What was the deal w/ Halliday? Yes, he was not drafted in his eligible NHL draft year. Did coaches tell him he needed another year in the USHL (which he clearly needed, speed, getting used to his size) and he took offense? How is a guy this good + skill and size going to crapy OSU? I am perplexed... What the hell happened here?

WM or Mavs please win it all this year! I can't root for Denver and Minnesota. Any nobody, repeat nobody wants Michigan to win. Haha.

Look how many 1-goal games there has been this tournament. What have we learned for next year?!

2022-23 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
SiouxForever replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
It'll be an interesting off-season for UND (Hakstol voice) no question.... Gavin Hain - I think Berry asks him to come back next year for a few reasons: 1. He's 21 years old only... will Gavin have a pro career? Sure, is it in the NHL? Probably not... 2. Injuries have been consistent (while unfortunate) throughout his time at UND, this year was a bad break (no pun intended) 3. UND needs a leader next year with some sand paper finish that is pesky to play against, can kill penalties, and can score anywhere from 6-12 goals next year. That person is Gavin Hain 4. UND coaching staff didn't retain any players for their super-senior/covid year prior. Why? Who cares, they're the coaches and make the decision(s) wrong or right. Personally, I think it was a mistake not to have at least Collin Adams and Jackson Keane not return for this year's team. NEXT YEAR - WHAT WE KNOW/WHAT WE DON'T KNOW: Jake Sanderson - Gone 100% - Ready for the NHL.. Tyler Kleven - The biggest risk/ ? - Does he leave? I hope NOT. I think Tyler and his parents/advisors have enough self-awareness to know that he will not play in the NHL with Ottawa next year given their D-core depth. (checks hockeydb.com > looked up Jacob Bernard-Docker, *see Jacob has ONLY played "8" NHL games this year (he's pretty good!) Tyler - you reading this?! Chris Jandric - With JS leaving, bring him back for next year, 100%. He'll be 24 years old next year, big deal. Enjoy your last year in college in Forks and win a National Title. Your pro career will always be there and can wait 1 year. You're only in college once - how !@#!$ was it playing in that no crowd Albany rink on Thursday night? You'll get a taste of that in "some" towns in the life of grinding AHL players. Ashton Calder - Bring him back 100% if wants to come back and not start his pro career... No disrespect, he had 1 goal ONLY from Feb 25th - through March 24th. Not good enough, not his fault, slump steaks happen. Also, he is a shooter first and can make some smart plays/passing and dishes to players when open and available. Bottom line, GET THIS KID a passer/playmaker on his line next year if he comes back. Period. Who is actually coming in for next year freshmen? Locks = Blake, Mclaughlin, Dylan James (have to bring him in) + Spicer (coaches could push him back and say, go tear up juniors for 1 more year, but his style of play could benefit the team next year. Why? Cause injuries always happen and UND has been cursed with injuries the last few years). Goalies - All hail Sweden, Hellsten is your guy! In addition, Hedquist comes in + UND coaching staff gets the best goalie available that "they" think would be a proper fit next year and brings that guy in! Harrison Feeney (depth/practice goalie)...and Kaleb Johnson (hometown kid etc.) you want to play college hockey for a team and prove yourself? Great, transfer IMHO, just saying... sounds to be a great/fantastic kid, and again, GF local boy. Know of the family, don't know him. I think he needs to decide what's best for him moving forward. This seasons surprises + positives: Luke Bast - Unreal second half improvement. Waited and earned his time with JS injury etc. has speed, transitions the puck well, swagger on the PP and can score, not much panic in his game. Literally, would be a top 4 D in the country for ANY college hockey team next year. Matteo Costantini - Great freshie campaign, feel like the kid is a sponge and buys into whatever the coaches tell him and does it. Have a good off-season in the weight room for added strength and work on skill and puck protection skill drills for next year. Will be a force in Soph. season. Cooper Moore - Has all the tools, skating, playmaking, composure. Take the off-season on strength + skill development will = how dominate you'll be for your Junior and Senior year UND. Sky is the limit, up to you... Jake Schmaltz - Weight room 100% and work with your cousin Nick on how he developed the back-check stick lift get puck and go the other way skill as he (Nick) isn't a physical/strength dominant force, but again, learn this, and you'll add a tool to your skill toolset. Brent Johnson - Stayed the course, trusted the coaches and the process. Has all the tangibles and intangibles 100%. Weight room 100% for strength given he's had strength development periods stalled due to injuries. #13 #20 #11 - All bought in, made commitments and all grew their games individually. Everyone UND hockey fan noticed this. Keep going! Room for improvement: #28 - Gotta find that mean component in your DNA and add that to your game for next year. So much potential, need that tenacity. MMA classes this off-season? Time to get mean if you want to play in the NHL or do you want to be a future partner at an accounting firm? #29 - Just needs to continue on speed and quickness + skill development game for college hockey. You're Chris VandeVelde 2.0. And that's not a bad thing. CV had a huge jump going into his Soph. year. Why? Speed and quickness developed. He didn't have the speed/quickness yet as a freshie to dominate college hockey. It takes time. Biggest X-Factor for next year - MITCHELL MILLER - GP 50 - G 30 A 38 PTS 68 Bring him back? Teach cancel culture a lesson and society? Work with him, get him involved in the community, on campus, but make him lead by action, not the adults telling him what to do. Or is this water under the bridge? Discuss or provide "critical thought theory" :-) -

what’s the ticket situation for Friday night? I see on the Xcel Energy Center website I’m not able to buy game two ticket? What’s going on here?! -
Can someone do a quick recap/post and list all the teams who’s seasons are over? Thx.
-
He certainly will go pro but if his old man and Bubs could convince him to go to UND next year for 1 kick at the can for a Natty, that would be nothing but amazing. I’ll give this less than a 15% chance of happening.

No…2 minute boarding call. 100%. Yes, “looked” cleaned and was a great hit but have to call a boarding call there. 5 min. penalty call was excessive and was bs, I’ll agree there. Regardless, what were the shots? Red River was the > team last night. They’re rolling, their skill, speed, puck movement, execution looked real good! Haven watched too much high school hockey this year, but people here said RR has had slow starts and that gets them in trouble. In state so far, look like they’re answering the bell there. Lastly, with Tim’s kid (Carson) injured, their depth looks solid. Carson is a good small/player. I wouldn’t even know he was out of the lineup the last 2 games while watching on tv. Think the two best teams are in the final tonight So that’s good to see! -

So can someone quickly type up the bracket/teams for the quarterfinals. Thanks! Haven't followed too much Nodak hockey this year. Never mind - Bob Gillen has it updated on the website now. -

Don't worry, EF will have more goals and "maybe" more points than Jake Sanderson. Who saw that coming? I realize JS has missed a boat load of games, but impressive. EF with 9 goal already for a D? That's a pretty good year, I don't care what your name is. Should add there's no lack of scoring by committee on this year's team. Looking at roster + stats. Pretty fun to look at. -
Has Sended played a shift?
-
Forgot Budy too. I don’t care what people think of him, but if he was healthy he’d easily crack the top 12 for the line up. UND has faced a lot of adversity this season, no question. Have also shot themselves in the foot a lot too! Cornell series will haunt them when it’s all said and done.
-
UND just keep winning and have the freshman continue to improve in the second half here and week to week. St. Cloud isn’t a good hockey team imo. Up 3-0 after 1 against Denver and you collapse? Yikes.

Bast will fit in just fine without Sanderson as the team takes on Omaha and then Colorado College. Ness (1st goal, about time...) should spark some confidence. Kunz foot speed is improving for the college game, it's a WIP. Need all the freshman to keep improving and pushing forward. Gaber, Ford, and Calder all had great weekends. Need more from Judd! Period Jammer, effort was there, had great foot speed going on Friday night. Sweden goalie back in net next weekend, split the goalies at this point if it makes sense. Ride the hot goalie. -

Score first and lay an egg afterwards and make tons of mistakes on the PP. Night and day difference from being sharp yesterday and playing a fantastic first period to playing an average maybe below average period. Scoring first while not playing great, should have fed off the crowd and energy to get going. This is going to be an ugly night. I hope I am wrong! -

Terrible cycle low play by Kleven on the wall that lead to St. Cloud getting the puck and sending their guy out of the box on a breakaway. UND making a lot of mistakes so far. -
Most guys produced on the score sheet and will get going moving forward. Time for Judd and Kunz to get some points tomorrow.
-
Better keep the gas on in the 3rd. Win the period and win tomorrow. St. Cloud hasn’t been on the road in 2 months and this isn’t an olympic sheet at the ralph. Sweden goalie should have been in months ago. Like I complained about.
-
Pretty harsh on Kunz. Give him some time. Needs to develop foot speed for the college level, no different than what Chris VV had to develop to adjust/adapt to. Kunz protects the puck and uses his body well. Let him work on foot speed, stamina, and offense skills. Let’s see where he’s at next year at this time and onward.

Ride the Sweden goalie moving forward. Berry and coaching staff need to take things day by day. Also a split this weekend is a must. One goal on the whiteboard for the rest of the year “Make the NCAA tourney.” -

Is UND the only team in the NCHC to have a super senior from last year not come back? Let’s start there with an issue and then + letting Rizzo, Morrow walk and go elsewhere. -

Goal for the year is/was to the make the tournament. Imo, that’s what success looks like for this team. TBD.
