I dig Carl! I was a freshman in 1982 and saw (on TV, of course) the Sioux win their 4th NC after losing 12 or 13 games that year, including a disastrous 2-game collapse against Sconny for the WCHA tournament championship (2 game, total goal series back in those days). Someone may have the correct scores, but I believe the Sioux headed into the NCAA tourney that year fresh off of losses of 8-0 and 4-1 (not exactly confidence-boosting goaltending). But they believed in themselves and totally dominated the NCAA tournament, including the title game against The Red Menace. Based on how they come out firing on Fridays, it seems as though this is a team that believes in itself, and anything can happen in a one-game-and-out format. Boy. Sioux fans jammin' each other. Goofy polls about all that's not-hockey about the Sioux, and a Bison fan taking delight in the fact that fellow Americans are losing money....I guess from where I'm sitting, there's nothing wrong with this forum this week that an 8th banner wouldn't fix p.s. Baxter from Virginia, you picked one heckuva week to dive headlong into becoming a Fighting Sioux fan. A sincere welcome from a 22-year fan. Don't let all the noise of this week distract you from Sioux hockey becoming a cool part of your life. Oh, and just so I contribute something to this thread that's on topic (sort of) -- skating ability and weight issues aside, I understand Massen is a very good walleye fisherman

Not to criticize anyone cuz, well, our fighting men and women have made sure we all have a right to express ourselves as we see fit, and with 29 posts I'm pretty much a nobody on this forum, but do you suppose the fellas from places like POI are perusing these threads and having a swell time reading all of the panic and infighting? I know I would love to see this stuff on fan forums of say BC, Michigan, Minnesota, etc., etc. Remember the guy named Hukalo and keep the faith. February isn't March/April and next weekend is another series. Hopefully we all will be the ones reading about the other teams' bitter disapointments when their seasons end at the hands of the Sioux.

Lots o' anger amongst the Sioux faithful, which is good and healthy. I suspect the team is even more bitter about last nite's collapse; but let's keep our perspective and not panic. I have to admit to being a bit disappointed in DB's public undressing of Brandt, but let the team sort that out. I'm also a bit concerned about the Sioux not protecting 3rd period leads like a vicious dog does a bone. But let's not forget the name Hukalo. Remember David Hukalo? He was the guy who scored OT goals for Sconny on consecutive nights a few years back in Madison. The UW is to marching bands what UND is to men's ice hockey. They and Ohio State are considered the premier bands in the land. I lived in Madison for 5 years and it was ALWAYS a pleasure to see their band at work, especially at football games. Here's a cool link if you want to hear the UW band play, "The Bud Song." FWIW, I have conclusive evidence that the Sioux will not lose a game this weekend. How? Because I'm busy and can't attend. I'm serious (sort of) and here's why: I lived in Milwaukee from 1987-1994 and in Madison from 1994-1999. During that time, I saw the Sioux play the Badgers 7 times. The Sioux lost all but one of those games. 1997 FF? My parents traveled 800 miles from Dickinson for their annual visit that weekend so I couldn't go. Do you recall how the Sioux lost only one road game during the entire 1998-99 season? Yep. Madison on 2/27/99 with yours truly in attendance. Only game I saw that year. I've lived in the Twin Cities since 1999. Last year, the Sioux torched everyone at home during the first half of the year. Well, except for the Mankato game that I was at that ended in a 6-6 tie, which is the lone game I saw last year. This year, the Sioux are 17-2-2. I've managed to see three games and have seen 3 of the 4 games that the Sioux didn't win. I was at REA for the 2-1 loss to STC and the 2-2 tie with UAA. I also traveled to St. Cloud for the 4-4 tie. I've been offered tickets for both nights this weekend from Gopher-fan "friends" of mine who have witnessed my curse. Luckily for CB, I'll be detained all weekend at a conference in Eden Prairie .

Bucky wins 4-2. Controversial reversal of a Tech goal w/ about a minute left that would have tied the game at 3, erasing a 3-1 Sconny lead. Wisconsin later scored an EN goal for the final score.

The Devils came out flat and trailed 2-0, so Hale tries to spark the team. He drops the gloves grabs on and finally Asham obliges. Asham throws a good uppercut that connects flush and then Hale lands overhand right. They each throw a few rights, both connecting at least twice. Asham lands the better shots, one very solid. Eventually Asham gets Hale over and he falls to a knee. Hale then gets back up and takes down Asham. Asham came away from the scrap with a bloody jersey, trickling down from a spot near his eye that was opened from a high stick right before the bout. Other Penalties: Hale received an instigator and misconduct.

I sat right behind the Sioux bench and they seem to be a really loose group. Even after the 3rd goal, the guys coming back to the bench were smiling while shaking their heads. I couldn't really hear much, but the timeout seemed to be more about settling Parise down than anything else cuz the coaches were all yelling for him to come over to the bench. They were all pretty juiced to see Canady score. Bochenski talked to Blais a lot during the game, usually right when he came off the ice on a shift change. I didn't really notice anyone else doing that. There's a guy about 55-60 yrs old that's always talking to the Sioux coaches and players. During the Sioux power plays, he constantly yells "PASS!" whenever our guys were moving the puck around the blue line and along the sides. Berry and Hakstol would yell out stuff like "UP" or "GO," and this clown would yell "DOWN" or "BACK." More than once he even had Blaiser chuckling. Doug Woog once commented about this guy (I think he said his name is Wayne) during a televised UM-STC game, saying he loved him during his coaching days. Massen and Schneider seemed a little disconnected from everything. Massen made a couple of nice plays, but as everyone else said, he wasn't consistent. Schneider simply struggled. Fylling's eyes were always wide open, like he was defining concentration. Genoway oozes confidence and you could see that he was really enjoying his time w/ Bochenski. Jones was the leader of the D. Greene is, well, huge. Smaby has some great guys to learn from. It was fun to experience the hush over the drunk Husky fans sitting behind me as the Sioux took over the game and methodically came back. Hopefully they can put together 60 solid mins tonite. If they do, I don't think STC has the horses to keep up.

I guess this is what happens when we have so much time between games and crave relevant things to read. I stumbled across this website and thought I would pass it along: http://www.hockeyfights.com/ Just click the "Player Info/Fight Cards" link and enter anyone's name in the "Search by Keyword" space and it gives an account of that player's NHL fights. I checked out Hale, Commodore, Wilson, etc. Some accounts are better than others and unfortunately it didn't go back as far as Archibald Here's the "Fight Card" on Hrkac's lone fight: Comments: Turgeon threw some punches with his gloves on. Hrkac dropped his right glove and landed a shot that sent Turgeon down for a few minutes. Great KO. Turgeon did not play the rest of the game. I don't mean to berate the Dakota Student writers, but as everyone pointed out a while back, it's part of the game.

Paul Martin was a scratch in last night's game. My vote is for Dave Christian. Great Sioux player and also played on the 1980 Miracle on Ice team. Arguably had the best NHL career of any Sioux forward.

Too few suggestions comin' out of left field, so I'll lob a few in from F7 territory: I've noticed that there's quite a few good conservatives posting on this site, so you may appreciate where I got this first one: 1) "It's Open Line Friday!" (from R.L.'s show) or just OLF. Of course it would have to change to "Open Line Saturday!" the next night, but the cartoon bubble in my head pictures Hennessy screaming the phrase in the 2004 NCAA Championship game against [insert team here]. 2) Or someone much more clever than myself could come up with an actual Sioux language phrase to name the line. For instance, part of the Sioux word for "Eleven" is AKEWAZI. Kind of a mouthful, but I'm sure there's better. Thx Mad Man and Forecheck. A Puppy friend of mine and I saw the 6-6 Mankato game last year and I got him hooked on The Ralph and The Red Pepper. Should be a great series.
