
UM Crookston also should be added to this new conference to raise the strength of schedule. It's not every year that a team can claim to having defeated Ellendale and Crookston.
-
Some good stuff, I appreciate the list and the time. Thanks,

Just out of curiousity, who did have the first American in the NHL. I know the first North Dakotan was Cliff "Fido" Purpur back in the mid 1930's. Who was the first Minnesotan.

I wouldn't put it past Eddie if he were the Gov. How safe from Eddie's ax would the job of the person asking the question be?

Beasley's position in the draft will depend on how many underclassmen declare. I could see the Lakers picking him. Some of their role players are getting old. Rick Rickert is pretty far down on the list of underclassmen. If all of them declare and the draft goes in order, Rickert could end up with the Timberwolves.

South St Paul Jinx, too many former South St Paul players on New Hampshire. Gophers win!
-
With all the awards Beasley has won, his high scoring average etc. How would UND fans rank him with the all time Sioux basketball players. Is he at the same level as Phil Jackson, higher or lower or about the same. Who had the most impact on UND basketball at the time they played?

The perception I have from living in Fargo and Grand Forks, is that Grand Forks seems to have more fans that are willing to watch hockey at all levels. Not just their kids games. Now living in the Twin Cities, Grand Forks more resembles the Minnesota hockey attitude than Fargo as a whole. Grand Forks goes back to Fido Purpur, first ND, NHL player. Fargo and Moorhead are very good hockey towns. Moorhead again is more like Grand Forks. Moorheads HS following is great. They always have a large following show up at the state tourney. Omaha's success did not surprise me. Yes I lived there also, and was a Lancer Season Ticket holder. Tougher ticket than the Cornhuskers at the time. The oldtimers that you meet around town would talk about the Omaha Knights (1939-1970s). Gordie Howe, Marcel Pronovost, Terry Sawchuk all played there. So Omaha did have some Hockey history. In Fargo the talk is more baseball, Roger Maris, Frank Gravino, etc, or Bison Football. I am not an expert, just the perception I have.

skateshattrick you are trying to put words into my mouth. Hockey participation does not equal hockey fans, aka soccer in the USA.
-
Fargo probably is not the place to go for hockey fans. The UND fans that live in Fargo have a short drive up I-29 for games. I would think Grand Forks would have a better chance with a team, even with UND in town. From my point of view there are more hockey fans in Grand Forks.
-
Do you have any records on what Grand Forks has done with Minor League or Junior Teams?
-
In today's Fargo Forum it looks like Randy Hedberg was the mystery applicant, and not Dale Lennon. Lack of DI experience worked against Hedberg.
-
Omaha's success in hockey is not surprising. The city has a great hockey tradition. Gordie Howe, Marcel Pronovost and Terry Sawchuk all played for the Omaha Knights. The Omaha Lancers sold out every night for years. It was only a matter of time before UNO joined the mix. UNO never really drew fans for their other sports. Basketball fans go to Creighton games, and Football fans flock to Lincoln.

It was actually Concordia, NE, not Concordia-Moorhead.
-
It is the tree of reality. NDSU last year defeated Winona St, a power in the Northern Sun.
-
It is too bad the NCAA selection committee doesn't see the Northern Sun being as bad as we see them. The committee looks at Concordia's 9-2 record and says WOW.
-
Sometimes you just need to repeat yourself. Concordia is a Division II school in the Northern Sun. They beat Crookson 48-7 last year. Their only losses were to Duluth and Winona.
