  1. I don't like the conference winner hosting. The advantages for the hosting team are just too numerous in my opinion. Also makes it more difficult for the fans of the rest of the teams in the tournament field to plan travel. That said, I don't think it would matter at all where Weber played this year.
  2. If it were the UND MBB game pre-empting that NHL game I would be very happy. It would be meaningful for the team, the staff, and the marketing department. Let's get it done.
  3. Do you really not "understand" or do you just not agree? Shoveling snow isn't below me. I do it at home all winter. I don't do it at work because that isn't my role. People would wonder what was wrong if a vp was doing the work that we pay the warehouse guys for. Others would look at it in much the same fashion as the general public looked at the team doing it, "what the heck are they doing? there's something wrong there if they have to shovel snow to get on their field". You obviously have disagreed from the beginning, which is fine. But the fact that so many viewed it as a symptom that something was amiss within this program cannot be ignored. The end result supported that observation, I think.
  4. I would take it a step further and say beating Weber home or away at this point would even be a better win than the ac.
  5. If beating a summit team is a signature win...
  6. Wouldn't be a bad idea to do a statewide tour with all the trophies like the ac has done with theirs? Was something like that done after the national championship? I don't recall.

IALTO I do think It's high time we start worrying more about the recruiting analysis of the teams that have been kicking butt in conference and stop tweaking the nose of a 3 time defending champion though.

I feel your pain. The problem isn't WDAY. They are fulfulling their contractual responsibilities (to UND) and serving their larger business needs in their core market (NDSU coverage). The significance of UND fans in Fargo is overstated. Fargo media would be happy to cash in on that cash cow if it gave the milk some folks on this board seems to think it has. Compared to what they get from wall to wall bison coverage (outside of contractual obligations to UND) it just doesn't pay. That being said, UND needs to cultivate UND evangelists through all media outlets-TV, radio, web, social-throughout the state. People that are willing to hype UND athletics with passion and enthusiasm to the public This type of infrastructure should have been in the cultivation process throughout the transition. Build people like that in every market throughout the state and they will build a loyal following. However, it must start in Grand Forks. If you don't have regional media in your home base that is setting the standard, you've got a problem.

That's fine. But that would be characterized then as an "unconfirmed" partial offer.

Ok. Which is whom, and where was it published? I was no journalism major, but aren't those are key elements of a confirmation?

I watched him a lot this year and will share my opinion of him in person but not on here. edit: was it confirmed somewhere the ac offered him a partial?

This has no place in the recruiting thread. Mods?

You're making it too complicated. If he's a player there, everyone will see it. Similarly, I know what type of d2 player Shannon Burnell was. Does that guarantee success at FCS? Certainly not. But that doesn't stop me from wishing he were on the UND roster today. Flawed logic and all.

I don't know what the staff thought of him. Again, I'm not even suggesting they're making a mistake here. Your analysis of the staff's perspective is probably accurate. I'm just saying it didn't bother me at all that no other programs offered him. I've seen that happen too many times before.

You've got me confused with someone else. You won't find a post from me preaching about Wilkie. My post was about recruiting philosphy in general, not Wilkie specifically, and that opinion was first espoused today. However, if Wilkie is successful at SW (and we have no idea at this point), I'll reiterate it would neither be the first time nor the last that multiple FCS programs "missed the boat" on a d2 player (see the names I referenced earlier).

I love the "what if" game. What if they're running wishbone? Run N Shoot? We will find out soon enough. edit: if the SIU QB rushing stats are any indication, I would say probably no too relying on the QB to run much. Unless of course Bubba wants to go in an entirely different direction. How did he use his QBs at Duluth? I don't recall.

I"m also not willing to shape an entire recruiting philosophy regarding the QB position, based on the assumption that the O-line will continue being unable to protect and therefore we must recruit "athlete" at the QB position rather than simply "QB".

I'm not making the argument he should have been offered. I am saying I'm not dismissing his ability to play by virtue of his other offers, or lack thereof. What FCS offers did Todd Kovash have? Or Kory Wahl? Or Phillip Moore, Shannon Burnell, or Jed Perkerewicz? I would take every single one of them on this team. Today.

    2014 Recruiting

When an FCS player doesn't get the FBS offers he's looking for we call him a "steal". When a d2 player doesn't get the offers he's looking for it is "validation". Do I need to start naming NCC players that would have been impact players on a national FCS level?
  21. Are you making the case he should have applied?

that sucks. 6'6 285 with a frame that hasn't even bulked up yet, and he can move.

If they honor his scholarship what a great selling point to other transfers. Even if you never participate in camp they will continue to pay for your education.

I thought his knee was injured prior to coming here because if I recall correctly he never actually fully participated in camp.

Why would he get his education paid for? Would they hold a scholarship for a transfer that never played a down? Did he even make it through camp?
