The Herald yesterday said that the "endowment" at the UND Foundation was $106 million. At the end of fiscal year 2009, the UND Foundation had net assets of $144 million. No they wouldn't. The only thing the University owns is the logo (s). (I assume the geometric logo is owned as well.) They aren't and can't give the rights to the logo to anyone but one or both of the Sioux tribes. I doubt they will even had that shred of decency.

Hey I might even be swayed if you'd actually save money. I just think that you'll be adding MORE overhead with a bigger organization. It's tough enough to limit that in a private business let alone a tax supported institution. On the other hand the chamber of commerce types are going to look at attrition and see that there will be less jobs in Fargo/Grand Forks.

I don't doubt their ability to prohibit the manufacture of new merchandise using the Sioux trademarked logo. I wonder how legal it would be for them to get that merchandise pulled. Of course that would depend if there's any merchandise left. On the other hand the ONLY thing UND owns is the University of North Dakota and the trademarked logos. (I assume the bug-ugly geometric logo is trademarked.) Anyone can produce a Sioux Hockey t-shirt with a different picture on it. You can also say ND Hockey. The NCAA agreement says that the logo must be retired OR given to one of the Indian tribes. By all rights UND should relinquish the rights to the logo to the spirit lake tribe. I'd love to buy Jersey's made on the reservation.
