I don't get this "under talented" thing. Did Muss recruit so many players that were not offered by other schools? I get poor coaching, but it seems Muss was recruiting the same group of kids other schools were offering as well so I'm not sure about the lack of talent.

I think that is correct. I seem to remember it reported on WDAY at the start of spring ball that practices were closed to the public. I think any open practices are the exception.

That women's bb program is in, by far, the worst shape of any of the Dakota schools. Who would take that job after seeing the results of the last coach and Dorn still there, without over paying?

Holy s**t, set aside speech which is commonly held as "offensive", "lewd", or "pornographic" for a moment, if speech that is deemed disrespectful by administrators is now the standard, that opens up a whole new world of censorship.

I remember when colleges were places that encouraged and defended free speech. There was nothing inherently offensive about any of the text of that banner per se. Absolutely pathetic.

Oh, don't misunderstand, I am all for it if the staff deems it necessary (they obviously do). The question that comes to my mind though, is there must be a significant amount of what Bubba would probably deem as recruiting "misses" in there. Should you really have to put division 1 football players through remedial classes of football 101 with day 1 class starting with "stance". And tomorrow we are gonna learn how to "tackle"? Muss really screwed the pooch. If Bubba takes this team to the upper half of the conference this year he should be coach of the year.

Spending a little time each day in position breakouts is one thing, but the level of time and attention being paid to this tells me Bubba must be thinking this is a big problem.

I'm just looking forward to watching the new systems in practice. That will be the first refreshing change. However, the last few years have broken me about drawing conclusions from what I'm seeing in spring ball. I've been excited and optimistic before. Until I see a UND running game that Big Sky defenses must respect, and a UND defense that Big Sky offenses don't tear apart, it is difficult to get too fired up about what I'm seeing vs the same colored jersey. I can't wait for the season to start to know where the program is truly at.

It is a sad state of affairs if students at the ac actually need to go to the library to research.

Bubba also gave a good reminder for everyone that implementing a new offensive and defensive system will be a big challenge. This team would have its work cut out for them if they were returning to a system with responsibilities they were already familiar with, let alone learning new ones. I'll have to keep that in mind as I watch them this spring and fall camp.

He took a $20k pay cut for the job according to Izzo last night. That difference represents over 10% of his total salary. If being a head coach isn't enough of a draw to take that pay cut, is there another factor we don't know about?

I share your optimisim, but it is worth noting Bubba has won exactly zero games here. Whether or not we think he's on the right track or not is a matter of pure speculation, and we afforded Muss and Jones that same same bit of rope prior to hanging himself with it. If Muss had taken 2nd place in the BSC, he would still have his job. I'm not sure I've seen anyone make the case why Jones should be fired for those results. Lots of style of play and intangible arguments, but bottom line it was a good season and a good group of players.

He had 9 pts with 30 seconds to play. If you told me that before the game I would have said the ac had no shot to win. Looks like they developed some depth during the season. Someone should let Coach Jones and his staff know there's no law prohibiting that.

The AC has had a good season. Much better than UND. But UND didn't just beat them, it wasn't close. It looked like the ac didn't even belong. Hard to rationalize that away. I hope they win it all. It would be satisfying for the UND players to know they schooled a champion.

There's no doubt about that.

How often is there a clear cut, heads and shoulders above the pack, great team at the top of the league every year? If that's the case most years, I could see wanting to protect that team (forgetting for a moment the validity of a quality team actually needing protection if you think they have a shot at winning a first round tournament game). I just don't think protecting a team should be the point of the league tournament. Putting on a quality league tournament is an end in itself. Plus, usually the teams that get the 1-2 seeds are usually only separated by a couple of games at the end of season standings. I have a big problem with a stated or unstated goal of tournament organizers of protecting a regular season champion that might have won the league by a game or two, or even a tie breaker. If that's the case, then why engage in the charade of a league tournament? Award the bid to the champion and be done with it.

Why would you turn down more practice and game time opportunity for the rest of the team? Does the prospect of losing a game when you are shorthanded outweigh the opportunity to lengthen the season for the rest of the team? I don't see the downside here.
