  1. I don't think anybody is really arguing that Jones should go. But there's not really any getting around the fact that his future may depend on how this class performs the rest of this season, and next season. After next year, it's going to be an almost completely new team, and if Jones' career winning percentage is comparable to what it is now, that's probably not going to be good enough to extend his contract again IMO.
  2. I assume he's being recruited as an athlete rather than a quarterback, but I don't know at which position he's projected. OLB or safety perhaps?
  3. UND offeree Jordan Hein of Perham has been named first team all state at quarterback by the AP. Nice honor.
  4. I'm not going to judge Jones' performance so far, but he's currently 87-100 in year seven. And virtually the entire roster will turn over after next season. I believe there's a fair amount of pressure to do reasonably well this season.
  5. While I believe it's far too early to judge Brewster as a head coach, I also don't believe it's accurate to simply chalk up the current struggles to being an inevitable byproduct of the division I transition. SDSU and Florida Gulf Coast both managed to come out of the transition very nicely, and neither entered their transition with UND's pedigree as a longtime (20-plus years) dII superpower. Coming out of the transition with a good team can be done. UND just didn't do it as successfully as some other programs for whatever reason.
  6. One thing to keep in mind is that several of UND's better players missed too much time (or were too hobbled when they did play) to be seriously considered for all-conference honors, such as Kleason, Goodman, Daryl Brown and McGill.
  7. FWIW, her bio at undsports.com says she scored 20.6 ppg as a senior.
  8. I believe the only players on the roster who could possibly have been considered big scorers at the high school level (20+ ppg in at least one season) are Smart and Houdek, and the caliber of their competition had something to do with the high school scoring of both. When you are constantly recruiting players who scored 8-14 ppg at the high school level, it's probably not a big surprise that they struggle to score at this level. In terms of recruiting offensive talent, it's been a slow but steady decline since the Langen-Kimbrough years.
  9. 38 UND 64 Duquesne final. UND beat Duquesne at home last year. And this marks the second time in three games that UND has failed to score 40 points.
  10. Exactly. To me, that is why the 100 mile radius policy is so incredibly flawed.
  11. How's this for irony? The Big Ten is reportedly targeting North Carolina (and Kansas) as its 15th and 16th members. Kill must be terriified!
  12. Yes. And the latter two are presumably walk-ons, so clearly there's a lot of recruiting to be done in the next couple of years.

Hardin is UND's only first or second team selection. He was named to the first team: http://bigskyconf.com/news/2012/11/20/FB_1120124011.aspx
  14. I'm not sure it was ever mentioned on this board. It was in this game article from the Crown College game last week: http://www.grandfork...ublisher_ID/40/
  15. It was mentioned in a Herald article last week that he's redshirting this year.
  16. The UND defense gave up about 37 points and 512 yards per game vs. FCS competition this year. Obviously it's very difficult to win many games giving up that many points. And while I'm sure some transfers will be brought in prior to next season, that's never really worked very well, at least not at UND. So ultimately the question is: is there enough talent in the program right now to assemble a competent defense next year?
  17. It wouldn't surprise me if Breitbach moves on after this season. He was a finalist for the head coaching job at Southwest State two years ago. It would seem his stock is higher now than it was then given UND's offensive output this year. He could possibly get a head coaching job at the NAIA or dII/dIII level.
  18. 34 UND 73 Iowa St. final Ouch.
  19. Without looking too closely at it, I'm guessing that as it pertains to football, this is Meierkort's doing. I'm pretty sure all the current or former football players implicated were recruited under his watch. With that said, I think that a good argument could be made that it would have made more sense for USD to hire a football coach who will potentially be around long enough to build the program. At his age, I highly doubt Glenn is going to coach much longer. He is getting paid quite well by USD standards, so a 1-9 record (soon to be 1-10) can't be sitting well with anybody there.
  20. Looks like USD is having quite a scandal of its own: http://www.arguslead...b|topnews|text|
  21. Today is the first day of the early signing period. I assume Hooker may be signing today, but are any others expected?

    Augustana

One rather interesting name has been thrown around already as the next Augie head coach--Kalen DeBoer. It would be somewhat shocking given the rivalry between Augie and USF, but it may not be all that far-fetched, either.
  24. I agree. I would also dare say that had you told anybody prior to the season that UND's offense would score 33 or more points vs. six of nine division I opponents thus far (even with a fairly minimal contribution from the running game), most would have thought that would mean no worse than a 7-3 record heading into the UNC game, and quite possibly better.

Augie just fired their head coach after three seasons, despite a 22-13 record. Mike Aldrich went 9-2, 6-5 and 5-6 the past three years. Seems a little harsh unless there were other factors at play besides wins and losses.
