  1. Great job by the Bison defending down low in the second half. Good luck to them.
  2. Rumor has it that Kraft Field home of UND baseball is going to have artifical turf. At a pricetag of about 800,000.00. Anybody else hear this?
  3. Looking at the list of players made me wonder what the starting lineup would be next fall. What's the offensive line going to look like? Does UND have the horses upfront to get the job done? Maybe he is not done recruiting. I'd bet he would like another JC offensive lineman. Also does anybody think there will be any changes on offense?
  4. What kind of progress is being made with the practice facility? Anybody got any updates.
  5. We should leave the decision about the playing SU to UND's adminstration. How important is it to them. Gothman is right about his last statement about supporting your school. But if the people of this state know UND wants to play SU in athletics I believe public opinion will slowly turn against SU. Our Legislatures will eventually see who is stonewalling the games. I think we'll see games played between the 2 schools in minor sports soon. That will take the pressure off SU In potential football games with UND.
  6. I go over to Bisonville and read the posts. And some maybe alot of the stuff they say is over the edge. But they do fight hard for there University. When they think SU is getting the short end of the stick when it comes to funding or majors they are the first ones to complain to the State Board or to the Legislsture. We UND supporters should do the same. Who cares what they think. There is only a few thing that we can do that would make them happy. It's keeping our mouths shut or just plain going away. This thread is about state involment in sporting events between the 2 schools. Does the UND adminstration want this issue pressed. If they do we should do our part by supporting the bill in Bismarck.
  7. First I think UND will succeed in the transition to D1 with or without SU on our schedule in any sport. But I am pro UND and if it helps UND having the state get involved in playing SU I am for it. I ask this question has not having them as a rival hurt UND in enrollment, recruiting, prestige. If it has I will enthusiastically support the bill in Bismarck. I'm just a fan on the outside looking in with no knowledge on what kind of shape UND is in. As many posters have said on this topic state involment in these matters is nothing new. When state employees are acting against the states best interest it is there duty to step in and give a little adult supervision. And I am not saying NDSU has done anything wrong but I think it's pretty clear they do not want to play UND in any sport. What government get's involved in is always in the eye of the beholder. Remember the Terry Schiavo case in Florida. Congress was called back to session while on Easter recess to try to keep Terry alive. Was that government involment where it shouldn't have been? Again if UND feels it's in it's best interest to push the SU issue I'm all for it.
  8. If the Gophers called Taylor about a game in the next 3 seasons do you think SU would find a spot for them on on there shedule? Taylor would find room for the Gophers. Wouldn't he.

Now I am being told by by the same person that Ryan will not be playing next fall. Sorry for any confusion. I'm bummed about it.
  10. Boom times ahead for North Dakota and especially the GF region? In August 2002 then House Majority Leader and North Dakota native Dick Armey R-Texas had this to say about a shift in government spending. {To the victor goes the spoils. ] Senator Conrad was the 2nd Senator to endorse President elect Obama for President the first being fellow Illinois Senator Dick Durbin. Senator Dorgan also endorsed Obama. Obama has spoken highly of the 2 Senators from North Dakota. What does this mean for the future of the GF Airbase or UND Aerospace or other programs at UND like the Med School? Will we see more cooperation between the Air Force and CAS? Will the US Border Patrol continue to grow? How will this effect the research coridor set up at UND and NDSU? Does the GF region have the the most to gain from anybody in the state from an Obama adminstration? GF took 2 major blows with the downsizing of the Base ond the flood of 97. How many people did we lose 10,000? The city has bounced back remarkably well. The whole state of North Dakota should benefit from this. As Dick Armey says [To the victor goes the spoils.]
  11. This years mens bb team is a great example of a team playing up or down to the level of your opponent. It made me think back to a game I played in against the GF Airbase team in city league. The base team was alot better than we were. We played hard and beat that base team. My father at that time worked on base and brought home the base newspaper. In base paper there coach was asked about that loss to us. He said we got beat by a team that wasn't that good. Hard work can win you some games. For years I would go the Hyslop to play noon basketball. On the wall in the practice gym there is a copy of John Woodens pyramid of success. A timeless guide for not only sports but life. All coaches should have a copy of this. On Woodens web site you'll find a copy of it. http://www.coachwooden.com/
  12. I don't think I've ever seen Chuck Norris lose a fight. But if the fight is in Chicago and Ditka has his Ginsu's all bets are off.
  13. Yes he will bring his Ginsu knifes- The sharpest knifes on the market. And they have been for the past 25 years. http://www.genuineginsu.com
  14. If the fight takes place in Chicago I'll take Ditka. A dog or a Bear in this case is always alittle tougher in his own back yard.
  15. Thanks for correcting me and responding to my post. My main point was about the Fargo media. I wonder if any one who played on one of those 2 Sioux bowl teams has any thoughts about not being voted National champs. Did they feel cheated? Maybe there isn't much you can say.
  16. Instate jealousy brings out the worst in people. All you have to do is bring up UND on Bisonville and it turns people into the nite of the living dead. And I'm sure most of the people on Bisonville are decent people. UND is in transition and after beating USF it would be yesterdays news. Like other posters have said about SDSU getting beat by LaCrosse, SDSU recovered. UND is looking for games or maybe UND is doing another school a favor. Things like that do happen in college athletics. UND is proably looking for some favors to.
  17. Homers in the media made me think back to the 1960's when longtime Fargo sportscaster Jim Adelson would make his weekly football picks. The story goes as I remember it was that Adelson picked the Sioux to beat the Bison to motivate the Bison. The Bison won the game and one of the Bison players was going to confront Adelson about his pick. The Bison player had to be told that he did it for us. This is what I remember but I could be wrong. Did the media play a role in NDSU winning national championships and not UND? The media in North Dakota has always been centered in Fargo. What I'm talking about is the bowl games played by both schools in the 1960's and early 1970's. From 1964 to 1972 four regional bowl games were played that led up to a wire service poll to determine the final champion of D2's predecessor, the NCAA College Division. A playoff series was started in 1973 to determine the D2 Champion. From 1965 to 1972 NDSU played in 4 bowl games wining all of them. The media voted NDSU national champions in 65,68 and 1969. UND played in 2 bowl games 1966 and 1972 winning both and were not voted national champions. What role did the Fargo media play if any in NDSU winning mythical championships and not UND? But I do not have any idea what media voted back then. And it doesn't hurt to have the media in your back yard.

I was told by someone very close to Ryan Chappell that he will be playing for the Fighting Sioux next fall. He told me that he would like to play wide receiver. With Bamba and Chappell at wideouts that would be Big 10 speed at the wideouts. Won't that be fun to watch. He also said Ryan has very good hands.
  20. Very good post. SU may have a better team than UND but in rivalry games the best team does not always win. The Dbacks for the Sioux are coming on. They might get a few picks off of Mertens. Southern Utah was lucky to come out of the Alerus with a W. A fake punt and a questionable roughing the passer call won it for them.
  21. Come on, give the coaches some time to recruit to this level.
  22. In Southern Utahs last 2 games they scored 26 points on UC Davis and 41 on Cal Poly. That's alot of points. The Sioux held them to 15 points not bad. I was at the game and the Sioux defense should be proud of it's effort. When you lose impact players like Dressler and Chappel on offense it's going to hurt. The coaches have these guys playing hard. They haven't backed down from anybody this year. We will get better.
  23. I think the average fan get's a little more excited for the night games. Monday night football games are more exciting than early day games in the NFL. Major colleges have 11am starts which I don't think I'd like. But I guess it's what you get use to.
  24. Made it to Carbondale. Went for dinner and had a nice chat with the manager of a place called Moes. Local radio station has tailgating tent at the game. He gave us free passes to go to the tent. He says it's free beer. There's good people where ever you go. I'm kinda thinking our guys are going to be really jacked up and come out with a W.
